Lion Heart - FUCKING BOP WITH ONE OF THE BEST HOOK. IF THE âTELL ME WHYâ PART DOESNâT STICK TO YOU AFTER FIRST LISTEN THEN YOUâRE LYING TO YOURSELF. SHAME ON YOU KOREA.
You Think - Okay, I can understand why this song might not be for everyone. It surely wasnât a bop for me. BUT TAEYEONâS HIGH NOTES MADE ME WET. SOOHYOâS RAP WAS LIFE. SUNNY FINALLY SINGING IN HER REAL VOICE. THE GIRLS WERE HOT AS FUCK IN THOSE CHOKERS AND METAL THINGS I CAN OVERLOOK EVERYTHING.
The contrast between the two songs really demonstrated the girlsâ versatility. They can really pull off all the concepts thrown at them. And they have proven this time and time again.
One Afternoon - This reminds me a lot of those indie songs that are played in the background of hipster cafes that charge people 10 bucks for a cup of coffee. I am always a sucker for soft, mid tempo songs. Easily my favorite song in the album after Lion Heart. I reckon this will do well if the girls had promoted this instead of You Think. I got a little Standing Egg feels from this song. For the uninitiated, Standing Egg is the best indie Korean band.
Show Girls - *skips* *middle fingers to SM for being a lazy piece of shit*
Fire Alarm - Reminds me of Motorcycle (?) or just their Japanese discography in general. Which speaks for itself already. Outstanding bop.
Talk Talk - Another soft mid-tempo song which is always welcomed.
Green Light - Hate the title. BoA had the same title for her latest album. Can SM please at least come up with another title. Not a big issue but I like to nitpick. Just like Fire Alarm, it reminds me of their Japanese discography. Catchy, easy to listen, basic pop song done well.
Paradise - Basic. Donât hate it, donât love it. Indifferent to it. I donât think it is a terrible song. just not my type of song.
Check - I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG TO DEATH. Sensual without being overbearing. Sexy without trying too hard. Live performances killed me.
Sign - Didnât like the song. Not for me. Was about to skip the song on my first listen until I got to the chorus which was a little more bearable. Chorus was okay, the rest of the song rubbish.
Bump it - Started out with a TTS-style bop. SeoTaeâs 10/10 vocals. Tiffanyâs âhold on I need my girls for thisâ. I went from ballad mood to BOP mood. Way to end off the album. A strong track to end off the album.
Final Verdict. I like every song except for Sign. But really, this album doesnât have any obvious filler track. A very well done album which has a little something to cater for all types of listeners. Versitility check, vocals check, growth check. Growth because we can actually hear the dance line stepping up vocally. Especially Hyoyeon who got proper lines that showcase her actually-very-nice husky vocals. YURI WITH HER CHORUS IN LION HEART. One flaw would be the lack of the signature Soshi ballad. Oh well.
People are say Soshi doesnât have a signature sound? The reason why they donât is because of their versatility. They donât have to stick to basic cutesy concepts all the time. They can do everything and anything and more.
Does the digitals bother me? It does. But as I watched the shows that the girls went on, their SNS updates, their food truck support for the fans, I realized that they are happier than before. Definitely happier than during Mr Mr era. Especially Taeyeon. The girlsâ happiness should be the priority.
