“Perfect.” She said and grabbed two bottles before heading into the living room and handing him one. “Thanks. We’ve tried hard to make it homey.” She explained; talking about her and her roommate. She opened the butterbeer and took a sip before sitting on the couch. “Used the Burrow as inspiration.” She smiled and looked up at him. “Though, no one can compare to Gran.”

“Makes sense. Your gran’s home is honestly the nicest.” Teddy compliments as he takes a sip of his own butterbeer. “My Gran really is trying her best, I think she’s not used to having anyone else but her around but I’m really glad that she’s delved a bit more into the homey feel.” he laughs a bit. Usually he would probably live on his own by now, but he really wants to stay with Andromeda and take care of her - it was the least he could do after everything she did for him.

cainan nodded along, finding a bit of reason in his jumped conclusions–– should he forget the obvious in the room. victoire. it wasn’t that he’d forgotten, so much as it hadn’t sat in the forefront. an event lost to the whirl and twirl of his own everyday. “well, fuck. blacked out bit longer than i guessed, didn’n i?” he asked with a short laugh. “sorted ‘cause i wasn’t gonna let you out of it.” and, like the good friend he was, cainan sorted them each a tall shot. in reality it was more a whiskey neat but those were just details. details he’d ignore as cainan lifted the drink in cheers. “this just step one’a many, mate. cheers.”

teddy nods his head, and laughs though. “i’d imagine working here means living the best blacked out life,” he chuckles once more, downing most of the drink in a large gulp. he wasn’t sure why he felt the need to succumb to drinking his night away. he was doing just fine in retrospect, but social things never really worked well for teddy. “thanks, mate.” he finally comments. “what kind of messes have you been getting into? don’t leave a bloke hanging.”

Dominique honestly hated when his hand left hers. Godric, she was pathetic, wasn’t she? She was nervous that he was going to turn down coming inside as they got to her building and she rummaged through her bag for her key. A smile filled her face again as he agreed. “Great.” She said softly before opening the door and leading them up the stairs before getting to her door and unlocking that one. She turned on the light as they went in, thankful her roommate wasn’t around, and placed her stuff down before kicking off her shoes. She flicked her wand at the fireplace to light it and walked into the little kitchen. “Bottles okay?” She asked as she opened up the fridge.

Teddy wasn’t trying to cross lines or boundaries, he wasn’t trying to make anyone uncomfortable. He was just trying and he has been trying for years. For a man who was such a confident boy in school, he was certainly feeling anything but at the current moment. He was feeling anxious, he was feeling wrong. But it wasn’t entirely wrong to hang out with his friend, right? Two adults simply having a nice drink after a long day at work didn’t seem so preposterous. “Yeah, bottles are cool.” he replies, kicking off his own shoes and his placing his coat on the arm of the couch before sitting himself down on it. “Your place is nice.”

cainan flopped his head to the side, squinting. yea, potentially he could blame the slowness on the swig or three of whiskey he’d snuck earlier… but he found his mind trying connect the dots. dots that apparently weren’t related. “hold off. so you’re tellin’ me that you and that whole lineup of potter-whatever ain’t related?” he stood up straighter, taller. a man with more information that four seconds ago. “yea, me and moxie–– we good on our own. might want to find someone else for pet-sittin’. anyways, that’s worst case and we ain’t letting you go there. so what you say, ‘nother round?”

“harry’s my godfather but i’m not actually related to any of ‘em.” teddy explains, tapping his finger to the glass. “i mean, shit i’d hope not since i dated vic for years.” he laughs finally, at least he was able to joke about all of that now. though still a sore spot he refused to dwell too much on the past. when he mentions another round, teddy glances for a moment. “ah, ya know what, lay it on me. i’ve got nothing too important going on tomorrow that a few drinks will get in the way of.” he laughs.

“Good.” She said and took a deep breath. What was she doing? Why was she being like this? Because you have a crush, duh. She sighed and bit her lip as they continued walking down the cobbled street towards her place. Her head was a mess and she felt like she was just going more and more mad. “Um, you want to have tea at mine? Or butterbeer?” She asked. Maybe firewhiskey would be the best for her nerves, but she didn’t want strong alcohol to be a factor in this. Not with him. Not now.

Her question threw him off a little, he wasn’t anticipating staying with her longer but there was honestly no harm in it. “A butterbeer would be brilliant.” he smiles as his hands shove in his pocket upon releasing hers. He had to remind himself that this was Victoire’s little sister. Anything beyond that was just unacceptable and he wouldn’t allow himself to cross over an unacceptable line. Plus Bill would absolutely kill him. “I can hang out for a little bit longer.”

She nodded and looked down at their hands before back up at the street before them. “Yeah. We can.” She agreed and worked to try calming herself, and her feelings, down. Her heart was just going wild as they walked like this and all she wanted to do now was admit how she felt about him. But she couldn’t ruin anything. She valued their friendship. She couldn’t do ruin it for anything. “Yeah. We’re close, right?” She asked to make sure he felt like they were like she did.

The conversation was getting a little serious, he wasn’t really sure what to make of it. “Yeah, I think we’re pretty close.” he comments, glancing down at his feet as they continued their voyage to more than likely her place. He wasn’t sure really where this conversation was going, or where anything was going.

“trainin’ sounds like shite. can’t say i know ‘course but mind goes ‘ta hours of step-by-step instructions and––” cainan ended his sentence there, rolling his eyes instead. authority never worked on him. a career in it sounded like a sentence. “fucking hope. can’t have ‘ya dying off in an office.” his head shook from side to side. no friend of his could go out that route. boring. wrong. “well tuna ‘ta start. plate’a it. then just trapped ‘em off.” he squinted his eyes, making the connection of weasley and lupin but not fully, certainly leaping a hurdle or three. “think ‘ya cousin might’a even gotta one.”

“ my cousin? “ he questions, confused as to who he means. “ i guess scorpius is my cousin but only second. “ he taps his fingers to the table as he tilts his head to the side. most of his family was deceased as far as he was concerned anyway. “hopefully whoever it is takes good care of the cat.”

How red were her cheeks now? She was sure she resembled a pygmy puff at this point. She was going to say something just as he got up and offered to walk her home. Her building was just down the street. She liked living in Diagon Alley. She enjoyed looking over the Alley as she woke up or even before going to bed. She took his hand and stood up before bit her lip. “I don’t, actually. I’m off tomorrow.” She told him and stood there. “Besides, it wouldn’t be bad to be tired the next day after spending time with someone you’re close to.” She chose her words wisely, but it felt like she said so much with them anyways. 

“Oh? Cool. We can spend some more time together tonight.” he smiles then, keeping her hand in his though not even really thinking about letting it go as they continued walking. It was a nice night out at least, that was a relief. He’d hate for the night to be so dismal and dark when they were spending time together. Her words made the man arch his eyebrow though, and he cleared his throat for a moment turning to give her a look. “Close to, huh?” he teases her. Sure, he considered them very close. Maybe too close. Teddy didn’t really understand, things were weird since him and Vic broke up.

She nodded. “I know.” She followed to the bench and sat down, biting her lip and playing with her hands. “You can’t control a blush.” She told him and couldn’t bring it in her to look back up at him. She was usually better at controlling herself, but there was something about tonight was different. She laughed a bit and she shook her head. “That’s good to hear I guess.”

“You can control a blush, some people just choose not to, love.” Teddy states with a smile, leaning forward to tap her nose with the tip of his finger. “C’mon, I’ll walk you home?” he questions standing up and offering his hand to help her as well. They weren’t sitting long but he was feeling oddly anxious about tonight. Not in a bad way, but just more so in neutral way. “I’m sure you’ve got a busy work day tomorrow, yeah? I’d hate for you to be tired because of me.”

“I’m don’t doubt she’d say no.” She said. She hadn’t thought about asking. Part of her was nervous to ask for some reason she was quite sure why. Maybe because she did, in fact, try to steal the portrait during her last days at the school. She blushed even more now that he saw it and she tried hiding it more. “Only because you know me well. And it’s not dark enough in this stupid alley.” She cursed and huffed a little bit. “Can’t I blush?”

“Considering how much your family loves you, I don’t really doubt it.” Teddy smiles a bit as he nods his head over to one of the benches on the side so they could actually stop walking and have a seat. They were basically walking aimlessly at this point anyway. “You could absolutely blush, but I’m just a little shocked it’s happening over me.” he chuckles - almost awkwardly. It’s hard to remember that this was Victoire’s sister when they spent time together, but he tried his best to most of the time. “I’m not complaining.”

cainan shook his head before settling back against the counter behind him, arms crossed over his chest. “nah,” he started, a silent sort of laughter emanating from his crooked smile. “men like me need a bit’a trouble. without it? that’s when i go mad.” it was why he’d never imagined himself attached to any part of the ministry. so lawful. so bound to morals and shite like that. “ah, c’mon. got ‘ta have a story to tell already. me? i got ol’ iggy there.” cainan hitched his thumb over his shoulder, gesturing towards one of his regulars, one that looked pretty standard on sight, almost grandma-esque. “keeps me on my toes. last week she tried letting loose ‘bout seven cats.”

“i’m only training so i don’t get to do any of the real fun stuff,” teddy trains off, swirling the glass of firewhiskey around for a moment before downing a good chunk of the glass. sometimes he wondered if an auror was really something he wanted to be, but honestly there was nothing else he could really truly think of doing. “i’m sure i’ll have a shit ton at some point though once i start goin’ on cases myself.” he rubs his hands together before his fingers brush some of his hair back. “oh bloody hell, how’d you manage to stop that catastrophe?”

A nod came from her and she looked at him. “I’m sure you’re right. There’s enough scrapbooks at Grans to fill a library.” She laughed softly. “Maybe I’ll ask for one.” She shrugged and was taken back by him pulling her in for a hug and kissed her head. Her heart was just racing like mad and she was trying to control it. A blush filled her cheeks and she looked down to hide it and the smile on her face. “No I’m not.” She said softly. “You make it easy.” She teased back and finally looked back up at him.

“You should, I’m sure she’ll be happy to give it to ya.” Teddy says with a shrug of his shoulder. He had a few pictures of Tonks and Remus around that he liked to keep, but nothing beat the portraits in Hogwarts. They were everything he ever could’ve expected them to be. “Dom, are you blushing?” he questions his eyebrow arching as he stops once more. “You’re terrible at hiding it that’s for damn sure.”

cainan lowered the draught down, context clues telling him that this order wasn’t off-the-menu. “can’t be sayin’ anything. give me that and i’ll go ‘head and pour up some fancy hundred galleon vintage. since it’s ‘ya… firewhiskey. rocks. the standard.” perhaps it should have been poised as a question but cainan had been given the reigns, an opportunity he also took to turn around and stow away his stash in a lower cupboard. out of sight. “what good’s life without a bit’a trouble?” he laughed, turning back to teddy and sliding his ‘order’ in his direction. “hope you’re causing a bit of it. auor life’s got’ta be offerin’ something good.”

“how’d ya know that was my favorite?” teddy teases as he nods a thanks to cainan when the drink is slid in front of him. he takes a swig of it, and shrugs his shoulders. “hopefully not too much trouble - it never did hurt no one but if you go a little mad it’s going to be a hard one to bounce back from.” a part of him hated how the career path, how he decided to be a bit tamer. he wondered if this was how his mom felt when she decided to be an auror. “the world is certainly never boring being one, i’ll tell ya that much.” he pauses after another sip. “what else have ya been up to?”

The beating of her heart started going faster and faster as he stopped and touched her hair. She watched him closely before looking at her hair and seeing it blue. A smile crossed her face again and she touched her hair as well. “It’s blue.” She said with a little shock and she looked at him. “Teddy…” She didn’t know what to say. It made her happier than she ever could’ve admitted for him to do this. It was hard to focus back to the conversation at hand. “I’m sure. I just…” She shrugged. “I don’t know. I’d like to see Uncle Fred more now.” She sighed and followed him as they walked. She listened and focused on his words before reaching out and touching his arm. “Hey, you make them proud. You do. You’ve always been amazing. There’s no way you could never make them proud.” She paused for a moment. “I’m proud of you.”

Seeing her reaction was enough to let him know that it was a good choice to do that. If she really hated it she could always change it back to her normal hair, but he thought it was something nice to do. He was always fond of Dominque, so if he could do something to make her happy, he certainly would. “Did you ever see if you could get a picture of him?” he questions. “I’m sure your grandmum has one, or George. Probably even your dad.” he adds thoughtfully. When she mentions that she’s proud of him, his arm loops around her shoulder and he tugs her in for a gentle one arm hug with a kiss to the top of her head. “You’re too nice, Dom.” he teases.

She smiled as she thought back on his blue hair. “I loved your blue hair. I wanted to dye mine to match, but Mum wouldn’t let me.” She admitted to him. Her eyes drifted down to the street as he talked about trying to steal two portraits and she took a breath. “They should let the families have them, you know? We would benefit from them more in our homes than being at Hogwarts.” She bit her lip before looking back up at him. “Enlighten me, Teds.”

“Mmm, hold on.” Teddy states thoughtfully as he turns to a stop, facing Dominique now. He carefully takes a strand of her hair and wraps it around his finger before grabbing his wand and muttering a soft spell. His eyes twinkled a little as he watches the strand turn to the same shade of blue that his hair once was - and sometimes could still be. When he was feeling like it. The positive of being metamorphmagus. “I think mum and dad would be sad to leave Hogwarts though. It makes Dad happy to be able to see the students and keep an eye on Harry within the walls.” When she tells him to enlighten her, he chuckles a bit and turns away starting to walk once more as her hair is released from his fingers.

“I just started feeling responsible for things, for people and what not. I wanted to make mum and dad proud, make Gran proud, Harry - you know. I wasn’t the best but I made sure to do a damn good job as much as I still wanted to cause havoc.”

She laughed and nodded. “I know. Which is ridiculous. You’re probably the best guy I know who’s not like fully family, you know?” She gave him a look and took a breath. “Oh, please. There’s no way you could be a bad influence on me. You’re not the one who tried stealing a portrait from Hogwarts.”

“I was a rebel with blue hair.” Teddy laughs thinking back fondly onto his time at Hogwarts. It was certainly a fun time, it was certainly the best thing that ever could’ve happened to him. That’s part of the reason why he really couldn’t bear to say goodbye and would try to go there to study with Harry as often as possible. “I’ll do you one better, I tried to steal two.” he holds up two fingers before laughing. “You have no idea the kind of trouble I was during school. Then I became a prefect and things changed.”
