IN.SEK Design continues their mission of purposeful play, by adding quartz crystal to the same specialty blend concrete, the Excavation Series is born. In addition to the traditional HEX, SQR and TRI boxes, IN.SEK has scaled up creating these dramatic sculptures which make beautiful side tables. Each unique casting in this series explores a different conceptual idea in form or the removal thereof. Through cavernous openings and cracks light is allowed to penetrate these objects and illuminate the Quartz crystal caverns inside. R / 101 explores the idea of grotto and tunnel space, while R / 102 explores the concept of a hollowed cantilever.

For this client’s home located in the heart of Williamsburg we created custom concrete stair treads and landings for three levels of the home. We first created a perfect prototype of the stair tread before making a few rubber molds. Once we had the molds, we used them to cast all 75 stair treads so that they would be identical in shape and size.

Along with designer Shawn Brydges, Ashira Israel and the In.sek Design team created a relaxed, inviting atmosphere for both clients and employees alike to enjoy. Etsy Headquarters commissioned In.sek to design and build several custom pieces of furniture and lighting for the brand new state-of-the-art facility located in Dumbo. We worked closely with the Etsy team to design all of the pieces within the Living Building Challenge.™ A progressive building certification program, advocacy tool and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible today. Using a mix of our signature concrete, fsc certified woods, and reclaimed wood we pushed our limits on creating pieces that were a blend of sculptural elements yet highly functional and practical solutions for their creative work environment.
