Feel
Emotions are contagious - and that's by design.
I've been playing catch with my cats this morning -- tossing around a string toy they especially love -- and I laughed with they leapt, and I "wow'd" when they caught it mid-air. I started to think about how our emotions are energy, and that energy travels/transfers. We are MEANT to "catch" the emotions of others. And there's a reason. In joy, sorrow, exuberance, pain, and foremost, love, we living beings are meant to share in our experience.
Even if only to share in a laugh with another person at a cafe when mutually spying a Shih Tzu toddling in pink rain boots, or to commiserate with the grocery clerk about the "horrible bout of cold we've been having"; we are not meant to walk through our feelings alone.
EMPATHY is an innate human trait. We have it for the purpose of connecting to one another, to animals, and even to nature. Energy from emotion can be overwhelming. In all ways, emotions are easier to bear when shared, in part, with others. This is why, even when alone, nature may act as a resource. Nature absorbs...shares. Living things care for one another. They are supposed to do so. How are we to truly understand one another if we don't somehow relate to each other's emotions?
"Getting feelings" for, or over, any other living thing is a soul moment. It's how we form and build a web of understanding on this planet. And even though we each do find that, at times, we feel the need to be "alone," the cosmos intends for these stretches of time to be healing, but isolated. These alone times provide us with the solace we need to extend ourselves, once again, to others. Building communities is how we better understand ourselves, and our world. Energy is never meant to be contained. It's meant to flow - and we are to flow with it.
