bloodymistressâ:
âWe do have that aspect in common, my friend. The best things to enjoyed are to be savored.â She was oddly relieved that his mood was exceptionally better since they last saw each other, contrary to her own mood. Oh well, she could hide hers well enough.
At his conditions, she almost rolled her eyes but grinned and agreed. âAlright. No cheating and no compulsions. I could win without them.â She started to swiftly deal the cards out.
âSo, tell me, what have you been up to for the past few months? Youâre very elusive, you know.â Not that she has been actively searching for him, but itâs no secret that the man keeps to himself most of the time.
.
Friend. Not a word he could assign to many, but he supposed she was as close as one could get. For him, anyway. Their interactions had been few and far between, but still he felt a narrow slither of empathy to this woman who had endured the same change; vampire to chthonic. It hadnât been easy. It still wasnât easy.
Flattening his fingers to the cards, he slid them across the table and peeled them up so as to conceal them from others. His expression remained as stoic as always.Â
âAside from languishing in darkness and lust, you mean?â An off-hand comment; his attempt at humour. And indeed, the jest lifted to his eyes and to the curve that traced his lips as he glanced up at her. Throwing down a card, he shrugged dismissively. âI have been acclimatising to this new species. In the beginning, it was far easier on my own. Now, I think I have almost mastered the basics. Oh, and I purchased a prisoner.â Wickedness consumed him, then. âShe is a handful.â
While it is a bit of a stretch to call them âfriendsâ, she canât deny that they have much more common than most, given their status, personalities, and their transition of species. If they had more history aside from their sporadic encounters, perhaps they would be better friends.
âYes, aside from that.â She chuckled and took her time to look at her own hand of cards and organizing them in a particular way, not letting anyone see them, then throwing her own card down. âThatâs good to hear. Itâs been quite an adjustment for anyone, but learning to control it is great.â Her own control of it has been decent enough, but she strived for that aspect. She couldnât bare to let the Dominion know that she was faltering.
His news of purchasing a prisoner was a shock, though. Very rarely would Erebus do such a thing. They werenât really that close and even she knew that. âShould I ask what drove you to making such a decision to buy a prisoner? She must be a special one to get your attention like that.â
