Gabriel walks around the mansion; a green shawl is wrapped around their shoulders, and they hold a parasol to shield from the rain. Peering silently up into the mansion, they look curiously in on the scene. @June: "Excuse me, but can I ask what's going on here...?"

Seeing a Lopunny on the verge of being soaked outside the mansion, even with the help of a trusty parasol, raises June’s eyelids briefly. She walks over to the door, pushing it further open a little.

…Well, the door’s open. I’m going to have to ask about that, but I think it means you can come in.

A Pokemon living here – a Wartortle, married to the mansion’s owner – disappeared mysteriously. On a snowy night not long ago, when I’m told everyone in the mansion has an alibi, they vanished indefinitely.

I’ve been led to believe that the mansion’s owner is incapable of carrying out a murder, but she’s in no state for questioning anyway.

In other words, it’s a mystery where I need to find my first lead.

Prologue, Part I

Tonight, the sound of falling water creates a rumble that dwarfs the cricketing, rustling and howling of the rest of the nature. In the foyer of a hidden mansion, a grandfather clock ticks where two sloping stairs end and the second floor balcony begins.

A group of three Pokemon, two talking and one hovering, stand near a Dragonite statue in its centre. The warm heat of an oven drifts in from some distant room, marred slightly by the smell of burnt bread it brings along.

But none of these things can totally drown out the sound of the rain, nor the sound of the great waterfall outside.

A shiny Espurr shakes herself off with vigour defying how tired she appears.

Is it always like this?

In response, the Fennekin near her turns away and yawns.

It’s winter, I don’t know what to tell you. Now you know why I didn’t want to meet in town.

Although silent until now, the Jirachi near the two of them uncovers his mouth, and speaks to the Espurr.

…I believe that now would be a good time to introduce ourselves to each other.
