arden wouldn’t lie and say she didn’t miss hollywood sometimes. she had been good at one thing for so long she felt like a fish out of water being in the valley sometimes. it was too small, but she was convincing herself that’s why she liked it. she was picking up new skills along the way but there were times where she missed acting. she missed the red carpets and all the glamour. she just didn’t miss all the drama, all the news outlets up in her business, the paparazzi. she was working at the bar today, unsure of where jemma was or fry. she had just finished serving a man his drink when someone had come waltzing in. she had looked up at the woman and at all of her stuff. “well, that’s an entrance.” she said, walking over to grab the things that have fallen. “it’s fine,” she said with a small smile, suddenly glad that fry wasn’t here to witness the commotion. “you good?”
talk about embarrassing! zola’s cheeks tinged with warmth before she pulled her luggage closer to her to minimize the destruction she could cause. “i’m fine!! how is the chair? ugh, i’ve always been told to make an entrance, but i don’t think that’s what they meant.” she figured now would be the worst time to introduce herself but what was she going to do? run away? that would be even more mortifying than destroying a bar. she stuck her arm out for a handshake. “i’m zola, by the way... technically still new in town. somehow more uncoordinated than ever.”
@amethvsts | Koa’s birthday
On June 1st, Sloane leaves a package at Koa’s home early in the morning. In the neatly wrapped box are two nerf guns and in a small bag is a vibrant flower crown and a small container of tea. Atop the box is a letter.
Koa, Koa, Koa,
Happy birthday, friend! I am so glad I can call you a friend. You are one of the most fun people I know and I hope you enjoy the Nerf Guns, I thought you would appreciate them - this is also an invitation to a Nerf Gun fight, if you are brave enough to challenge me.
Enjoy your special day and I’ll see you around!
Love,
Sloane
Happy birthday, Koa! | @amethvsts
On June 1st, Dakota presents Koa with a box messily wrapped in newspaper. Inside is some decor for Koa’s snail terrarium, a card game, as well as a note on a piece of notebook paper.
Hey Koa,
Happy birthday! Thank you again for being so welcoming to me and letting me rent out one of your rooms. I thought you were a bit much at first, like, uh for me as a person, but I’m really glad I’ve gotten to know you. Your antics and your general attitude make my day a lot better… uh, anyways, yeah, I hope you have a wonderful day.
Your roommate,
Dakota
it had been a whirlwind of a month for zola. she had been called away for a special tour for ana indiana, something about a nostalgia reunion with her and some other stars when they were on the same tv show back in the day (they were children and wore awful clothes, but they were also best friends -- just busy best friends). media sources these days were really banking on nostalgia as a selling factor nowadays. anyway, she was back in stardew valley, a place she can’t exactly call home yet, but that’s where her stuff was stored for the time being. she came crashing into the saloon, having lost control of her luggage and knocking over one of the chairs. “oh, shit... that’s my bad... sorry!”
jvnimo:
Sasha had a discrete eye on the valley’s newest resident from the moment she stepped out her house. Newcomers were few and far between in Stardew Valley, so most people took an obscene interest in all new faces. Sasha, unfortunately, was no exception. When Zola approached her, though, Sasha played it cool and offered her a dazzling Sasha™ smiles. “There’s a path. That way,” she gestured up the way from Pelican Town before her gaze fell back to the telescope the woman carried. “You’re going to carry that all the way up there?”
holy shit, it was sasha fiorini. it took everything in zola not to ask what in the holy hell she was doing here in the same town that she happened to move to. they never outright said that they disliked each other, but there was always some tension between them. zola thought she could take a break from ana indiana’s problems with the wig off, but apparently not. “is that not the path to the lake? oh god, i’m all turned around,” zola sighed, trying to maintain her cover. seeing sasha shook her off her game a little, but she tightened her grasp on the telescope to focus. “yup, i’m gonna carry it all the way up there by myself because i’m just that go--” before she could finish her sentence, zola turned slightly and the telescope slammed into some nearby trash cans. “shit!”
qvietlight:
Having heard the rumours about the UFO sighting herself, Archie is also headed towards the mountains for a spot of investigation. “I find the quickest way to get to the mountains is to walk towards them,” she says drily, hitching her camera bag further up her shoulder as she turns back to face the woman that had addressed her. She points at the telescope, which is scraping painfully against the ground. “Need some help with that?”
“ahh, you got me,” zola responded, pointing her finger at the person in front of her. “but haven’t you ever seen a movie? in a moment of suspense, the main character walks towards their goal which is seemingly close, but as more time goes on, they realize that they’re not any closer to their destination. what if i had done that and found out that i was trapped in some weird phenomenon?” she tapped her temple as if she had just dropped some sort of truth bomb, but in reality, she just didn’t want to feel like such an idiot for not recognizing the obvious like the stranger had pointed out. but... if you really think about it, if ufos are involved, there’s always a slim chance that what she’s saying had some sliver of possibility to it. “but sure. you can be the person who guides the main character through the fog and helps her lift this heavier-than-expected telescope.”
wintcrwinds:
The verbal barrage is… a lot. Fry doesn’t think he’s said that many words in the last six months, let alone in one conversation (or monologue). “It’s… fine?” He says, bemused. The kid’s kind of all over the place, but he doesn’t seem to mean any harm. “And to answer your first question - coincidence. Gus is the chef in our family.”
Scout sniffs at Koa’s fingers for a moment and then, apparently sensing some sort of distress, gently places her chin in his hand. She looks up at him with her liquid brown eyes, tail still swishing lazily in the basket behind her. “There,” Fry comments. “Think she likes you.”
now koa knows what it feels like to be a copper ore in a blacksmith’s area of work because his entire heart melted when the dog snuggled up in his hand. “i think i’m tearing up -- oh wait, am i allergic to dogs?” he choked up, fully ignoring the fact that he was in public and in front of a complete stranger. he plopped down on the ground despite the memory of him barfing in the general vicinity lingering at the back of his head. koa blinked away the tears that he couldn’t control as he tried to cradle the dog. “dogs are really cool. they’re supposed to like... never leave you behind, right?”
dakotaxzimmer:
Dakota shyly nodded at the information. It seemed like there were lots of new people here, which was good in that they wouldn’t stand out like a sore thumb, but also meant there were more people around than they had thought. “O-Oh, then are you interested in trying it out? I-I mean, if you’re, uh, leaving or something, we could always work together and figure out what to do with your character…” they looked at the board again. There wasn’t much up there, aside from someone looking for a job.
“I would disagree…but it’s nothing inappropriate,” Dakota gave a shrug and took a pushpin and posted the page. It felt a bit weird to do so without explicit permission, and they felt themselves fidgeting a bit, but it was just paper. If it needed to be removed it would be done easily.
“i’ve always found that asking for forgiveness rather than permission makes life a little more zesty if you will. i’ve always been a fan of zest,” zola joked, tilting her head over to read that the stranger’s posted on the bulletin board. after perusing through, she gave them a reassuring wave. “if anybody gets offended at this, i will fight them for you. dungeons and dragons sounds super fun. can i be a magic knight? or does it have to be separate?”
she’s always tried to find ways to fit in -- maybe it stemmed from her constant moving into new communities, maybe it stemmed from desperately trying to win the approval of the world so that she may pursue her dream. who knows, this isn’t a psychological evaluation! the thought of this person just accepting her into something as miniscule as a dnd group, it just made her giddy. “if you didn’t believe that i’ve never played before, i think you have to now. oh, can my character ride a wolf? that would be dope.”

adriaali:
Adria had come out when she’d seen someone dragging a telescope outside of her home. She couldn’t help the curiosity and approached the slightly frazzled looking woman. “I actually know where that is because of my morning runs. If you go up those stairs and keep following the trail to the right, and then go to the left past the carpentry shop, over the railroad track, you’ll get there…I can take you up there if you’d like. I realize that’s a lot of information at once.” She then eyed the telescope. “Is Mars or Jupiter visible tonight?”
catching on quickly to new choreography to perform in front of millions of fans? easy peasy. following this person’s directions to get to the mountains? harder than expected. zola’s mouth formed an “o” as she tried to memorize the directions. “wait, you said up the stairs and to the left? man, seeing jupiter and catching aliens redhanded is a lot more work than i had anticipated.” she considered the person’s offer before grinning abashedly. “i would love if you helped me up there, but i could never impose. the least i could do is repay you with something! maybe tickets to an ana indiana concert if you’re interested? i’m got a person.”
jupiterdrcps:
when she got out of the mines, after everything, she had learned about the ufo sighting. it had been just the thing that she needed. there had been sightings in stardew valley before, though they came few and far and further convinced her that she had been right all along. there had been a joy in telling her father that there was another sighting and for a moment it was like he had come back to his old self, grabbing all of his notebooks of previous sightings and telling her she needed to get out there and document. plus, it would have made for a good anecdote in her book, considering her book was about aliens. she was just glad that she didn’t even really need to leave her own backyard. sofia had all of her equipment ready to go, heading up towards the mountains herself, backpack full of stuff, hands full of other things. her communicator that she had used on the road to try and catch any sort of signal or messages that the aliens sent. having heard someone talking to her she had paused her speed walking. “oh. um. i’m about to head up there right now, i can show you.”
the voice of her older brother echoed in her head, “don’t go off into the woods with strangers, you stupid little imp.” zola fully ignored that voice. with a wide and grateful smile, she readjusted the weight of the telescope to her other shoulder. “yes! yes, that would be amazing. for such a small town, it sure gets twisty and turny,” she said as she set to follow the stranger. “i’m zola, by the way. have you ever seen the ufo? i missed it when that weird announcement thing happened, but i’m determined to catch the next sighting.”
silvcrlining:
“Oh, well– I saw this bartender on DewTube who does this cool thing where he, like, flips the glass in the air from behind his back and then catches it in front and the drink is still in the glass. Haven’t worked out all the logistics yet, though.” Another sheepish grin, already reaching for the broom and dustpan she kept at the ready. “Pfft, don’t worry. I mean, like, I’m a natural… but if you know any cool tricks, I wouldn’t mind seeing them.” That’s code for: I’m literally winging this.
“dewtube...” zola echoed, her brows furrowing. did she accidentally step into an alternate world or was she just not in the know? she decided not to ask more questions, as that would unravel a whole web of questions that the omniscient narrator could not answer or address. studying the tiny little glass, zola dove into her memories for a neat trick that would be simple enough to teach. now it was important to keep in mind that zola only watched to learn. she never actually tried herself. “well, here’s a simple one. you put an ice cube in the glass and just chuck it up. it’s like that game, ball in a cup or whatever.” she did so, but the ice cube did not go very high per zola’s fear of making a huge mess.
wintcrwinds:
The boy scurries off to the bathroom and Fry is left alone with Scout, who transfers her baleful gaze to him in the absence of their visitor. “What?” He asks her quietly in Spanish, a rarely seen smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “You are cute.”
The idea that he might be Gus’s secret husband makes Fry snort a laugh, though he supposes it’s an assumption easily made - he is wearing a wedding ring, after all. He absently passes his thumb over the cool metal of it as he clarifies, “His nephew. You can call me Fry.”
Koa’s ministrations aren’t as subtle as he perhaps hopes they are, so Fry interjects on Scout’s behalf. “Let her smell your hand. If she doesn’t want you to pet her, she’ll let you know.”
“fry? is the reason you work here because you were named fry? or is that just a coincidence?” koa questioned, the question marks and threads popping up in his head as he tried to connect the dots. he doubled back though, quickly pursing his lips in shame. “i’m sorry, that’s really rude of me. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with your name, it’s just new to me. i’ve been kind speaking without a filter lately -- i have no idea what’s wrong with me.”
in his embarrassment, koa ducked down to try and reach his hand out for scout to sniff. “i washed my hands with the soap in the bathroom, so they’re spick and span clean!”
sloanepearson:
[ feb 18th, 11:03 am to koa ] no, definitely not your fault - all of us in the town should have done a better job making sure everyone was back [ feb 18th, 11:03 am to koa ] you didn’t deserve to be left down there at all [ feb 18th, 11:04 am to koa ] can i bring you by some food or something? relaxation stuff maybe?
[ feb 18th, 11:26 am to sloane ] well they didn’t oh well lol [ feb 18th, 11:26 am to sloane ] it’s really fine sloane i’m cool [ feb 18th, 11:26 am to sloane ] wait actually if you have any pepper poppers on you, i would gladly take them off your hand [ feb 18th, 11:26 am to sloane ] this is not because i’m super devastated from what happened it is simply because i want a fun spicy snack
olivia baker - season 3 episode 1
zola loved seeing weird things. whenever she was on tour, she’d make sure that they made pit stops at the odd sights that you could google whenever you visited the city. so when she heard whispers of a ufo sighting in stardew valley, zola got ready to catch the sight. she dragged a telescope through town square to get to the mountains for a good view. “oh shit...” she said under her breath. she turned to the nearest person and asked, “how the heck do i get to the mountains from here? i have no signal so google maps is useless.”
