Nickel and Dimed
Primary Source #6
Both of these passages highlight that Barbaraâs success in the low wage workforce can be attributed to her previous life outside of poverty. Her relationship with the dermatologist helped her to get through her skin problems and the reason that she was able to endure all of the back wrenching work while being a maid was because her whole life she was living off of healthy food and above average healthcare that set her up on a good path to be healthy. This can be related to my earlier post where we talked about starting positions. Because she was somewhat affluent in her previous life this set her apart from her coworkers because she had that advantage.
