Kayleigh Bush was crowned Miss North Florida 2025, a preliminary title within the Miss America system. Her title was rescinded after she refused to sign a delegate contract defining “female” to include someone born male who had completed sex-reassignment surgery. Bush said the language violated her Christian convictions and her belief that biological sex cannot be changed.

Her attorneys asked the Miss Florida Scholarship Program and Miss America Organization to restore her title and permit an amended contract, but the organizations declined. As a result, Bush was unable to compete for the Miss Florida title. To clarify the viral headline, she was stripped of the Miss North Florida title—not the national Miss America crown.

Bush was later honored with the 2025 Young Christian Woman of Distinction award and crowned “Miss She Leads America” at the Museum of the Bible. Her recognition was also entered into the Congressional Record, turning the crown she lost into a national testimony about standing firm in faith when compromise comes with a reward.
