Just a rant: I love listening to Crass. Crass was one of the earliest bands I got into on my own, my dad put me on Norma Jean when I was around middle school, and I liked it but never really paid mind to it because my dad bumped more house music and EDM in the car.

How I got into Crass in the first place is actually kind of a funny story: I was more of a minor threat fan around high school school, and I was going to grindcore shows on and off. I had recently broke up with my first boyfriend at the time, and I still had one of his shirts, and I kept it because I thought it looked really cool. I vividly remember we listened to crass once on his vinyl, so I put them on my Spotify and fell in love with the punchy beat, the arrogant snarl and voices that command attention. I kneeeew i was in LOVE since. I love crass. My two favorite songs are poison in a pretty pill, and where next, Columbus?

honestly I think that the whitebelt sasscore mathgrind revival wave of today is so much better than the wave of the 2010s lol. that wave that had bands like SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Gif From God, Binary, Callous Daoboys, I did love all of those bands, I listened to SYSC's very first demo on the day that it dropped back in 2016, but those bands do all lean so much into the metalcore side of sass, I would enjoy listening to them but I would always be missing the sheer surrealism, eroticism, dissonance, and danceability of iconic past bands like The Blood Brothers, A Trillion Barnacle Lapse, The Red Light Sting

and yet all these tiktok brainrot teens of today reviving the genre have done a better job at it than the pushing-30 CMHWAK nerds of the 2010s who came before them lmao. bands like Carmen Sixteen, Let Them Eat Horses, Sapona, Nsixhundred, Harmonys Demise, Taja, Callmetheboxer, Mybodywasfoundinahollowtree have come the closest so far to the true wacky sound of myspace whitebelt sasscore

it's funny too because the scene of today is fashioncore as fuck lmao, these guys are bringing back the white belts with huge belt buckles, the girl haircuts, the earlobe stretching, the vintage band t-shirts selling for $300 on depop, they def care too much about aesthetic and clout and social media, which should be downfall of the genre, but it isn't, because the original whitebelt sasscore of the myspace era was also super shallow and focused on appearences, to the point that so many bands within that era would write songs about it, it's an inherent part of it. so it's kind of ironic how bringing back the pretentious snobby attitude also brought back the actually good and original music.
