the look in her eyes spoke volumes. if her twin and coven mate thought that they would have been able to sneak under her radar, then they were sorely mistaken. especially alec. he should have known better than that. or maybe he didn't care if she saw. jane wasn't sure which of the two made her more upset; the option that he underestimated her, or the possibility that he didn't care about what she thought.
people might have considered it to be odd; jane's possessiveness over her brother, but it was only because she had his best interest at heart. alec was a being that shouldn't have to settle for anyone who showed interest in him - if he was going to have a bed partner, or even worse, a mate, then they had to be of a very high standard. in jane's eyes, no one was worthy of her twin brother - not even her fellow coven mate.
"are you having fun gallivanting around the party with your harlot, dear brother?" she finally spoke up, her cold, dead eyes blinking at him. she had finally caught him, alone, without heidi, and decided to confront him.
the usual hostility that jane reserved for just about everyone that she interacted with was missing from her tone as she greeted the other vampire who had approached her from behind. she had been lingering outside of the abandoned building where the rave was taking place, waiting for the arrival of the other vampire. they had been in communication with one another through text messages here and there, jane not really being one for speaking on the phone. she much preferred to use phone calls for brief interactions, while text messages were much better for drawn out conversations; they allowed her to drawback from the conversation whenever she needed to, and pick it back up whenever she felt like it.
her nose twitched as the other's scent registered with her; familiarity. comforting. she hated the fact that makenna's scent alone was enough to bring her so much happiness almost as much as she enjoyed and relished in it.
"what took you so long?" the question was posed as she finally turned around to meet the other vampire's eyes, the blonde's eyebrows raising.
he wandered out of the party, out the back door when he realized he needed air. between the alcohol he had drank and a little something-something, his head felt floaty just enough that he knew the lights were getting to him. he had seen something that normally would've confused him but in this mindset, he just knew he needed fresh cold air even if it meant laying on the wet ground by the stream. there weren't too many people outside originally so he didn't find it odd when he heard, barely, what sounded like footsteps nearing him. ❝'i just need a minute.❞ he mumbled, eyes locked on the night sky with the occasional ray of rainbow light from the party.
being the type of man that he was, joel was never one to turn down the opportunity to party. he loved to let loose and have fun every chance that he got. he couldn't remember the last time that he had been to a rave - he'd been to plenty of parties over the years, but he hadn't been to a rave, a real one, in what felt like a decade or longer. and when he arrived at the abandoned building, he couldn't say that he was disappointed by what he had come across. he had spent the past several hours partying, throwing back drinks without a care in the world, and decided to get a little bit of fresh air. even a child of the moon like him could start feeling a little overwhelmed and claustrophobic after a while. he stopped short when he smelled the other's scent, his head cocking to the side when he heard him speak. "you alright, man?" he asked, looking down at him in his spot on the wet grass. "you're fucking up your clothes."
deputy fraenkel moved throughout the crowd, badge hidden in her jacket pocket. no gun, but she had an emergency weapon if she truly needed it. she was there as simply julia even if the throbbing music made the vein in her forehead plus with nagging annoyance. truth be told, she was looking for both anything suspicious and a reason she liked these kinds of parties when she was younger. her attention is drawn to someone nearby that she hadn't expected to see here, ❝well i'll be,❞ she says as she nears them, ❝i didn't peg you as a rave kind of person.❞
it wasn't a well kept secret that charlie wasn't a fan of parties and large gatherings. in fact, he tended to steer clear of them as often as he could, for the sole purpose of not wanting to deal with a lot of people at once. as much as he would deny it if confronted about it, charlie had an issue with social anxiety, one that he tried to ignore. however, it was unavoidable when he had to come face to face with it. he startled a bit when he heard a familiar voice, his expression softening a bit when he realized who it was. "well.. what can i say? i'm quite the wildcard. never know what to expect from me," he murmured sarcastically, the corners of his mouth twitching slightly as he suppressed a smile. "what brings you here?"
It's the media's job to keep the people informed, so when their boss asked for Kennedy's next piece to be about the storm they agreed, although begrudgingly. It felt like a fluff piece and the weather wasn't exactly something that fell in their usual interest. Even if people were saying it was a once in a lifetime phenomenon. It was still something that could easily be explained as simple science and they were content with leaving that up to the professionals in that area. What was really intriguing them was the sudden onslaught of new faces around town. Forks wasn’t exactly a hot spot for tourist, so why are all these figures suddenly popping up? There were far too many to write them off as family and far too disinterested in the small town’s charm and it's people to be some sort of getaway. Maybe Kennedy was overthinking their sudden arrival, but in the off chance that there is a story there, the journalist was dead set on finding it, starting off the best way theory knew how — by gathering intel. Both from locals and visitors.
“Hi there.” they greet with a quick smile, before immediately going through their interviewing routine. “Kennedy Stuart with Forks Daily. Do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions? It’s for the newspaper.”
After a long and tiring day at the shop, there was nothing Joel wanted more than to just have a drink and relax. As much as he loved his job, working on cars and fixing them, he found himself getting rather annoyed by a few customers. Specifically the customers who tended to not follow his advice or suggestions on car care and ended up back in the shop just two days after they had originally left. It was frustrating, to say the least, but the pros definitely outweighed the cons for him. And it also meant that he had a reason to hang out at the local bar for a few hours after work, tossing back a few drinks. With his Child of the Moon status, it took a lot more for him to get drunk, but he loved to test his limits. Joel had just finished off his third drink of the night and was gesturing for the bartender to bring him another when he noticed someone approaching him. His eyebrows raised at the introduction.
"A couple of questions?" He cocked his head to the side, a curious smile on his lips. "I suppose I can answer a few questions for you. What kind of questions are they?" The Child of the Moon straightened up a bit, nodding his thanks towards the bartender when he placed his drink down in front of him. "I'm Joel, by the way."
muses: bella + anyone
location: more than words bookstore & cafe (bella's on shift)
truth be told, bella's day had been long, and she was very glad to be able to clock out soon enough. thirty more minutes. the shop had been so busy today but otherwise she was in a rather pleasant mood. the rest of her day would be rather relaxing but she stopped her mind from wandering off elsewhere just yet. she became alert again when she realized that it was probably a customer talking to her. "i'm sorry — how can i help you?" retail voice in full swing as she looked over at the direction of someone.
there weren't many occasions where charlie had free time on his hands during the workday. being the chief of police wasn't an easy job, and he always had someone that needed something or another from him. even though he loved his job more than most things, those other things being his friends and family, he did need time to himself. which was how he found himself standing in line at his daughter's place of work, wanting to get a cup of coffee. charlie couldn't help but chuckle when he spotted bella, obviously spaced out at the front counter. he cleared his throat to get her attention, raising an eyebrow. "a little lost there, bells?" he questioned, before giving her a warm smile. "i'll just take a large coffee.." he trailed off, eyeing the menu. "and one of those sweet danishes you guys sell here. whichever one tastes the best."
𝐴 𝑆𝐶𝑂𝑊𝐿 𝑇𝑊𝐼𝑆𝑇𝐸𝐷 𝐻𝐼𝑆 features, eyes narrowing in a glare directed at his twin, but there’s no malice there— and if there were any doubt, it’s quickly erased by the begrudging smirk that lifts his blood-stained lips. “Fuck off,” he titters, wiping his own hand across the sharp jut of his chin just after Jane. Had anyone else attempted such a gesture, especially in the midst of his feeding, they’d have found themselves quickly devoid of any inkling or awareness of where they were in time and space, or perhaps without a hand.
Alec looked toward the sky, the sun resting deep beneath the horizon by this hour, and then back to Jane. The color had returned to her eyes, and with it, a small spark of life— that glimmering mischief Alec knew to always be there, deep down, hidden from everyone but the two of them; the mirror of the one that shone in his own.
"The sooner the better, I'm sure," he huffed, disgruntled with their lack of anything to present as a solid solution— or really even a solid lead. "Though I wouldn't mind doing another sweep near downtown. Up to you." As he usually left it.
Alec stood and scooped up the homeless man's carcass, deftly ripping the remainder of the man to pieces that he crushed or tossed into the wood as he saw fit. Always calculated, but never careful with anything or anyone but his sister. He brushed off bits of dust and gore that had managed to stain the clothing beneath his cloak — yes, he was a messy eater — before offering a hand to Jane. "Shall we?"
A small sound, almost akin to a giggle, bubbled up in Jane's chest at Alec's response to her teasing, amusement dancing in her eyes. It was almost second nature to tease her twin. The person who had been by her side consistently for over a thousand years. And she knew that no matter how much she teased him or ruffled his feathers that he would take it all in good jest. The two of them rarely, if ever, argued or had any disagreements. The few times they ever did butt heads being when one twin dismembered the bed partner of the other's. Which Jane was more susceptible to doing. She had quite the nasty jealous streak.
His response made her sigh. As loyal as Jane was to her coven and to Aro, there were rare times where she wanted to go exploring alongside her twin, without the responsibility of having a duty or job to carry out. If doing another sweep meant a little bit of extra time to themselves, then so be it. It would also give them another chance at uncovering something worth bringing back to their leaders.
It was frustrating, to say the least. Jane wasn't used to their job being so difficult. It was never that hard for them to find information. Something to present to their masters so they wouldn't come back empty handed. "We'll do another sweep," she finally concluded, an almost silent sigh escaping her lips.
She kept an ear out while Alec disposed of the homeless man's lifeless body, sparkling red eyes watching him intently. "I hope the masters aren't upset by the lack of information," she murmured under her breath. Disappointing Aro, or any of the kings really, was the last thing she wanted. If it were anyone else, she'd find it difficult to give a damn. Her eyes drifted down to his stained clothing and she bit down on her bottom lip, resisting the urge to comment on his eating habits once again. She wordlessly slipped her hand into his, before they disappeared in a blink of an eye, following the same parameters they had swept downtown just moments earlier.
Jane's take on her possibly religious made elena laugh . She hasn't thought about religion or guardian angels or god in a long time . Her own biological father was a religious man . that didn't make him a good man . a sorry excuse of a father who wanted his own daughter DEAD all because he deemed her EVIL in front of THE CHURCH . ❝ I'm sorry if I offend for laughing. Even if i believed in a higher being , i am more than capable of taking care of myself . besides in heaven, all the interesting people are missing . ❞
surely there was something jane wanted . Aside from someone to bite . Elena could have provided something other than her own blood . ❝ Oh, come on , jane . My mother taught me never to owe anyone anything . Besides , you don't know that . I might be able to do something to repay you . is there anything you want, jane ? ❞ Elena wondered . Although she knew most vampires , depending on the age , truly had whatever they wanted . ❝ but if there is nothing , I suppose it can't be helped . ❞
"You're a smart one." Jane rarely approved of people, let alone humans, so the slight bit of praise Elena received from her was nothing for one to turn their nose up at. Even though the human had no idea just how unusual it was for the vampire to hand out approval. "I'm not offended in the slightest. In fact, I rather agree with what you're saying.. For the most part. I believe that if there were a higher power, with infinite amounts of power, that there wouldn't be any suffering in the world. What kind of sadistic being sits aside and allows their creations to suffer when they could stop it at any time?"
Jane couldn't help it; she chuckled. "You're very persistent, aren't you?" The chuckle was dry, almost unamused. "If you're so set on possibly repaying me, I suppose there is something you can do for me.." Now would be the perfect time for her to try to get some more information about the town; see if the human had noticed anything particularly off. "You can answer a few questions for me."
❝ Oh , I'm jessica . ❞ She happily introduced herself . Although , the girl's coldness was a bit unsettling . Jess wondered if it was because she was having a bad day / night . If she could fix that ? ❝ Would you like to join me for a drink ? totally on me if you don't mind drinking with a stranger but I guarantee you at the end of the night we wont be ❞ the brunette smiled at jane hoping she would agree . Who doesn't like free alcohol or food if she was hungry .
"Jessica," the vampire echoed, giving a slight nod of acknowledgement. She'd met many Jessicas in her lifetime, almost as many as she had met Janes. It wouldn't be an issue for her to remember her name, even without her enhanced vampire memory. Jane hesitated at the offer, her eyebrows furrowing a bit. They usually weren't supposed to mingle with humans; they being the Volturi. However, she had an inkling that she could use Jessica to her own advantage sometime in the future. Despite the many thoughts running through her head, it only took about a second for her to respond. "I suppose I wouldn't mind partaking in a few drinks. Would you like to lead the way?"

joel's time as a human is kind of a blur to him. he vaguely remembers his parents and that he belonged to a well off family, but besides that, he doesn't remember much. his only connection to his human life is his younger sister, whom he changed into a child of the moon shortly after his own changing. he doesn't remember who his creator was, and he's ninety-nine percent sure that he was killed by a vampire or maybe even another child of the moon.
joel comes across as a charming, sweet talking kind of guy, but he can be rather brutal when he's pushed to that point. he's very protective over his sister and other children of the moon. he sees other children of the moon as his family, even if they don't know one another.
he likes to have fun, and sometimes he can go a little bit overboard when it comes to his fun. he enjoys the freedom of having unmeasurable strength, speed and immortality, and he'll get rid of anyone who tries to step in the way of his fun.
❝ Oh, I wouldn't be too sure about that ❞ Elena lightly laughed . She knew instinctually her own gifts would have protected her . Of course , that would lead to the problem of people seeing which she knew she would have preferred to avoid . people tended to act very defensively and aggressive towards something or someone they do not understand . the unknown terrified them .
❝ but seriously , thank you . Any way I can repay you ? I'll try to the best of my abilities .❞ Elena offered , knowing she would insist if she said no . ❝ declining isn't an option . ❞ the brunette smiled at jane . noting her to be a vampire . sure enough, if she knew she was part of the volturi elena would have stayed away given what her coven has said about them . she also wanted to avoid getting them into trouble for exposing their world to a human . ❝ Oh, I'm elena by the way . ❞
"Oh? Why do you say that?" Jane asked, one of her blonde eyebrows quirking upwards in question. Most people would have agreed that they were nearly killed if they were in the situation the human seemed to be in just a few moments before. "Don't tell me you're the type who believes that your guardian angel would have saved you from imminent death at the very last second." The thought of religion was laughable to the vampire.
"Repay me?" A look of surprise crossed her face for a split second, before she smoothed out her expression once again. That was a little unexpected. Humans tended to just go with the mandatory vocalized gratitude before moving about their merry way. Besides, what could a human have that Jane could possibly want? Well, blood, of course, but luckily for the girl in front of her - Elena, she had fed with her brother the night before. And there were too many people around for her to have a quick bite out of her. "I'm going to have to decline. There's really nothing you can do to repay me.. Elena." She gave her a tight lipped smile. "Jane."
Jessica looked up at the girl and couldn't shake the feeling she got . like a shiver down her spin , but she ignored it as she collected her things . ❝ Shit ❞ She picked up her usb . ❝ it really is . has all my notes and video research on the baby shark we rescued a month ago . I would have died if I lost this and all that months progress . thanks for that . ❞ Jess stood up to put it away when she got a good look at jane . ❝ Oh, you're a new face . welcome to forks . ❞
"You're welcome." The vampire verbally brushed off the gratitude, nodding her head once as the other woman spoke of her notes and research and such, most of which Jane had more or less blocked out as she waited for her to finish speaking so she could make a quick getaway. However she was stopped when she changed the subject, her head tilting to the side a bit. "Hm. How nice of you. I appreciate that..?" She trailed off, silently indicating that she was waiting for a name.
Demetri hated patrols. Part of that was because he felt like he was above standard patrols, and the other part of it was he didn't enjoy being away from Chelsea when he could help it and he wasn't off tracking someone. "You've been blessed, let's just leave it at that." he said, rolling his eyes at the clear annoyance on Jane's face at the fact that they'd been paired together for this particular turn at patrolling the forks border. "If you mean have I picked up on the scent of about a dozen mutts getting more nervous with every step closer to their treaty line with the Cullens we walk, yes. I've picked up on a few things. That and an alarming amount of gossip from teenagers on their lunch break at the high school."
He didn't know why so many of the elite guard had been directed to Forks. Their masters were there, but aside from guarding the Kings and their wives, he saw no reason any of them should be there. He saw Jane as the little sister he never had nor asked for, but he respected her enough to know of the strength and danger of her power, and that was enough for a friendly and familiar rapport to start between them through the centuries. "This is what I don't understand.. if we don't find anything, my tracking skills and your pain infliction is of little use to anyone.. of course, unless you wanted to use your powers on woodland creatures or idiotic high schoolers. I've only just joined you all here, has Master Aro said anything about why we're all here?"
"Blessed." Jane couldn't help but scoff under her breath at his response - a joke, if anything. It had to have been. Her annoyance spiked at the mention of the god forsaken, foul smelling dogs that were galavanting throughout the state of Washington. She couldn't believe that they were forced to be around them. All she really wanted was for all of this to come to an end. She wanted to go back home and chalk this up as another victory on the Volturi's belt. But it was going to take work to get to that point. Especially with the amount of shapeshifters that were around. And the apparent resurgence of Children of the Moon. Her lip curled at the thought. "Look at you being useful for something," she murmured, the jab coming out almost reflexively. It was second nature for her to make snide comments, even though she didn't particularly hate the other vampire she was currently with.
"Don't tempt me." Jane had quickly become annoyed by the blathering of the high schoolers that were within hearing range. They spoke of nothing of importance. She heaved a heavy sigh, glancing at her partner of the evening. "He didn't tell me much about the matter.. All he told me was that there's something brewing here in these parts. There's a lot of supernatural activity around here and.. Apparently Children of the Moon have been spotted as well."
“On the other side of the wooden doors was a different kind of reception. The pale boy in the pearl gray suit could have been Jane’s twin. His hair was darker, and his lips were not as full, but he was just as lovely. He came forward to meet us. He smiled, reaching for her.”
