You’re walking along, minding your own business but then you sense them.They don’t look any different than regular Estonian, but something is just different about them. You hear the air filling with y’s and ä’s. Then it is that you realise exactly who you were sensing earlier - the Finns have arrived.

Finnish Christmas songs really are something else… like other countries have these nice and festive and happy songs and all we sing about are dead relatives and sadness. There is one happy song but even that one contains the line “life only lasts a moment and it is dark and nasty”. Finns know what merriment is about.

A very random post, but lately I’ve been reading up on the different types of Finnish national costumes (because why not learn about your own heritage). I was looking at headwear when I came across this traditional headband and it just reminded me of spiked collars and belts so much that it made me laugh. I’ve said it before but Finnish blood must be extra spooky. Who knew national costumes could be so metal?

apparently modern medieval scholars have no solid idea why there’s so many old paintings of knights fighting snails.  Like that wasn’t just one weird painting there’s hundreds of those.
