After giving that grim retelling of that organization and their sheer power, it is very clear to Simon he made the right choice in not saying the whole morbid, shocking tale at once - even that bit of information had sent a pall of serious silence across the background once more. How bad, then, would the final parts of that 'adventure' be to hear? He almost didn't want to speak of them at all, but if he was going to tell the truth about the story, he should tell the whole thing.
It would be a grave disservice to the maiden that ended up saving him not once, but twice, if her sacrifice for them was unspoken of, after all. Even if he knew that Angela would not take that part of the story too well, and she had every right not to.
Letting the silence hang in the air so that he can try and recompose himself - and fail miserably a bit on that, he was never good at 'hiding' his inner thoughts from his sister, of all people - Simon can't deny he's at least a little thankful for things going quiet again. There's still so much sadness and horror of the tale to speak of. That everyone had to go through. People wondered why he was so serious all the time, but of course he could never say why - so to finally tell some of the tale to someone he trusted felt like a great weight finally being lifted.
Finally, the tense silence is broken as he adjusts his red-rimmed glasses- only to very nearly drop them at Angela's words. Wait, but - from the sounds of it - despite her admitting his loss angered and upset her, of course, just as being forced to leave family aside upset himself, she was - willing to forgive? Not only that, but she was incredibly grateful, which in all honesty he did not see coming at all. "I only let common-sense kindness guide my actions, my dearest sister - isn't anyone capable of that? Despite it probably not looking that way in my case...but it is a great relief to know my reasons for being gone for so long are forgiven. I-It really does mean a lot that I can reconcile after so many awful years."
Despite his formal words, he actually shows a bit of that underlying 'kind nature' here, moving closer to hug Angela again - but a more happy hug and not one that entails both of them crying this time, hopefully.
Sadly, the happy moment can't last long. There's still the end of that 'adventure' to tell.
"Though - I must admit - I'm afraid my debt wasn't quite repaid in the way I had hoped it would be...Hershel, Luke, Emmy and I saved her from the ice successfully - but after some adventuring, the butler that was helping me hide my identity revealed himself to be a horrid spy.
You can probably guess who he was a spy for easily enough. That masked trouble maker. I should have realized that he might try that sooner, ugh."
He and Randall probably had disliking Descole in common now, too, almost amusedly.
"He hijacked my ship, despite my best efforts to fight him off. He was far too strong.  In the chaos that ensued... that organization, Targent - followed the hubbub going on and kidnapped the girl. Colour me surprised, but Descole seemed just as alarmed as any of us to see that happen...apparently, the reason why he'd done such unreasonable things was because he was trying to stop Targent from awakening the Azran Army. No matter what he had to do to do so. I really could not approve of the way he went about it, of course, but according to him, he also did it for another reason.
I'm afraid that out of respect to Hershel, I cannot speak of the other fact Descole told us. Perhaps Hershel will tell, a long time later."
Almost at the end of the sordid tale, now...just a bit more, and then he would finally have told the truth of most the tale. Of course, given Descole was....that certain relation to Hershel, and Simon respected him - he couldn't find the bravery to speak of about what they'd uncovered there.
