I only have one thing to say after all this time being gone (and I’m definitely not back, because this fandom has turned into crazytown) . . .

please for the love of god, don’t be an embarrassment to the people you are fans of.

what does this mean?

DON’T tweet at or contact anyone’s management or PR rep or anyone who is involved with complaints, nasty comments, insults. DON’T make up rude nicknames for people and then tweet them. DON’T steal domain names and make up insulting press releases and then harass other celebrities.

BE AN ADULT. ACT LIKE AN ADULT. BE RESPECTFUL.

if you’re unhappy and angry, then take a fucking break! (from someone who knows, it’s incredible the things you can accomplish with all the time you spent on tumblr--I wrote FIVE books last year). sticking around only to whine and complain and find fault with everything doesn’t make you any happier (yep, I can second this one too)

live a full, happy, fulfilling life. and yes, that means quitting the fandom if you don’t find any joy in it (and let me tell you, from the posts I’ve been sent over the last 8 or so months, that means like 99.9% of you).

can i just mention how i absolutely hate when fans say 'we are not entitled to a thank you from the boys' i guess? but if that's the case then they are not entitled to our unconditional support. i am not feeling this aloof rockstar 'holier than thou' image harry has at the moment. i know that's not the real him but at some point i have to draw a line in the sand for myself. i want to know if my hard work and support matters and isn't taken for granted, you know?

I received a lot of messages yesterday and I want everyone to know I appreciate their thoughts -- well, most of their thoughts. What I see is a very real frustration with how this is being handled. I don't know what Harry's aims are for this release but I know we ALL want to support it, even if we don't feel we actually can. I hope his team has a good ear to the fandom and changes tactics. That said, a lot of what I think may change over the course of the next few weeks when we (hopefully) hear more from Harry.

Wait, so now Harry's "fans" are actively discouraging people from supporting him. Excellent strategy for success.

Apparently we are only allowed to blindly, slavishly support him. No personal feelings allowed whatsoever. Or else we shouldn't support him. Ok I'll take my 30 year old with disposable income demographic somewhere else.

Does the fact that Harry is doing it this way while louis situation is what it is, make you reconsider their relationship? cause i feel like i'm the only one who thinks it's more than weird that Harry would sign with columbia or any sont label for the matter when his boyfriend is in the biggest iron closet of all time partially because of them and that no things are indicating things will get better for him...

No I still think Larry is 100000% real. The realest. Harry would never go anywhere louis wouldn’t follow and vice versa.

The thing I most want to say is that I am grateful I was able to have this conversation with everyone today and how mature and reasonable it was. It helped to talk about it and to see that I wasn't alone in what I was feeling. I do hope that there is a shift with the upcoming promo, because I want to support harry and this album.

I really agree with that last post about harry drawing a line in the sand. However the extent they are doing it combined with the way the marketing strategy is revealing itself comes off as elitist. His team is walking a very fine line and there is a lot more grey area to still have the artist speak & somewhat interact with fans vs what 1D was put through. I'm curious as to how the rest of his marketing campaign goes and if that changes this aloof superstar image that I feel he's going with.

I am waiting to see how the rest of this is handled. I haven't liked it so far but I'm hoping it improves and they work to dismiss the elitist tinge from this whole endeavor - and to be clear I do not believe Harry himself is elitist, it's an unfortunate side effect with the last year and the existing Harry vs ot3 issues.

I think Harry has made a personal decision that he wont live like he did whilst in 1D. And I do understand it really. I think he and his team are going with the risk that he doesn't need all of his 1D fanbase to come with him, a privilege of higher profile and industry support the others don't have. I think he's redrawn boundaries, that there will be less access, less engagement and non-negotiable privacy demands. Will the risk work? Time will tell.

I actually agree with a lot of this. I think the main issue is he could have done something while still maintaining a distinct difference between the overly exposed media frenzy of the past and whatever he wants to do now. I think unfortunately it probably is because of privacy but it looks like elitism. I do wish they'd taken care of the Harry vs ot3 prior to this because I think it would've helped a lot.

Ed also never followed fans on twitter and always has low engagement

I really don't want to argue about what Ed did or didn't do. The truth is that Ed is an established artist who was always expected to release additional music. I'm not sure Harry is a good comparison.

Ed started engaging fans again after his first two songs came out. Harry has nothing but a date to engage fans with. I obviously hope that once he has material to work with, he'll start interacting more, but there's only so much he has right now. Ed took a year off all social media as well. Harry deserves the chance to introduce his album and solo career the way that seems most natural to him.

He does. I'm not arguing he should or should not pull an Ed. Everyone's different. For me, I wish he had said something earlier. That's all.

I can't connect this harry to the harry I've loved for six years and it sort of hurts. I'm excited for his music but this disconnect of personality is harsh and he's got to change it to keep those that are already here, here. Ya feel?

I think it's unfair to compare H's release to either Louis' or Niall's. With niall, we didn't know he was working on anything until it dropped. I'm not sure why there's a double standard. Harry hasn't been active on SM since like WWA era. It's unfair to say he's taking fans for granted bc time and time again he expresses gratitude and love for his fans. I don't think he's fully had the chance to do so publicily yet in regards to his solo stuff. Don't count him out just yet.

I said I was trying to reserve judgement. But I do believe his window for saying something is narrowing.

I'm trying to rationalize someone who seemed to love his fans and loved interacting with them to now this person they have been creating for the past year who is an aloof superstar that appears to not care about communicating to his fans. It goes against everything we knew and seen from Harry for the past six years & is a bad strategy long term imo. You may get the initial hype but it doesn't bode well for keeping fans & the GP long term. Even Ed Sheeran re-engaged his fan base and the GP.

I know Harry is likely a private person and that's okay. I get that. He doesn't need to share all the parts of himself. He doesn't need to share everything. But something would be nice.

I'm trying to remain in the wait and see column but it's getting tougher.
