Your muse slams mine against a wall hard.

Digger whirled around on a dime a couple blocks after he heard footsteps behind him, advancing on the slight form behind him without warning. A hand on her throat, he pushed her against the wall, free hand moving to grab the edged boomerang he kept tucked out of sight under his coat. He scowled and sneered, a huge, intimidating presence as he glowered at her, eyes flashing in annoyance in the light of the streetlamps.

“Why are you followin’ me?”

“ i’ve been thinking — about this the entire day… ”

Digger chuckles, low and throaty, as he crowds her space, pulling her in close, hands roving wherever she’ll let him. He knew at the beginning it would only be a matter of time before she relented, it wasn’t like he hadn’t seen the way she’d looked at him when she thought he wasn’t looking. Rules were meant to be broken anyway, they wouldn’t exist otherwise.

“Yeah? Lot of restraint then. Must’ve been hard.”

A beat, a trace of fingertips along contours, a rougher press against them to follow, then:

Digger snorted, a derisive sneer on his lips. Maybe he was being a thickheaded idiot, but he wasn’t looking too close at that right now. No, it felt better to lash out, whether or not it was really the best idea.

“Then you’re more of an idiot than you look, ‘cause I don’t care about you.”

It was a bald-faced lie, of course, the tactic of a cornered animal inclined to lash out at anyone and anything because the line blurs when their back’s to the wall, but the reflex was too deeply ingrained to abandon now. Digger didn’t have friends. Didn’t have people who gave a shit about his well-being. It was him and the rest of the world, broken up by the occasional associate, and anyone who thought otherwise had been gravely misled.

Digger had no idea what hit him. Literally, at least at first. One minute he was having (what he thought) was a perfectly nice chat with his babysitter, albeit probably inappropriate on several levels, the next he was slammed up against the wall and she was in every inch of his space, or at least it seemed like it. …not like he was really complaining, he’d never been opposed to a little rough touch, particularly if it came from a woman (and he’d be lying if it wasn’t more than a little hot, little bitty thing like her), but out of the blue it was more than a little unexpected. Not like he’d ever really thought her the type.

“Whoa. C'mon, easy there, girl.” Hands went up reflexively, an appeasing smile that tried for innocent creeping across his face as he watched her. Tried to gauge her next move, or at the very least what exactly he’d done to set her off.

“Gonna crush the goods if you don’t watch it,” he teased, because he couldn’t resist.

And okay, so maybe his words were slurring together a little, but it wasn’t like he couldn’t handle it. Or himself. He stalked closer, a frown etching itself into his face, hands reflexively clenching into fists at his sides. No, he wasn’t intending on starting a fight here, but who was Chuck to take something away from him?

“It’s afternoon somewhere. You’re not my mum.”

He huffed and scowled, sulking like an overgrown child even after her explanation. It was boring. He hated being cooped up anywhere, hated being told what to do. There were three ‘good’ things about this whole situation, way he saw it. It was a nice pad, there was a pretty girl to look at, and there was alcohol. And alright, so there was light at the end of the tunnel, a chance at freedom again, maybe. But that didn’t mean he wanted to sit here and play house while he waited for everything to sort out.

He followed when she walked away. If she wasn’t going to let him drink he could at least find some way to amuse himself.

“Didn’t read that in my file already? C’mon, sweetheart. If you’re gonna take away my booze, least you can do is give me some other way to pass the time.”

Karen turned back around at his words. She wanted to believe that he didn’t mean what it sounded like but she’d spent a week babysitting him and she was sure it wasn’t as innocent as he made it seem. Biting her lower lip, she held his bottle out, making him come across the room to get it. Her tongue lightly moved across her crimson lower lip still tossing the question around in her head.

There were a few moments that she’d been tempted by him. It was quite a sight the first time he walked across the living room without a shirt on and she thought her jaw was going to drop but that wasn’t why she was there. Her eyebrows raised at him, finally answering him.

“I’m guessing that you don’t mean like a crossword puzzle or a board game when you say that you want me to give you something to do? We’re 100 miles from anything to do and this cabin is your life for as long as it takes so you better get comfy with–” She looked behind him at the liquor cabinet and shook her head. “No one’s going to be here for a bit, so make sure you don’t run out too soon.”

She released the bottle and turned away from him again, moving towards the glass back door towards the pool. She looked over her shoulder before dropping her robe at the door. “You drink that, I’m going to go swim off some of this excess energy.”

Promising. It was a start, anyway; he hadn’t quite been able to guess which way she’d go on it, but a return of the bottle was progress, far as he was concerned. So he stalked towards her to close the distance, reaching for the bottle and watching her every move. His words had been partly to set her off-balance, more to unsettle and ruffle her feathers to get some measure of an upper hand than a real proposition, but he’d be lying if he hadn’t considered it a time or two anyway. She was cute, in a ‘naive but probably into some weird shit’ kind of way, which he could definitely appreciate, and there was something to be said for a girl in business clothes.

Wasn’t like it wouldn’t be a decent diversion either.

So he watched, and he grinned when it became more readily apparent she’d been assuming that was along the lines of what he was after, but then she offered the bottle and that was a bit of a surprise, but probably more of a pacifying one, he figured. Better the devil you know, and all that. He accepted the bottle all the same, shit-eating grin firmly in place with a knowing smirk like he knew where her mind had gone even as he plucked the bottle from reluctant fingers and popped the top off to take a swig.

...and then she dropped her robe, and, well, he could think of a few things more interesting than alcohol more sincerely this time. He followed, bottle in tow, gaze moving over her as he licked his own lips in open appreciation.

“Not like I can’t keep you company if you want.”
