So a little while ago I was asked if I would post instructions on how I make my stuffers from a baby nappy. I’m sorry it’s taken so long but here they are, at last🙈 these might not be the best instructions but I have tried. If you have any questions then feel free to ask! I’ve also put a couple of photos of me wearing a nappy with a stuffer so you can see how lovely and thick it goes😊
1. Firstly you needs to collect your supplies, a baby nappy and some scissors (those scissors were probably a liiiiittle bit big but they were the only ones I could find).
2. You’ll need the baby nappy to be opened out as flat as it will go. The elastics around the edge will stop it going properly flat…
3. So we chop them off!!! When you’re cutting the elastics make sure you cut far enough from the padded area that you leave a seal around the edge (not a aminal seal, a closed bit you can’t escape from kind of seal). The stuff inside the padded bit that soaks everything up isn’t good for you so you needs to make sure it’s not going to come out. When you’re cutting the elastics off you’ll also remove the tapes from both the front and back.
4. You’ll see how when one side is done that one will lay nice and flat, good job you!!! Now you just got one more side to cut off😊
5. That’s great!! Both sides are cut off and you now have a nice rectangle that lays flat, you can get rid of the elastic bits you chopped off, unless you have some other super idea of what to do with them…
6. It may look finished, but there’s a problem. The back of your stuffer is still the outside of a baby nappy, which is of course made to not let any liquid through (not quite right for a stuffer). You probably got a good guess what that means we need to do🙊
7. You guessed it!! We gots to make holes in the cover bit. You needs to be super careful at this bit because you only want the holes to go through the outer waterproof layer, not through the bit that goes next to your skin. I use scissors to cut teeny little holes but I bet there’s lots of other great ways (if you finds a super duper amazing one then please let me know!!). You want the holes to be evenly spread across the whole stuffer so that any liquids can be absorbed and then once the stuffer is full they can pass through to the nappy you have on over.
8. That’s it, your stuffer is now ready to use. You can see how I’ve made quite a few of the little cuts, I tend to just do them until I’m bored🙊all you need to do now is lay your stuffer along the padded bit of your nappy before you tape it on. I just put mine in the middle but you might prefer it nearer the front or the back. There’s no reason too why you couldn’t put more than one stuffer in a single nappy…
So there they are, my instructions for making your own stuffers. I really do hope they make sense and that they will be useful to at least one person!! I love how nice and thick a nappy goes when there’s a stuffer in, and this is much cheaper than buying stuffers or doubling up on expensive nappies (for reference, these nappies I use as stuffers are £1.40 for 20, making each stuffer only 7pence!!!!)
