What went well Looking over the module, I am definitely seeing my progression of the course and the modules. After a 1 to 1 with a guest lecture (Block9) I decided on a topic which I wouldn’t be use to, to get the full effect of starting a brief and and the pressure it puts on. Therefore It motivated me to go for a Jazz festival, however the festival I had in mind was a hybrid of up and coming artists and tributes to famous stars from the past, such as Frank Sinatra, Rat Pack, Duke Eilington, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday…Another thing that went better than expected was the development of the festival name due to the circumstances. Without knowing anything about jazz all I could do was research into things related to jazz and extend from there - this lucky lead me to jazz slang that existed, which I then used to form my festival name ‘Barrelhouse’. Throughout the whole brief research was a big part of the brief due to the lack of understanding, however I was able to take full advantage from that and over come the knowledge problem… When it comes to over all designs, in my opinion they have been linked together well, the vectors all have the same look or feel, however the main focus of my positivity is the ‘coming soon poster’ which have a vintage look which relates to that of jazz as well as the audience that will be attending…
What didn’t go so well After looking back on the brief, I notice the distinct lack of variation of styles of designs. From near the start of the brief I decided to go with a vector style however because of that I focus mainly on that and didn’t sway otherwise, this then leaves me with a small amount of development or experimentation. Also due to me only using the vector illustration style, it was hard to link them all into certain areas of the brief, for example the wristbands, the gif, the promotional video… However this all links back into what I said perviously, due to the lack of understanding of my brief topic (jazz). Due to the lack of knowledge I spend over the amount of time I should have, researching to certain topics related to jazz that I could understand and link together with my work, however this lead me to drift out of my time management skills, leaving me venerable to the time that I had left…And from then on it all went down hill from there, due to the time I wasn’t able to start a Gif or animation to promote my festival in the way I wanted. However I was able to post posters onto social media for people to see.
What could be improved on The main improvement that I could of worked on was the lack of time at the end which I had to spend of my development due to the time spent on research. Another thing is bring more styles into the festival design rather than sticking to vector illustrations, this would have benefited me highly with the overall look and feel. Another thing that I could of done better was the research topics, even though I did a high level of research I could of researched into the history of jazz more, and were jazz full started and came from before New Orleans… I learned a lot from this modules, how long and difficult it is to form a full festival outline or branding guidelines which has to be made into an up and running operation / festival…
