Drakken inhaled, mouth open, ready to argue–! Only to deflate entirely with the realization that she was right. Even if someone had been there to help, or if she had managed to get a call in to the police or fire fighters or whoever would have come to aid, he wouldn't have done anything differently. He would have still distracted the cat from the cows and led it away from Vera and the herd to keep them from getting eaten.

Of course, if someone like Sarina or the twins would have been there he wouldn't have had to put his body on the line. That thing would have been taken care of in a matter of seconds!

"Well!" he started again, temper flaring. "You could have at least had the decency to help me back to the hospital! I bled all the way back to town and barely made it there in time!"

This was a lie but that wasn't the point.

Amy's temper doused with a bit of pity.

The bloke was a bit weird, and by far not her favorite colleague, but he did put life and limb on the line for some of his ex's cattle... She prided herself on being brave, but she really wasn't in that moment. Amy became a faceless pap, getting her pics and gunning it. Because for her, in that moment, what she wanted was the story. Dr. Drakken creeping around his ex's place after she came out with dastardly allegations.

A narrative wrote itself in Amy's mind, a twisted and most likely fictional version of events she heard about second hand. Vixey alleged violent outbursts from Drakken, Amy could make sense of that. She saw the irritation in his twitchy eyebrows. Vixey also outed a Magick before. So maybe it was all an anti-Magick smear campaign, but she couldn't take the heat from outing another person. Last time it was a succubus, a dangerous Magick but beloved by the community. Maybe Drakken was something less menacing and he made up for it in personality alone. Amy bit her cheek and made note to plot this out with Gail later.

"You're right. I'm sorry." She merely agreed, popping the red balloon about to burst that was his head.

"I saw what I needed to to prove you weren't there to attack a victim coming out about your behavior. I saw that... that thing and I got scared! Looking back, I wish I would have helped, but I really don't know what I would have done. AND you became like, a hero! So you're welcome, actually!"

It was true. Drakken didn't pay attention to the local news. National and global was different, especially with things like the scientific community, but he felt like he didn't have to read the new paper in order to know what was going on in Swynlake. He could hear it in the school's break room or from the kids as they talked to one another when they were supposed to be doing their work. Forced to hear it from a neighbor as they walked by when he went to fetch the mail, or the twins would tell him during dinner. What did he need the news paper for?

Finally, Gabagool (that was her name, wasn't it? Something was Gab in there) told him what the heck she was talking about. About the incident on Chakraborty's farm, when he had been trying to get Vera and wound up with scratch marks instead.

"Oh," he said. No wonder he hadn't noticed he was being tailed, he had been so angry over seeing Vera being used as a pawn in Chakraborty's game that he hadn't cared about anything that night.

In actuality he was just a very oblivious individual.

"Wait– you were there? And you didn't think to help?" Drakken asked, indignant. "I could have died! The cows could have been mauled!"

Amy couldn't understand not reading the local news, especially when it was about you. She got the feeling that Drakken was the sort of self obsessed bloke that would keep an ear out for his name in the air, but maybe the rock he lived under was bigger than Amy thought.

A defensive heat flared in her cheeks as he raised his voice. "What was I supposed to do?! Throw my body in front of that beast to save a cow?"

Amy could have tried to help, probably. Holley could have too, but they were just two girls with binoculars and a hunch. "I didn't know what that thing was, and you clearly had it handled. Besides, you act like you'd do anything different." She huffed, accusatory.

Drakken stared at her, wondering what else he was supposed to think when she said something like that and offered no other explanation! And she was going to be offended? When she had been the one to violate his privacy?

Saying it was for the newspaper only made it worse! She was going to make a publication about his condition? Without even asking him? Had she dug into his background? Well, she couldn't have been able to track him down through his name since the lab accident had been when he was still going by his birth name. So the story would be pointless if she didn't even know the cause!

He was only thrown off more when she called him brave– because while he would take the compliment for all it was worth, he was more concerned about what she had seen! And published about him!

"What are you talking about?" he asked. "And what people? What are they saying?"

He clearly did not read the paper. Amy's face flatlined, she really thought he would be the type to keep up with the news. Especially if it involved him. Drakken read as a classic narcissist! Ego-maniacal, at least!

"The cows?" She said as if she were stating the obvious. Then she continued with the story, as Drakken seemed over her game. Boo. "We got a tip that you were some wo-manhandler and you were a danger to the town. We did our due diligence and kept an eye on you. When you went to the farm of your accuser, I thought we were going to catch you red handed... but then you saved a herd of cattle from some... I dunno, mountain lion? It was in the Squire!"

Drakken's frown deepened, eyes narrowing at her.

He detested these sorts of games. Unlike a lot of the people who used the same titles as himself (evil genius, criminal mastermind, etc) Drakken didn't care for the game of cat and mouse. He didn't want things to drag on, he didn't want to play back and forth, he didn't want the cryptic messages or the puzzles. If he wanted that he would sit down for a game of chess!

He had no idea what she was referring to. A part of him people hadn't seen?

"Oh," he said, his whole body sagging a little at his realization.

She must have known he was blue.

Drakken blinked then, confusion scrunching up his features once more as he considered the implications of that.

"How! When?" Drakken reached to pull his jacket's opening around himself like he was a mother with her bathrobe answering the door late at night, trying to cover up. "Are you spying on me in my own home?"

"What? Ew, no! I'm not some creep!" Amy also got up in arms, offended he thought her some Peeping Thomasine!

She was not above that at all, but he didn't know that!

"Ugh, no. I did follow you though, once. And it was for the paper, nothing crude." She crossed her arms, still huffy that he thought she was the type to watch him changing or something. As if she would bring up that she'd seen he had a small pecker or some other outrageous thought he had AT WORK. Men, unbelievable. "I just wanted to tell you, I think you're quite brave. Despite what some people have said."

Lady Amelia shouldn’t have had to worry about a thing all her life. Afterall, she was a lady in the great Ciudad de Rosas. Her days should have been spent preening and picking out gowns for balls. Except after her wish, Amelia became aware of many things around her. Half of the stuff she picked up on wasn’t salacious gossip or tidbits she could use to bend her adversaries to her will… it was everything everyone ever thought of her. It also clued her in on the general unhappiness in La Ciudad de Rosas. Others like her, wished for something they thought would change their life for the better only to have them twisted and become a chain to keep them down.

What she gave up, what they all gave up, wasn’t worth it at all. Their trade wasn’t even and it was time Magnifico paid his due. Maybe with her cunning and the handsome advisor Amelia has a chance to make the King pay his debts.

Drakken hated these mind numbing, boring, ridiculous tasks they gave the Board members. Why should it be their job to do such things? Couldn't they just get an intern for this sort of thing? He had half a mind to call the twins, have them replicate themselves, and send the copies down to Town Hall to do his work for him!

He let out an annoyed breath through his nose, mood already in the gutter, when the woman started talking to him. Drakken normally would filter out small talk, but she had something that caught his attention.

"What is that supposed to mean?" he asked, already on the defense. He wasn't equipped for playing things cool, always ready for a fight at the drop of a pin. "I saw what you did?"

She looked him up and down, noting the immediate tensing when previously he had just been slogging through the files same as her. It was unfortunate for him that this intrigued Amy even more. What she had to say wasn't anything nefarious like he seemed to think it was. It begged the question, what did Drakken think she knew?

Board business aside, this triggered the investigative glee in Amy.

An eyebrow quirked, "I just mean that there are parts of you that you don't show to people. Everyone has them."

She was playing coy, hoping something interesting would tumble out of his lips. The best way to interview wasn't to ask the questions you wanted answered directly, it was to poke and prod until they volunteered the information on their own. Maybe Benjamin Drakken would share more than he intended. More than Amy thought she'd get telling him that she admired how he protected some cattle.

There were a surprising amount of menial tasks to get done as a board member.

Today it was sorting through old records to be digitized. A process that started years ago now but was still ongoing with how long the town had been around for... Amy was paired with Dr. Drakken to tag team as much as they could until the day was up. He was so odd. She half expected him to end up on her podcast one day and not as a guest.

Still, she needed to pass the time and stay awake during the monotonous work so she prompted a conversation.

"So... I saw what you did before. Still not exactly sure your motivation, but it does make you pretty interesting. And then running for board? You're a bit of a wild card, aren't you?" Amy spoke idly as she flipped through a file and tossed it into a labelled box, leaning back in her rolling chair.

"I've been to a few shows. Once because I liked the headliner, once when you were the headliner. Casual enjoyer-- I don't think its necessarily important I know your discography in and out. Might be creepy actually if I were a super fan." Mads pointed out. "But I'm familiar-ish. The lead singles, some fan-favorite B-sides, basic highlights. Likes, dislikes from the files your publicist gave me."

The corner of Mads' mouth quirked up.

"Enough to pursue another Masters degree that leads into a Ph.D program." Mads admitted. "And anyway, I'm single right now. The deal is to date a while publicly and then breakup amicably, that's easy enough."

When a friend of his, a member of Amy's PR team, reached out to him he decided to accept meeting her. Like he said. He was single right now and in a position to do the job so why not? Might be interesting.

And he took drama in high school and minored in theater in uni so like! He could totally act, just a little.

"Publicists usually are in my experience." Mads said, dismissing the need for an apology. "I'm a linguist and dialect coach, so I talk to them a lot for one half of my work." A beat. "Right, so. I'm Mads, pleasure to meet you."
