Ben and Darius being there for each other with a bond that not even they understand.
Late nights on Isla Nublar watching the stars, or dinosaurs where they could talk about all their knowledge. Ben and Darius getting into silly arguments about dinos, but it always ends in them laughing and heading back to their treehouse with their arms around each other’s shoulders.
Darius taking trips to the island to see Ben and Mae, excited to see them (Ben) and get to know what new stuff they’ve gotten up to with the dinos. Ben and Darius end up sharing a bed every time because they’ve never really been able to grow out of the habit of needing someone else there to sleep. Holding each other tight but never really giving it a second thought.
While Ben’s in college they alternate who will drive to the other. They never mind, the drive is always worth it. They’re always together, knowing their time is short. Sometimes they go on big adventures around towns, other times they may laze around all day with movies. Days ending with small talk and intertwined limbs in bed, sometimes pressing against each other so tight in an attempt to be closer, lips locking in desperation.
Trying to video call everyday, usually when Darius finishes work at the DPW because Ben’s usually done with his classes for the day by then. He excitedly talks about the dinosaurs he’s seen and misses the way Ben looks at him, like he’s the only person in the world that matters. Ben not knowing that Darius always has this warm feeling all over whenever they talk.
Ben still trying to stay in contact with Darius after…everything with Brooklynn. He shows up to the cabin a couple times, never really expecting it to go anywhere. Darius wouldn’t admit it but the company, especially his, was a nice change from the isolation. Having more time than the others to get used to this new Ben growth spurt (even though he never will) and the funny feeling he has over this beautiful guy in front of him. Ben unable to tear his eyes away from Darius because he somehow gets more gorgeous every time they’re apart.
The two of them feeling closer than ever when they spend hours together in Ben’s (admittedly gross) van. It was as if they never drifted apart. While the looming threat of being hunted hangs over them, they don’t let it stop them from making the most of the time they have together.
A part of Darius’ heart dying along with Ben after he’s hit with the thagomiser. Their hearts having being intertwined for so many years that losing one of them would destroy the other. The cold weight of Ben in his arms, him holding on for that tiny bit of life he has left because they’re both scared and he can’t leave like this. He cannot leave Darius like this even though he can feel himself slipping.
Spending more time together once again when Ben stays with Darius to recover and heal after everything. They fall into a natural rhythm, develop a much needed routine quickly and enjoy what everyday has to offer. Darius helps Ben with any physical stuff without question. Ben is more than willing to help Darius talk more about his feelings about anything and everything. They look at photos of Smoothie and Bumpy together and talk about everything they can do to help the other dinosaurs. They have each other’s company and make the cabin that felt cold and lonely mere months ago feel like home.
But no matter what, there’s never really any thought into what they actually are. They know they love each other, and that their bond goes beyond a label. They know it’s different to what they have with their other camp fam members. They’ve just always fallen into a natural rhythm with one another and that would never change.
