"When it’s time to share your images, there are many photo sharing sites out there. A unique one is Beamr, which not only shares photos but transforms them into custom digital magazines, complete with covers. Ashley Manz from Beamr says their differentiator is image quality: “You might not realize you’re losing quality when you share photos via Facebook and email. With Beamr, you’re sharing them at their highest level of quality—as much as 8 megapixels, depending on the iOS device you use.”"
Our CTO Dror Gill was asked to write a guest blog post on Shelly Palmer's blog about Beamr Video. You should go read it now to get his take on how the technology that powers our app is now also being used for our other products.
"You may think, ‘Ah but what about quality? Mobile phones don’t have the quality of image that a dedicated camera has.’ Well, there is an increasing amount of photographers who use mobile phones for street photography. I traveled to Derby, UK to talk to Misho Baranovic who shoots the streets primarily with iPhones (see video at the bottom). The results can be pretty stunning when you know how to use the tools at your disposal correctly. Misho recommended ProCamera for street photography as you can easily set exposure and focus and see the shutter speed and ISO."
"To most, the idea of spending $80 to learn how to take pretty pictures on a phone sounds crazy. But for an increasingly growing network of enthusiasts, learning iPhoneography - the art of taking photos from a cell phone - is more than just an expensive hobby. It's the future."
"The iPhone has both amazing camera hardware and software. However, the only issue with Camera.app is the fact that most of the features remain out of sight due to its minimal user interface. Once these features are uncovered, you can unlock the full potential of your iPhone by activating HDR photos, an alignment grid, exposure auto-focus and auto-exposure lock, panoramic photos and even remote shutter."
"Nigel Barker knows how to make you look good. And, as one of the world’s top fashion photographers, he also knows how to help you make yourself look good...So “Nightline” picked his creative brain to find out what the man who shoots the world’s most beautiful supermodels, artists and movie stars does to create amazing portraits – and what the rest of us are doing wrong in our Instagram selfies."
Beamr's two most recent products were discussed in industry giant Broadcasting & Cable!
"Beamr has launched its JPEGmini photo optimization technology, which is capable of reducing image file sizes for image-intensive Web pages by up to five times while retaining their full resolution and quality. The product is now available on Amazon Web Services Marketplace. Recently the company also unveiled Beamr Video, which is designed to reduce bitrates of standard H.264 video streams by up to 75% and is capable of supporting resolutions up to 4K or Ultra HD. "
"JPEGmini photo optimization technology, capable of reducing image file sizes by up to 5x while retaining their full resolution and quality, is now available on the Amazon Web Services Marketplace. TheJPEGmini Photo Server from Beamr allows AWS customers, ranging from small businesses to the world's largest enterprise organizations, to reduce the load time of image-intensive web pages, improving monetization and user experience, while cutting down on storage and bandwidth costs."

"But I’m also a technocrat; so I can't help but want to experiment with the Apps available on the iPhone. Here are some of my favorites:...

"The future of mobile means sharing your memories more quickly, and at a higher quality. Right now sharing your pictures on Facebook and Instagram greatly reduces the quality of the images. That’s where companies like Beamr are finding a niche. Beamr recently launched an iPhone app that allows users to share high resolution pictures more easily, without reducing the quality of the image. The company says the app uses technology called JPEGmini to deliver pictures at original quality three times faster than any other app, saving you time, data costs and battery life. Beamr Ceo, Dror Gill says, 'Every media file going over the network is optimized, we have found a way to make transfer of media more efficient.'"
