Update!

Question I received today:
Are there any rules of magic I should know before using magic?
I think, for me, there are some very practical rules. Like:
1. My intuition > an exact spell someone posts
Witchcraft is like art in that way. If you do fanart, do it on your style...you don’t copy the *exact* art style. I mean, you *could* copy it exactly but it’s totally your choice and unnecessary.
2. “Natural” doesn’t mean “safe”
There are so many things in nature we either shouldn’t eat/drink/breathe, can interfere with medication, or can cause allergic reactions in some people. Some stuff is totally safe for people but deadly for our cats, dogs, etc. So before you use any herbs, check online for toxicity, animal safety (if you have pets), and “contraindications” (this means “doesn’t mix well with other things, like some medication”)
3. You needn’t buy anything
Can you buy stuff? Sure! But you absolutely can just make/find your own stuff. In fact, it’s better since you can develop a connection...and it’s safer for the environment since you don’t create more CO2 from shipping transportation.
Buying gorgeous art pieces is fine, but not necessary to practice witchcraft. Witchcraft had strong, strong roots in DIY. It’s all about knowing self, knowing others, knowing nature.
4. Explore, combine, try
Like anything else, you won’t be immediately perfect at it, and for stuff that just doesn’t feel right it’s okay to adjust or stop and try another thing.
5. Effective witchcraft is often just understanding psychology, sociology, and herbs
This may be where I differ from other witches, so know this is my understanding and the understanding of others like me, but isn’t something all witches believe.
If I’m having a hard day, for example, I don’t try to cast a spell to create good things for me; instead, I cast a self-spell to rearrange my thinking and reduce my stress. To banish people, I typically use words/phrasing I know will stick with them and make them scared of me (essentially); I don’t reach out to deities asking for them to do some paranormal stuff.
Magick isn’t like in the movies; it’s typically super practical. To those who don’t understand, when they witness it then it looks like magick...just like if you took your smartphone to the year 1720, they’d think the phone was magick.
6. Use your intuition
I am of the opinion that intuition is a sense/skill like any other senses or skills, and the more we engage it, the stronger it becomes. This is why so many things you find online as witchy advice say things like “Do what feels right to you.”
Welcome to the bottom
These are the first few personal posts I made back in the summer of 2020 when I took my first serious steps into witch craft. Their dumb and cringy but I like keeping them up for personal documentation. I will be posting all person stuff under "Personal Witchy Journal" from now on
First Witch’s Bottle
So I’ve been researching witch’s bottle and it seems that there is a lot of variety and types however, there a couple of consistencies:
- Piece of the person - Sharp Objects - Herbs - Seal with wax (mostly black but I’ve also seen red)
So Imma make a custom witch’s bottle for my house. I think that the more personalized the bottle, probably the better. It’s meant to protect YOU and YOUR family from harm so it makes sense that you should tailor it to what you want. Here’s what I’m doing!~ PLEASE DON’T COPY ME UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING!!! I’m new to this and this isn’t meant to be a guide, it’s simply sharing my journey. I encourage you to do your own research and find someone more experience if you want a guide. If you’re an experienced witch who likes what I’m doing then :v I trust you lmao
Items: - Hair - Pins - Black Pepper (Banishing/Protection) - Cinnamon (Protection, Love, Strength Psychic Ability, and Catalyst) - Salt (Cleansing, Protection, and Banishment) - Thyme (Protection/Honoring the Dead) - Red Candle (Strength) (The herbs I choose where picked because they are close to my heart and also what I have available!)
I lit a sage stick and my red candly along with 4 tea lights and talked to my ancestors. I asked them to protect me and the family then got to work. I put in the pins, then the pepper, salt, pepper again, a taglock of my hair, thyme and cinnamon. I sealed it with red wax and kissed the top bc I’m extra lol. I’m hiding it away and I hope it lasts :) This was also a good way for me to set intentions for starting/sticking with witchcraft. A little witch bottle on the new moon.
Me getting into most any hobby: Okay take this slow an easy. You don’t need anything fancy nor do you need a lot of supplies :)
Me getting into witchcraft: I can buy 5 different types of candles for 5 bucks? I guess I’m getting 5 candles. Also try and stop my from using inscenes. They were my everything once upon a time and they will be my everything once again.
Hi welcome to my first altar. This is technically my second bc it’s my second attempt at witchcraft but this is the first time with more understanding and seriousness. We about to clense this bitch uvu<3
