“In our village there was once an honorable, but poor man, who wanted a home of his own. He wanted it so badly, he began to steal from others. One day he stole from an old man who lived by the river. He didn’t know that this man was an apeth. A night witch. And so the thief could not know that when he built his home, the apeth, too, would live there. So, before long, the walls would whisper the spells of the apeth. From the shadows the dead would come. The apeth would not stop until he had consumed the man entirely… An apeth has arisen from the ocean. It has followed us here.”

“Every week, I go to a club. I act like I’m too drunk to stand. And every week, a ‘nice guy’ comes over to see if I’m okay.”

‘Studies in Broadcast Colour’ by The Island Continent is an exploration into the way colour is rendered and translated through the red, green and blue channels of obsolete Cathode Ray Tube or CRT television sets. These were taken using modern digital SLR photography of a static colour broadcast via a 1988 Phillips Natural 14″ CRT Tube Television.

“Rather than water being important in itself, water flows from top to bottom. I think that’s the tragic and sad element in this film. Water always flows from the rich to the poor, it never flows the other way.” –Bong Joon-ho
