rapt gaze flicker in express succession, which stare unconsciously at the severed chip before its untimely demise, crunching and dissolving down his throat. somehow, this makes her increasingly hungrier ———- once he’s finished with his tale, the brunette gives a rather listless smile as the whites of her eyes broaden, subsequent to her head tilting vague to the side with a single, prolonged nod. ❛ that’s……interesting, but — not exactly what i had in mind, no. ❜ she’s unable to keep herself from a mellow chuckle at his nonchalant enthusiasm, however, her fry into some ketchup. ❛ though i am curious about the place where he found it. if you’d be up for showing me, that is. ❜
Another audible gulp, a second’s delay and he bursts out a, “Right! Yeah, yeah... just a hop, skip’n a jump downhill. Dunno if I remember the exact spot, mind, fairly dark at th’time...” He scratces the back of his neck with greasy fingers then trudges down the cobbled slope. Overhead, the sun breaks across the horizon in its blinding afternoon light and Jago squints, looking back at Danika. “Better remember to chuck yer litter where it rightly belongs, Mister Frost will ‘ave yer head otherwise. Use yer hair to stuff his pillows -- at least thass’ the rumour nowadays,” he says with a shrug, boots continuing their clomping rhythm upon stone.

“So’s it’s just about laggin’ on for the early mornin’ hours, innit, and Max’s only gone‘n’exhausted his whole bleddy supply of value cider -- tastes like piss but Lord and his lover only knows what it taste like t’you yanks -- anyway! Max swaggers on down by where all th’youngens go rockpoolin’, scopes out some bo’tle washed up, cork right up n’it and all -- cork, mind you -- he can’t believe his luck like, thinks it’s come all th’way from the fine ol’ provinces of France, somma that vineyard shite where they stomp’n’jig all over ‘em grapes like bleddy Fantasia! Max then, bless’m, pops the cork off’n takes a swig... says it’s the best forkin’ booze he’s had since Amy’s sixteenth!” The loud chewing over a massacred chip carries on before he gulps the starch down. “’Course he di’nt let me ‘ave any... Is that wot you meant by wantin’ to hear local legends?”

When the sea king began to sing, all sorrow and pain vanished, and all joy as well, for everything was forgotten. She forgot her father’s love and the memory of her mother. She forgot that she had grown up on earth and had once looked up at the sky. She forgot the summer roses in the castle gardens and she forgot the snowflakes of winter, the incense in the church, and the candles on the altar. The only thing she remembered was the sea king, and she longed for nothing else but to be at his side for the rest of her life and to hear him playing.
