Yeah, I donāt get the ā15 years of developmentā argument, either. IRās development was condensed into the first two arcs of the series, rounding out with the beginning of the arrancar arc, and after that, their dynamic was literally defined by long stretches of time spent apart in between reunions where their bond was reinforced as the same old thing it always was, with no change in sight. It stagnated with the beginning of the arrancar arc, just as their screentime began to plateau. Because it simply had no where else to go. They were as close as they could be, and Kubo had no intention of taking it into romance, so there was nothing left to develop.Ā And once the HM arc began, you can literally count their interactions: 1. Rukia showing up in HM with Renji before the group goes their separate ways. 2. Ichigo seeing Rukia and the others on his way to confront Ulquiorra. 3. Ichigo protecting Rukia after the lust arc during the brief battle with Yammy.4.The moment they all meet back up again after the Aizen battle. 5 The goodbye scene when Ichigo loses his powers. 6. Rukia showing up in the FB arc to restore his powers.7. Ichigo visiting Rukia and Renji in the hospital in the final arc. 8. The hot springs scene.9. Rukia and Renji showing up to where Ichigo and Orihime are before Renji and Ichigo leave to pursue Yhwach. 10. Rukia and Renji visiting the Kurosaki home.And thatās it. The HM arc began with chapter 239. The final chapter was 686. So, a total of 10 interactions in 239-686 chapters. Thatās over half of the seriesā65%! Nearly 450 chapters went by, and Ichigo and Rukia were together a total of 10 times, sometimes for mere seconds, while sheās attached at Renjiās hip the entire time.So, you can just imagine how many years went by without any new content or IR interactions for them. Thatās the reason they hyped up IR reunions so much, because Ichigo and Rukia rarely spent any time together in the last 65% of the series. If your ship is getting consistent screentime, you donāt need reunions, because they donāt spend enough time apart to require them.And as you said, they talked about IH more than they talked about their own ship because IH had a lot more new manga moments and content to discuss. IHās screentime and development was consistent all the way through: the arrancar arc, the HM arc, the FB arc, the final arc. We gained in moments and screentime and momentum and development, while they never got back what they had in the very first arc of the series. And so, to cope with that, they had to pick apart virtually every single IH interaction, analyze it with a microscope and then write long-winded meta about how toxic and terrible it all was and how it clearly was spelling out the imminent downfall of IH. Meanwhile, with every IR interaction (however few there were), we were likeĀ ācool.ā We didnāt have to break it down to diminish some perceived threat, because we didnāt see it as a threat. We didnāt have to prove that it was toxic or terrible, because it wasnāt. It was great! A great friendship, great bond. It just wasnāt romantic.
