In the beginning the world was void, darkness consumed all that there was and no life knew warmth nor solace. Then the Great Spirit moved across the void through the darkness, shattering it with light, fire, and life. The Great Spirit made the world and the moon and all of Zaghos; the Tree of Worlds, with 10 shards forged in the hearts of the twin stars so that this realm would hold all manner of beings. Things of spirit, things of fire, of ice, and things of flesh could all exist within this divine creation. For it is known that the darkness had been set for too long, for the cycle it was to come again. Yet as fast as the Great One had arrived then was the Spirit gone. Again it moved into the stars to bring life elsewhere within the never ending void. For the cycle would go on, all across forever.

The Homeland
On our way to Mirls she broke the silence that was growing for some time. She asked if I thought of her as a ‘deep-forest’ eldryn. My reply of a friendly but odd look told her no.
“You don’t even know what that means, do you?” she asked. I shook my head and she faintly smiled. “Where are you from?”
“Oh I'm from a port town in the upper continent.” I said. Azany smiled wider before her eyes darkened.
“Then you are lucky. I am of the Nanailem. It means old eastern oak. We are a very old clan of eldryn. Were regarded as superstitious. To be fair though, we are.”
She told me of her homeland. Her clan, Nanailem, settled on the eastern Shadynnar coast and were superstitious for a valid reason. The dangers of living there were many. The coast was made of sheer white cliffs and choppy surf. She lived high in the canopy of the massive trees where one wrong footstep would mean a fall of 100 meters or more. Hunting was never done in small groups. The forest floor was covered in a thick layer of brambles. Below that was where the prey was. Along with the Dre'kt. The Dre'kt were demons of the darkness below. Her ancestors had to carve rings of sacred runes into the trunks of the trees in which they lived to ward them away. I now see why the other eldryn would think them mad.

“We met when we arrived at the same crossroads. She was the first person i have seen for some time and was tall and fair in every sense of the word. I mistakenly interrupted a ritual of sorts she was performing. With her bow she was drawing a symbol in the soil of the road. One of light, she explained. One that will prevent any summoning of demons that can only be called in such a place. I stood back and let her finish before i asked her where the nearest township would be. I asked more for conversation, for i had a map, than for any directions. She informed me of the town of Mirls about 20 Kilometers to the northwest. To my delight she was going the same route and suggested that she accompany me. I will have to inquire more about the symbol and ritual, but that can wait for the morning.”

“Today i felt what it was like to be prey. I was a field mouse to this four-meter long beast. The tongue was as large as my arm and the eyes glowed a slimy green. It was relatively clumsy, or i would not have escaped. I guess i found what came out of those eggs.....” Explorer Jadetta Godwin, The Godwin Journals.

“In the darkest ages of mortals there was a secret that echoed through the stars. Scholars and wise men looked to the night sky and believed they knew the answer. They could not have been more wrong.” -Eldijar the Scribe of Vazuun Denaahl
