A haiku about love and friendship in a time of self isolation
shoutout to all the shows canceled because of the 2008 writers strike, too good too pure for this world
I took a photo. Look at it. It is pretty.
This is the last day you can register to vote. So go do it you fucker, but remember this message. Voting is not an ideological act, it is a pragmatic one! People who abstain from voting to make a political or social point are living a life of privilege. They have the privilege of knowing that whomever wins their life will not be dramatically affected. If you're one of those people then pull your head out of your arse and get some fucking perspective. Voting is not a way of making an ideological stand. You stand by your ideologies through the life you lead, the things you say, hell, by what you post on Facebook. It's not through your vote. A vote has real world consequences. A vote means life or death for many people. You vote in a way which has greatest practical impact, that saves most lives, which drags your country closer to that ideal, even if only by the smallest amount. It is ok to vote for someone you don't completely agree with. It's ok to choose the better of two evils. It's ok to cast a vote that compromise some core values if it's better than the alternative. This is your chance to make a difference, to change the world. This is not the time to appease your conscience, or to make your self feel superior or self-important. I don't care if you want to go around telling people you spoiled your ballot because you don't want to be a part of a corrupt and rigged system. Good for you. You say whatever helps you sleep at night and perpetuates that liberal anarchist image you got going. But when you step into that voting booth you remember all the people who are going to be affected by this vote. The elderly, the disenfranchised, the students, the youth, the sick. Your vote matters. Don't be selfish and throw that away for the sake of your own self-image.

CROATIA! that was it. That's what Eurovision is all about. That's what I've been waiting for.
I haven't used tumblr or twitter since last Eurovision. Somehow it always drags me back. This is gonna go on for a while.
Find my twitter for increasingly drunken live blogging.
seriously, fuck the false dichotomy between Science and The Arts. as if capital-S Science isn’t an art that requires creativity, perseverance, patience, and skilled observation. as if The Arts don’t require rigor, discipline, practice, and attention to detail. as if both aren’t cultural structures that stand on foundations of sexist, racist, capitalist hierarchy. as if they both can’t be used for purposes of enrichment and revolution. i am so fucking over this idea of presenting science and art as opposites, when they have so much more in common than people think.
UM!!!!!!! UM!!!! this is a beautiful post!!!! and I feel it with every part of my soul!
As a Scientist and science teacher I fully endorse this message and press this notion on my kids every fucking day.

In one week I will no longer be a teacher. I'm quitting that shit. I'm also an emotional mess because of this.
