The Ring of Fire
“You’re not on the streets any longer, are you? You’re playing with the big boys, now, Shoshana. Act like it,” he said, mildly. Loki reached down, placing a hand over her ribcage, and whispered an incantation to heal her aches and pains. “If I didn’t know you, and you mouthed off to me like that, I wouldn’t have hesitated to separate your head from your body. You’re strong, Blaze, but not the strongest in the land. What is that Midgardian saying?”
Loki brought his hand up to his chin, deep in thought. “Ah! Don’t let your mouth write checks your power can’t cash.”
Blaze pouted at both his admonishment and his use of her real name, crossing her arms sulkily. "I don' wanna," she said petulantly, more to spite Loki than anything. "I wouldn' be stupid enough t' mouth off to a god...well, ok, maybe I would," she amended, thinking about the days when Loki was far less amenable to her. Although she hadn't so much been sassy as much as a kitten begging for attention.
"Ahh, screw this saying and that saying! I'll be th' strongest, obnoxious mouth or no. Ain't no point in fightin' if ya can't have a bit of fun in th' meanwhile. Tha's half the reason t' fight at all."
The Ring of Fire
The duplicate disappeared in a hiss of steam. Loki spun his staff as the ball of flames drew closer, using it and his magic to deflect it. He pulled back, gripping it in one hand, and fired a bolt of energy at Blaze, strong enough to knock her off her feet, but not injure her. Without hesitating, Loki leaped forward as Blaze fell backwards, coming down on her chest and effectively pinning her to the ground, spear tip pointed at her throat. “Good!” Loki laughed. “Very good.”
Slowly, Loki rose to his feet, bending to offer her a hand. “Cockiness will get you killed, however. Focus on offense and defense rather than witty one-liners, yes?”
"Oh, fuck me," quipped Blaze as she was knocked to the ground, thoroughly winded. She swallowed thickly as the spear grazed her throat, a surly frown on her face. Loki chuckled above her, holding out a hand to help her get up. She took it grudgingly, wincing at the ache in her ribcage.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get it. You gotta admit, I had you fooled for a bit, yeah? You thought I'd totally forgotten you were there, right?" She rolled her shoulders, cracking them rather loudly. "Sometimes smart-talkin' helps ya get outta situations. That's how it is, on th' streets. Ya get idiots who flounder soon as ya distract em with some snide remark. Tha's jus' how I learned. I can't help it."
The Ring of Fire
Blaze stretched gratefully once the helm was removed, rolling her neck and producing a quick series of loud cracks. ”Sometimes I do, yeah,” she replied, stretching out her limbs. “‘S kinda hard t’ find people though, ya know? They’re not so sociable here, like back at the Academy.” Emotion flickered briefly in her eyes before she perked up at Loki’s offer. She grinned widely, skin prickling with excitement.
“Hell yes I wanna fight!” she said in excitement, sliding into a fighting stance without even thinking about it. She knew she couldn’t possibly win against him, even in a play fight, but the prospect of sparring with him alone was enough to get her adrenaline pumping quicker than normal. Deciding she might as well take every advantage she could, she leapt at him straight away, the fire already dancing across her knuckles as she aimed a series of punches at his unprotected face.
Loki leaned back and rolled with Blaze’s punch, using the motion to pull up his opposite leg and deliver a blow to her back. The god straightened, fingers brushing over a burn mark along his cheek. “Good! Use the element of surprise whenever you can.” With a wave of his hand, Loki’s spear materialized and with the blunt end, took a swat at his friend to distract her from the duplicate he was creating.
“Always be aware of your surroundings,” said the duplicate, swinging his own staff at her.
Blaze fell to the ground, rolling back onto her feet and wincing at the pain in her back. She felt a thrill of satisfaction at seeing the burn on his face, although she didn't have much time to gloat before she was forced to dodge a staff aimed right for her skull. "Oh please, I invented the element of surprise!" she grinned cockily.
"Always be aware of your surroundings," came the silky voice from behind her, and she swore under her breath. Even as she attempted to flip away, the staff whacked solidly into her ribs and sent her crashing back down with a thump. Without missing a beat, she growled and turned to face the duplicate, seemingly forgetting all about the real deal and focusing completely on the copy.
"Be aware of this!" she snarled, sending a jet of flame roaring out of her palm and set to engulf the duplicate entirely; at the same time, she crossed her other arm around her chest, pointing her other hand at the real Loki behind her and sending an even bigger tongue of fire his way.
The Ring of Fire
“Su…tur?” she said, wrapping her tongue around the unfamiliar name. She beamed brightly, bouncing up and down like a child. ”Ya really think so? Ya ain’t jus’ messin’ with me? Man, now I wanna meet ‘im — the last Fire Giant!! What—ack!” She stumbled a bit as the heavy helmet was placed carelessly on her head — she swore she felt a vertebrae or two creak — and managed to lift it up just enough so that she could see.
“Yep! I have m’ own punchin’ bags an’ everythin’! It’s easy t’ tell which’re mine, they’ve all got a bunch of scorch marks on ‘em, ya know?” She grinned. ”But I mostly practice outside, ya know? Or else I might burn somethin’ important down. Like th’ building.”
“That’s half the fun, isn’t it? And what about sparing with people? Do you do that often?” Seeing her discomfort, Loki removed his helmet from her head and set it down on the grass. “What do you say? Are you up to a little friendly fight with someone who is, for all intents and purposes, immune to your attacks?” Loki quirked an eyebrow at the girl, grinning wolfishly, and took a step back.
Blaze stretched gratefully once the helm was removed, rolling her neck and producing a quick series of loud cracks. "Sometimes I do, yeah," she replied, stretching out her limbs. "'S kinda hard t' find people though, ya know? They're not so sociable here, like back at the Academy." Emotion flickered briefly in her eyes before she perked up at Loki's offer. Seeing the joy in Blaze’s eyes was enough to persuade Loki to stay, not that he would ever tell her so. Truthfully, he would do anything for the girl if it meant her happiness, even if he had to hang around Midgard. “You did impress me. There’s a creature… a man… back in Asgard called Sutur—he’s the last Fire giant left in all the realms— and I truly believe even he would have been impressed.” Loki stroked his long fingers through Blaze’s silky hair, practically beaming with pride. With his free hand, Loki slipped his horned helmet off and plopped it down on her head. Hopefully the weight of it wasn’t too much for her tiny body to bear…
“Do they have you spar, here?” he asked, off-handedly.
"Su...tur?" she said, wrapping her tongue around the unfamiliar name. She beamed brightly, bouncing up and down like a child. "Ya really think so? Ya ain't jus' messin' with me? Man, now I wanna meet 'im -- the last Fire Giant!! What--ack!" She stumbled a bit as the heavy helmet was placed carelessly on her head -- she swore she felt a vertebrae or two creak -- and managed to lift it up just enough so that she could see.
"Yep! I have m' own punchin' bags an' everythin'! It's easy t' tell which're mine, they've all got a bunch of scorch marks on 'em, ya know?" She grinned. "But I mostly practice outside, ya know? Or else I might burn somethin' important down. Like th' building."
The Ring of Fire
Loki watched with silent approval as Blaze danced with her fire. In the short amount of time she had been at the Brotherhood, she had progressed in leaps and bounds. No longer was she flailing blindly with flaming fists, but actually coming to understand her fire and using it as one would a limb. Slowly, a grin spread across his face, his eyes glittering. “Blaze, Blaze, Blaze…” he murmured, rising from the bench and bridging the gap between them. “I don’t believe I’ve ever been so proud of you.” Loki leaned down and pressed an icy kiss her cheek.
A big smile spread across her face at Loki's praise and she giggled at the feeling of his cold lips on her skin. "Are ya really?" she said, eyes glittering with hope. "Does that mean your'e gonna stay a while longer? I impressed ya, didn' I? I told ya I'd gotten a lot stronger, see? I been practicin' a lot, y'know." She practically vibrated with excitement. She'd missed Loki intensely and an extended stay, even if it was only to train her, would send her sailing up to cloud nine.

Suddenly Ms. Marvel with a chainsaw isn’t such a foreign idea.
Clint was about to tell her that he didn’t know what she was saying until the door slammed in his face and it all processed that she too was asleep and probably could have used more sleep than he. But the fact that she slammed the door and was in her underwear didn’t really help things and had him hesitate to knock once more.
He let out a deep sigh as his shoulder pressed against the doorframe, awaiting for his miniature partner to get dressed so the two could hit up some early morning training as it’s what Clint must do in order to endure and continue to be an Avenger. He knows that being the normal man with no powers, money or the likes means he has to bust ass in order to be accepted with the others. Something he had absolutely no problems doing as there’s no other that is worthy of being considered best marksman.
Assuming she asked if he was ready, he replied with a short yes before nodding towards the direction the two needed to head off to. “Want some breakfast before or after the work out?”
Blaze yawned widely, rubbing at her eyes. Clint looked just as sleepy as she was, which made her feel a bit better about herself. Even the elite Avengers were groggy in the morning, she thought with a bit of a smile.
She tapped her nose as she pondered his question. Naturally, she wanted food -- she was a bottomless pit, when did she not want food -- but that probably wouldn't be good just before a workout. Not really her style, either. "Afterwards," she decided. "'M not used t' doin' any sorta trainin' or physical stuff on a full stomach. Plus it ain't too good when yer jumpin' round an' all that, is it? Blegh." She stuck out her tongue and mimed projectile vomiting. "What kinda workout do ya do, anyway?"
He couldn’t help but to laugh at her temper tantrum towards the strangers watching them. It was cute if not funny. He watched in amusement as the fire came to be, it was interesting. They could make a helluva team up as the two can work great hand in hand—you know if they were in the business to destroy rathe than protect. Well but then again he wasn’t in no business other than keeping him and the Runaways safe. She on the other hand was friends with actual heroes.
“So in this time, how many mutants are there in the Avengers?”
Blaze extinguished her fire and frowned in thought, hands on her hips. "Y'know, 'm not actually sure. I mean, 'm sure there's a lot of 'em runnin' round, or at least a few, considerin' Ol' Man Fury seemed t' think I might fit in well at S.H.I.E.L.D. someday. But I didn' really get t' see fer m'self in the time I was there. What about in yer time? From th' way ya talk, it seems like a lot o' things change."
Clint’s eyes widened when she slammed the door. He didn’t need to hear it to know that it was being slammed, the door hit the frame faster than it would have if she closed it regularly. His face was blank for a moment before he turned around to head back to his quarters, laughing as he took a few steps away.
He wasn’t laughing about the slamming but how serious and surreal it all had been. On one hand, the kid was adorable with the backwards letters. On the other, it seemed she was embarrassed by her mistake and had to slam the door in order for her to realize.
Stepping into his room, he undressed and dropped onto his bed. It was going to be a long day tomorrow, and hopefully he’ll be able to overcome the hearing obstacle. First problem: waking up.
It took Clint an hour past his normal sleep schedule to finally wake up and realize just how late he was. Panicking he pretty much hopped into the bathroom as he was attempting to brush his teeth, hair and dress all at the same time.
Sprinting moments later to knock repeatedly at her door and attempt to wake her up.
Blaze was in the middle of a rather nice dream about eating a giant cheeseburger when a series of sudden, loud knocks snapped her out of her deep sleep. She flailed a bit, got tangled in the blankets and hit the ground with a loud whump. "Son of a bitch!" she grumbled, scrambling up and wrenching the door open. She was too tired to care about the fact that she was in her underwear and her scars were on full display. She rubbed at her eyes and squinted up at Clint in the light. "I'm up, I'm up, I promise I'm up, ok? Give me like, five minutes, ok? Five."
She closed the door in his face and nearly broke her neck tripping over the nest of blankets on the floor, swearing loudly. She dressed quickly and haphazardly, brushing her teeth and dragging a brush through her hair (she really was due for a cut) and pulling it into a ponytail. Pausing only to make sure that she hadn't put anything on backwards, she opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, where Clint was waiting. "Mornin' then," she said cheerfully, a little more awake from the already hectic pace the day had taken. "Sleep good?"

The Ring of Fire
“It’s your body, Blaze, who am I to tell you what to do with it?” He stepped away from her and plopped down on a nearby bench. The god motioned to her, “Go on, then. Show me what you can do. If I’m impressed, I’ll stay.” He canted his head a little, grinning, “If not, I’ll go.”
"Well, it ain'tladylike,is it? Yer always so insistent on that." She rolled her eyes and smiled.
"All right, I'll show ya." She was a bit nervous now; she knew that her powers were much stronger than it had been before, but she didn't know if it would be enough to impress Loki. Shaking her head, she stepped back a bit more and held her hands out before her, effortlessly creating twin handfuls of flame that licked harmlessly across her skin. Bringing her hands together, she combined the fire and slowly augmented it until it was roughly the size of a large watermelon; at that point, she let it float up and her movements became more like a dance. She stepped back nimbly, hands making sweeping motions through the air; the ball of flame bent to her will, becoming a long column that flowed around her and scorched the grass at her bare feet.
Choosing a rather large tree as her target, she aimed a series of punches and quick slicing motions at it; as she did so, pieces of flame broke off from the giant, snakelike mass she'd created, impacting the trunk forcefully and searing and splintering the wood. She whirled around gracefully, brow furrowed in concentration as she split the fire into five thinner, separate branches, which she sent spiralling skywards with a quick hand movement. She watched their ascent, but even so, two of them wavered and began to fall sluggishly behind the others, losing their shape. Swearing, she clenched her fist and they became one entity again, compressing into a bright ball of flame once more. A harsh downward swing and it was sailing back towards Earth, towards the unfortunate tree. The fireball exploded against the trunk, visibly cracking the wood and threatening to burn the entire thing. A bit placated by the thrill of breaking something, Blaze extended a hand and drew the remaining fire back into her palm, turning towards Loki hopefully.
He nods, “I told you I would. Didn’t I?” He wasn’t one to go back on a promise, especially one as simple as this. He shuffled her hair once more, giving her an honest grin and a few words before leaving back to his room. “Tomorrow’ll be fun. Everything you need is in the room but if something isn’t right, just pick up the phone and an agent will help you. Sweet dreams, kiddo. You’ll need them.”
He turns to leave, there’s much he needs to reflect upon before getting back into his room and inside his bed. He’s going to need to prepare himself for the trial he’ll be facing tomorrow. The first being if he would be able to wake up in time. He realized that she might have a word or two that she’d like for him to read before she sleeps so he pivots towards her once more. Waiting to see if she had any final words before heading back to his quarters.
Blaze grinned, resigning herself to rumpled hair for the rest of the forseeable future. "All right, I will. You too, Clint."
She jumped and turned bright red when Clint suddenly turned to face her; she had been staring after him rather wistfully stupidly, standing half over the threshold of her doorway. She fretted a bit, wondering what it was he wanted to say before she realized that he was waiting onher. Oh. Wow, she looked like an idiot about now. Not knowing what else to do and still a bit red, she lit a fire at the tip of her index finger and drew some clumsy letters in the air, keeping the flames aloft and in shape with her powers. The N was backwards, as was the Y, but she didn't realize it.
thanks for everything
She kept the words in the air just long enough for Clint to read them before snatching them away and shutting the door behind her rather harder than necessary.
Yeah, she was an idiot.
