i generally think that like "everyone under 20 actually cannot read" is one of those generational moral panic kinds of deals. but i do think that I encounter people more now where the only way i can understand how they are interacting is if I assume they can not understand half the words in what they are responding to
where do you discover music? also if you shared a list of your all time favorites that would be awesome
I use RateYourMusic's New Music page a LOT to find things that just came out, and I use their charts a fair amount when i want to get conversant in a genre. But I go about these things in a pretty rigorous weird completionist way, so that might not work for you.
To be honest, a pretty good way to be introduced to music you would not hear otherwise is something like college radio - and I'm not just saying this because I am now volunteering and doing radio DJ sets at a college radio station. There might be one that you can listen to on the radio itself, but a lot of them now have ways that you can listen to a webcast of what's currently playing as well as prior shows. For example. You will definitely hear things all over the place but like, with some level of human intention beyond weird algorithms that are pretty shallow.
All time favorites are hard to pin down, because I like a lot of different stuff.
Electronic (in some way): Portishead, Massive Attack, Masters At Work, C+C Music Factory, La Bouche, Recoil, Pendulum, Error, James K, Aphex Twin
Hardcore/Metal/Aggressive Music: Godflesh, Zao, Converge, Nine Inch Nails, Coalesce, With Honor, Modern Life is War, Bane, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Circle Takes the Square, Gorilla Biscuits, Embrace, Ceremony (I could go on and on)
Rock Music Otherwise: Jackson Browne, The Clash, Placebo, Popul Vuh, Indigo Girls, Sheryl Crow, The Ronettes
Other: Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Enya, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Harold Budd, Lorena McKennitt
I'm probably forgetting stuff, but this is definitely my short list for like, what really works for me. There's definitely lesser albums from all of these artists but I think each of them has one truly great album at least.
Favorite new releases of April 2026, divided into punk/hc/metal vs. everything else. No particular order.
A guy just came up to us and like told me “I like your… mask” but was gesturing towards my tits. Like good save dude
Roisin Murphy is an interesting example of the sort of caustic influence of transphobia bc it seems to have actually flipped her from being pro Palestine to being a Zionist as well
Is there anyone else that has had this turn? I feel like it’s an especially weird one

(in my mind) okay i am definitely winning at Blowjob right now
Guess who’s #winning at Blowjob again
its actually kind of crazy how much this war is being used as a stock manipulation scheme by the president. i feel like that should be a bigger story
ive been really into listening to new music so I don't feel like I'm becoming completely stagnant as a person. and what ive learned is that everyones back into nu metal again
favorite releases of February, divided into like punk/metal/hardcore and those that aren't. No particular order
partway through a date i got asked if I identify as neurodivergent i na way that felt like it had implications
i find it fucked up that one actor is responsible for like how we think of the way that 20s-40s gangsters talk, but it's even worse that another actor from the 50s is the origin of the modern idea of 'pirate talk'
oh so you think that nuclear proliferation is bad??? and yet... you also wish to use a knife to cut bread, despite the fact that it can be used to stab and kill people. really makes you think
i feel like the reason that dating is so frustrating in certain ways is because it is a process that solicits like basically zero feedback and therefore is like impossible to figure out what is actually the problem (if one even exists)
i rewatched Silence of the Lambs recently and its like. okay well no one has really adequately explained why they shouldn't have just done SRS on Jame Gumb if that would potentially diminish whatever "totally not trans" problem that was going on. Seems more efficient then whatever it was they were doing
