“I don’t feel good,” she gagged. “What happened last night?”
“I have no idea, but since you don’t remember anything, I really want to know. Wild night without me, Hen?”
‘’What?’’ Erica looked between the persons eyebrows to avoid looking directly at their eyes. ‘’I-I don’t understand’’ She added nervously.
“There’s nothing for you to understand,” Avery said, looking the other girl up and down. “I was just reciting my lines to myself.”
It’s fine, it was a weird question to ask. Huh, that’s the nicest thing anyone has told me all week.
Does that mean we’re even?
“You’re bumming me out. A lot, actually.”
“I’m not here to please you, so I don’t care.”
Gwen opened the lipstick and found the tub nearly completely used, “Oh my god then you totally owe me a new one, Aves!”
“Come on, Gwen. We both know mom and dad have enough money to buy you a million new lipsticks.”
Well, it feels good to be back. I missed the heat and the beds on this side of the country.
Where have you been?
“Seriously? Which part?”
“All of it.”
No, it’s okay, I understand that you’re feeling defensive right now. Just don’t let anything this coward bitch says get to you, baby. They’re probably jealous because they can’t be as amzing as you are. Also, I’m here for anything that you need. We can go out or order pizza and go watch movies in my room, whatever you want.
It might be coming from Rouge, but it’s true. No one knows if I will end up like her. I’m not.. really in the mood for pizza right now, but I’ll be sure to take you up on that offer later, Jules. Thanks again.
Gwen’s heart broke at her sister’s words and at the tears in her eyes. She grabbed a tissue and ran to her sister’s side, “Aves, please don’t cry, it’s okay. No one thinks any differently of you, you’re still the badass bitch you’ve always been. And you’ve still got me, no matter what, you can always count on me.”
“You don’t know that, Gwen. People have so much more reason to judge me now. I know I’m not exactly the most popular person around here, but at least people didn’t know what I came from. If that even makes any sense. I just... Don’t want anyone to judge me. Not for who my mother is, because I’m nothing like her when it comes to that.”
Gwen chuckled at her sister’s lack of tact. “Come on, remember when we used to share a bathroom and a bedroom. You loved those days, of course we also spent a collective total of like five minutes in the bathroom back then.” She look at her sister’s make-up, “Wait, Avery that is my lipstick!” She reached for it and yanked it from her sister’s hand, “You’re not the only one in hell.” She giggled.
“Gwen, we were in elementary school. Of course I loved sharing a room with you back then,” she said, smiling at her sister. “I must admit, though, it was kind of a relief when we decided to get our own rooms. I don’t know if I could have survived much longer with the lack of privacy,” she joked. Avery jumped at Gwen’s sudden movement, her eyes going back and fourth between her now empty hand and the lipstick in Gwen’s hand. “I could have sworn that one was mine. I’ve been using it for months!”
“If I’m not enjoying what I’m doing then I’m doing something wrong. I think life is very hard, and I’ve never had anything come super easy to me no matter what people may think. You know we only have one life and it is very precious. There’s a lot that we can do and a lot that we should do. But if you’re good and you’re kind to other people and you work hard and you’re actually doing something with your life, I think that’s so fulfilling and you should just be happy and enjoy that. But I don’t know, I’m still learning. I’m 22 that’s crazy for me to know the meaning of life.”
“If it’s not your moneym why are you so cavalier about spending it? I’m amazed there are still people looking for an easy hand out and nothing more. Vapid.”
“I have no idea what that means.”
“Sometimes,” Hailee starts, her voice soft. “Sometimes life gets rough. It leaves us feeling miserable.” She catches the other girl’s gaze for a moment, shaking her head. “I don’t know who you are, and I’m sure I haven’t heard all about it, whatever it is. I mean this in the most gentle, kind way, but you are not the center of this world. Whatever has you down, it’s only temporary.” She offers the girl a small smile. “And in the meantime, there’s always ice cream.”
“Wait, are you saying you’re one of the few people at this hotel who doesn’t read Rouge? Or do you just not know who I am?” she questioned, eyes wide in surprise. “And I don’t eat ice cream. It’s bad for my figure.”
“You know, you could walk around me.”
“You’re making this harder than it has to be.”
Aves, you know better than anyone that you can be whoever you want to be.
I’m not so sure about that. It might be genetic.
