the 25th anniversary les mis concert will always be my favorite because the decision to throw nick jonas up there with ramin karimloo and lea salonga was so funny the man didn't stand a chance
Raoul's forearms to me are what the Phantom's hands are also to me.

RAMIN KARIMLOO & HADLEY FRASER Les Misérables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary
the big three questions of media analysis: what the author wanted to say, what they actually said, and what they didnât know they were saying
for the last one i donât just mean oh the author inadvertently wrote in gay subtext or whatever iâm talking about media as a cultural artifact which can reveal a ton about societal norms, biases, ideals, etc. itâs all about positionality and an unexamined positionality is often the most revealing of all
â Ovid, Metamorphoses
I actually love Anthony Bridgertonâs âI will humble myself before youâ speech because itâs not only the perfect culmination of Anthonyâs character arc throughout season 2 but also of Kateâs.
Throughout the season, we see Kate as someone who believes that she has to earn the love in her relationships. She believes that if scrapes and begs and borrows to keep her family afloat, then she can earn her place with Mary and Edwina. If she pleads with the Sheffields even at the cost of her own pride to make sure Mary and Edwina are taken care of, then she can continue to earn her familyâs love. Kate is so used to sacrificing everything she has and then going even beyond that, to earn her place in her personal relationships.
And then here comes Anthony with his âYou do not have to accept it or embrace it or even allow itâ.
His love is freely given, without even the expectation of acknowledgment, right from the moment he confesses it to Kate. So right from the very beginning, Kate knows, and not just in an abstract sense but from his actual words, that she does not need to earn his love, itâs hers because of who she is, not because of what she can do for him.
This man that she did not concede an inch to, where sheâs used to hacking away at herself in an attempt to earn love, simply loves her. He loves her even if she has nothing to give, not even an acknowledgment of his confession.
Then when he proposes all he asks of her is her presence in his life. Thatâs all he expects from her.
âI will humble myself before youâ was the lesson Anthonyâs proud ass needed to learn, but it was also the lesson Kate needed. That sheâs worthy of receiving and not just to give and keep giving and give some more.
And I absolutely love that this is the beginning of her marriage. A relationship that starts with her knowing in the most absolute sense that she does not have to earn her place in it.
baby iâve got half finished wips you couldnât even imagine

Writing dionysus as this guy with bleached hair who owns one pair of socks, emotionally unloads at a food truck guy after a night of clubbing, and gets immediately parasocial with a rock star after hearing 1 song is god-tier characterization
oh to one day live in a world that doesn't hinge on the whims of the united states of fucking america.
since this post is going viral again, can y'all spread around this version, which has links to help you donate to people who are currently suffering the consequences of said whims

My take on the trademarked âBridgerton horny food stareâ and why it matters to the themes of the show, and to depictions of desire as a whole:
As we know, itâs a reoccurring motif at this point for our Bridgerton romantic lead to get completely hot and bothered by our love interest eating food. This occurs in S1 and reoccurs multiple times in S3. S2 was more concerned with scent and the role that plays into desire, which is related to this as well.
This reoccurring moment represents the whole conceit of the show, which is that a polite/repressed society cannot quell our more animalistic/passionate drives inherent to human nature.
When a love interest is eating food in front of a Bridgerton, and it makes them go all glassy eyed and paralyzed with desire, we assume itâs because this action is drawing attention to their mouth, but I think it goes a bit deeper than that.
In these moments the polite and âcomposedâ is being interrupted with the vulnerability of a bodily action. Itâs hard to eat âpolitelyâ, we have to engage our mouths in a very non composed way, exposing tongues, teeth, less polite parts of ourselves. And in public!! Scandalous!! And of course everything feels elevated when you are obsessing over someone, especially mundane actions that are very tied to the Body and itâs Needs.
I always thought the horny eating scenes were a little silly, or at least looked that way, as none of the love interests look particularly sexy while licking a spoon or chewing on cake, but itâs less about the appearance of the action and far more about the association with and reminder of OTHER bodily functions and needs.
Honestly, kind of like sex, eating feels better than it looks, and the Bridgertonâs are making that mental leap to sexual activities from something more innocent. Bridgerton is good at putting a focus on smaller moments that indicate a larger sale desire, a touch, a look, seduction can sometimes be the art of paying close attention.
Is lots of romance media, it can be assumed that desire is just two hot people looking at each other and liking what they see, boom chemistry! but sexual desire is not always âprettyâ itâs often irrational, messy, and confusing. Colin eating the same cake as Penelope after lustily watching her eat it is nowhere near normal behavior, but to him in a state of desire, it feels like a way to be closer to her, to feel what she feels.
Another example is in s2, I was honestly a bit uncomfy at the brashness with which Anthony, on multiple occasions, smelled Kate and was obviously getting pleasure from her scent, but that is a very real part of sexual attraction!! Iâve experienced it and itâs strange, itâs weird!! And exciting!! Same goes for the eating, while not exactly âgood lookingâ, it is evocative and makes one feel. Emotion over appearance.
All this to say thank you Bridgerton for bringing back depictions of sexual desire so real that they verge on being uncomfortable.
Anyways letâs all eat some cake!!
this will not be a bridgerton blog but for the foreseeable future i will not be thinking about anything other than bridgerton

 Winter Love â H.D

the funeral (a grotesque display of two queensâ grief, forced on them against their will) being interjected by images of aegon beating blood into a bloody ruin says something about how womenâs grief is exploited and paraded around as a virtue while male grief is only allowed to exist in conjunction with violence.
female sorrow is expected to be public, dignified, and even noble, it serves as a symbol of quiet strength and resilience. otto uses it as a tool to gain sympathy for their cause. notice how he forced alicent and helaena into it, while he allowed aegon not to participate. wouldnât the king being at the funeral send a powerful message? yes, it would. but otto looks at aegon with contempt, the other councilmen and alicent do not know what to do with his tears. the realm cannot be allowed to see the king grieve. not like this.
male grief is denied its own space and validity unless it manifests in aggressive or destructive acts. aegon realizes this to some degree tooâ he lashes out publicly by killing the rat catchers. he shows his grief by being violent, by spilling blood.
the toxicity of it all is very effectively shown at the end when aegon is crying by himself. did he retreat there to be alone and finally let it all out? his mother is either letting him have that moment alone or sheâs deeply uncomfortable with it and chooses to leave. no matter what motivated alicent in acting the way she didâ the moment still reveals how male vulnerability is something people fear. it shows that even the most human expressions of pain are not acceptable for some.
