slash 2022 | day 06 🖤🖤🖤 sometimes one piece of art touches upon several layers of truth, thus becoming something transcendantally true. i think BLAZE is that kind of art. it touched me deeply, made me think and shed tears and empathise. and even though it discusses heavy matters, it is accessible without resorting to superficiality. highest possible recommendation! 🐉😨👁️🗣️ on the other hand: SPEAK NO EVIL. obvious movie is obvious. no interesting character arcs. no interesting storytelling ideas. did not like it at all. 👨‍👩‍👦👅👨‍👩‍👧 MEGALOMANIAC is hypnotic. it is a magic spell. a sinister spell of psychosis and misogyny. a malevolent spell of generational guilt. a violent spell of demons real and imagined. i couldn't even say if it was a good or bad movie... but it had me transfixed each and every minute. 🏚️☠️⛓️👿👿👿 https://www.instagram.com/p/CjEbiSuqI41oap2sS1Kg9nxnlNU2NAvFtz5kLU0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

slash 2022 | day 05 🖤🖤🖤 i appreciate a movie that does not try to be unecessarily clever about what it wants. GOOD MADAM is clear about it straight out of the gate, creating a skillful allegory on imperialist histories, racism and the meaning of collectives. nothing else there, unfortunately, however it feels as if this film did not want to be anything else. and that is enough. 🧽🩸♾️ TRIANGLE OF SADNESS! what a gem! if it were a joke it would start with "a capitalist russian and a marxist american meet on a million dollar yacht..." and the punchline would have something to do with 'lord of the flies'. great cast, moving seamlessly between scatological humour, satire and slapstick. subtle and smart when it needs to be, bold and gross when that works better. fantastic! highest recommendation! slash 2022 | day 04 🖤🖤🖤 funny in a not stupid way and dark when appropriate, YEAR OF THE SHARK was a good film, easily adressing permanent crisis mode and climate change and some other of today's woes. only gripe: trying to stay middle of the road too much. 🛥️🦈🏖️🩸 let me get this out of the way first: i did enjoy SISSY. but it will not leave a lasting impression. a film thinking it is smart when it isn't, playing at psychological complexities but muddling them. and then packing its seemingly core messaging into a 4th wall breaking monologue neatly tucked between the lines "please don't hate me!" and "it's because of people like you the rest of us feel like shit!" coming from an unreliable source. subtle this inversion was not. however: grab some popcorn, enjoy the romp and the laughs. 📱💖😵💀💀💀💀💀 on the other hand a movie that very well knows what it is and isn't and firmly plants both feet in its strengths: MOLOCH. folk horror, solid through and through. nothing new here but totally worth your time if you like rural ghost stories. recommended! 🐂🪒👻 https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci_RbLHKqzGcSi-t3v2Zwdi_F9wnvQIArJ5XoQ0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

slash 2022 | day 03 🖤🖤🖤 miike-sensei, i love you. but it does shine through when you don't care as much. and i dare say you didn't care about THE MOLE SONG: FINAL as much as its prequels. i'm not mad, only wish the movie had been way more mad. 👮🦋🦁🛳️🤪 i know very little about societal pressures in current day mexico and even less about postpartum depression. but i do know about feeling 'other' and fitting in [or not] and how hard it can be to decide which life to live for oneself. slash 2022 | day 02 🖤🖤🖤 beautifully shot psycho-thriller WATCHER opened the festivities today. i firmly believe that you don't need to invent new stories to tell if you can tell the old ones in your own way. and this film proves my point. great atmosphere, capturing the sense of isolation and paranoia subtly, great cast. recommended! 🏢👁️🔪 peaches christ superbly led into a sing-along, dance-along, midnight movie [even though it wasn't midnight] shout- and joke-along night with THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, complete with a little bag filled with gimmicks and instructions. had a blast! slash 2022 | day 01 🖤🖤🖤 starting us off with a home invasion meets lifestyle clash meets moral parable kind of film: BARBARIANS. way too on the nose and predictable for my personal tastes but solidly crafted. 🦊😵 yes, that is indeed dimitri vegas on the film poster. and he is not half bad as an actor. and H4Z4RD is actually a great over-the-top, darkly humorous and bit absurdist piece of cinema [with a camera that never leaves the car, except for the final shot]. recommended! 🚗💊🥊 PIGGY [ot CERDITA] strong out of the gate with the promise of a fresh take on revenge flicks for everyone who was bullied. maintaining that promise until about the half way point... and then losing it. and i can't really say why. not a bad movie at all but it had ignited the hope of being something fantastic. unfortunate. 👙🤬🔪 and sending us off to bed: THE PROFANE EXHIBIT in its assumedly definitive version. first off: don't believe the hype - no boundaries are crossed with this one. at least none that had not been crossed dozens of times before. but if you like raw anthology movies where the storytelling skills of the participants are laid bare, well, then there are two, maybe three very nice morsels in here for you. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci30l3hq81tW3vsLbKKBvhtY1aI7s9VmQvqNmk0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
