I think the werewolf likes you... but what does that include?
This starter pack includes: WickHive posts, WickChat messages, a short drabble, a sneak peek at your date, and a playlist!
When you arrived at the front gates of Obscuary, part of you wondered if maybe this wasn’t a good idea.
It wasn’t out of fear, like some of the other general students in your year may have assumed. Most of them wouldn’t even go near Obscuary because of the rumors that lingered on all of the students, but you never listened to any of Darkwick’s rumors, anyway. No, the reason was much more grounded.
What if I’m only bothering him? You thought. He asked me to come here, but... I could just be getting in the way.
Suddenly, a noise on the left side of the woods drew your attention, and your heart jumped. You looked over, eyes wide, looking for what caused the noise... only to hear a familiar voice come from behind you instead. “Hey. Are you okay?”
Upon hearing Lyca’s voice, you jumped, turning around to meet his bright eyes. “Lyca! You surprised me,” you let out a sigh of relief. “I thought I heard something coming from the other direction... does Obscuary have animals that roam around the forest?”
“Sometimes we get bats,” Lyca shrugged. “You asked me to escort you, right? Why were you surprised?”
“I didn’t hear you coming...” you looked toward where the sound came from again. Was it just the sound of a bat? The footsteps sounded heavier than that...
“Oh. Did I scare you?” Lyca asked. There was a sudden hint of vulnerability in his voice, one that you hadn’t prepared for.
“No. Not at all,” you were quick to reassure him. “You don’t scare me. These woods on the other hand? They’re... a little spooky. The few times I’ve come here before, I’m usually on edge just walking through them.”
Lyca crossed his arms, contemplating for a moment before reaching out and offering his hand, a light pink brush on his cheeks. “If you’re scared, take my hand. I was going to lead you anyway, but... this is supposed to be more comforting, right?”
The offer was unexpected, but it wasn’t unwelcome in the slightest. You reached forward, fingers intertwining with his. Lyca’s hand was warm, strong - an instant source of comfort. Though, based on the light blush crawling onto Lyca’s face, you realized that even this small amount of contact was likely unfamiliar to him. “Are you sure this is okay?”
“It’s fine!” Lyca asserted quickly. “Let’s go.”
Lyca’s pace started out fast until he realized he was almost dragging you behind him. It forced him to slow down, match your pace, and allowed you to sense more discomfort coming from him. “Did I... come at a bad time?” you asked, anxiety getting the best of you. You needed to hear the reassurance from him. “You seem like you’re in a rush, and if you forgot we had plans today, that’s okay! We can reschedule, or-”
“That’s not it,” Lyca stopped walking for a moment. “It’s - I want you to be here if you want to be here. I like spending time around you. But I didn’t think it was a good idea to go to the library. I lose track of time around you, and I didn’t want it to get too late.”
Didn’t want it to get too late...? You thought, trying to make sense of Lyca’s concern. Darkwick doesn’t have a curfew, so why is that a concern...?
Lyca looked at you, noticed your obviously confused expression, and grumbled. “It’s a full moon tonight, so it’s better for everyone if I stay indoors. That’s what the blond gigolo and motheaten casanova told me.”
Your eyes widened. “Oh,” you spoke softly. “Is it really okay for me to be here?”
Lyca seemed to interpret those words in the worst possible way, his hand dropping from yours as his eyebrows went up. “I’m not - you’re not in danger here. With me.”
Oh god. “No, that’s not what I meant -” you quickly started to correct him. “I didn’t think that I was in danger with you. I just didn’t want to be in the way. If there’s going to be any worries about me being here, I’d rather save you the trouble.”
“It’s not trouble for you to be here. I invited you here because I wanted you here,” Lyca crossed his arms, his eyes averting for a moment. “It means a lot to me that you’re willing to. The other students ignore me a lot. They don’t treat me like one of them. I’m always just going to be a werewolf in their eyes. Nothing else.”
You didn’t have to ask what he meant by that - you’d seen that effect with your own eyes. When you started becoming friends with him, it seemed like the other students looked at you like there was something wrong with you. They isolated you as well at times. After all, why would a human become friends with one of Obscuary’s inhumans? They were all murderers in their eyes.
You didn’t believe it. The more you got to know Lyca, the more improbable it seemed that he’d ever do anything to intentionally hurt someone.
Seeing Lyca’s hurt expression, you couldn’t help but reach out to him, taking his hand in yours. There was an innate desire to give comfort back to the man who’d given you comfort from the moment you told him you were scared. “I’ve never been scared of you, Lyca. I never have been,” you reassured him with a soft smile. “And I’ll be here for as long as you want me to be.”
Lyca’s wide eyes and the blush that crawled onto his face told you that, perhaps for the first time, he really believed those words.
