THE STAR SEEKERS 4TH ANNIVERSARY: LET FATE DECIDE

( not my most favorite drawing for the anniversary but I had no energy to draw anything else or anything more complex than this after making five separate sketch ideas

based on the title, the idea is there, star one are letting fate decide, but not quite. Soule is in charge of the die and is reaching to it knowing what's to come. Viken does not allow for fate to decide and is holding his hand back. Taho trusts and follows Soule's decision. Eugene has already been given the brunt of fate and is now holding back, worried to see more. Avys is hesitant but doesn't go against it as he also reaches for the die.

I still really like last year's anniversary drawing, so maybe that's why it was very intimidating to try to top that. anyways, who wants to bet there will be no tss content all throughout this year? )

so, What Is This?

this month txt released an official hardcover binding of their webnovel The Star Seekers, it comes with exclusive photoshoot images as the chapter markers and its a very cool addition to a txt collection

this isn't just a novelisation of their graphic novel collection under the same name its a retelling of the same story with slight changes, it elaborates on things further and there are the occasional differing scene or version of events, personally i enjoy the novel Much More than the graphic novel (partially because of the art style but also i love the detailed narration)

both the webnovel and the graphic novel were released episodically around the same time but the webnovel never got a physical release until now

( good news, I just need two exams and I had some time yesterday to draw something. bad news, I still have two exams, so I'll be getting busy once more. I should be free by Friday.

this should be the finalized look of viken's thorns. I completely forgot to draw them on my redesign drawing, but oh well. I took inspo from the anime on how to design his thorns and I took the liberty to make a change on viken's causality effects: instead of one shoulder, it'll be both. it makes more sense since it'll show the symbolism of his "burden" but also, if Soule can feel pain in both ears, why not viken on both shoulders? )

im getting the star seekers novel physically soon. i will probably have words by then

MY SPECIALTY hi so if u just want to see the bare minimum for hyyh parallel purposes theres a novelisation (that u can find free on ao3 shhh)

but!!!! how the txt lore works is slightly different than how hyyh works- the mvs (+u) and the novel (the star seekers) arent the same thing they are different universes with different stories paralleling each other to tell the same basic message

the star seekers is a much more literal and coherent narrative like the notes where an idol group makes a deal with the devil in exchange for magic and gets dragged into a multiverse spanning conflict

+u is the music video narrative which is broader and fairytale-esque following a group of boys who attempt to run away from reality to avoid the horrors of growing up and face tragedy as they are taken advantage of by those who prey on their fears

there are frequent similarities and parallels- the star seekers directly references and elaborates on multiple mv scenes in its own narrative + has its own promotional videos (animated 'the dooms night' and the mv 'frost') but they diverge primarily in the setting and literal events that take place, +u is (almost) Every mv and concept film txt makes whereas the star seekers is loosely based on a select few

as a hyyh fan, the +u is tonally and thematically Much more hyyh-esque than the star seekers and is especially fun if spending time theorising and interpreting music videos is part of what made hyyh so special (txt take this one step further and 99% of their lyrics And choreography are also directly linked to the plot), the star seekers is closer in genre to chakho with the modern fantasy action focus whereas the +u has that coming of age supernatural tragedy vibe hyyh is great at

HOWEVER if all you want is to know what the fuckass hyyh cat is doing in txt... the star seekers novel is probably a good shout as its less complex and features the cat as a tangible character- the cat is a present character however throughout both narratives as an antagonist, the videos that include it as a direct physical presence on screen are 'nap of a star', 'magic island', 'eternally', 'the dooms night', the name chapter concept trailer and the together concept trailer

im on chapter 4 rn and i cannot stress enough how much deltarune and the txt universe remind me of eachother both narratively and thematically like. what if we were on the cusp of growing up and we clung to the past through a magical ttrpg-esque adventure in a secret land except the horrors persisted and our traumas and secrets we tried so hard to escape started to invade the only safe place we had left and we realised we are only making things worse by running away and we have to stop an apocalypse now too

i think its insane that i barely see people talk about changjun when talking about hyyh considering hes one of the most important characters of the whole narrative, like i know hes not based of a bts member so hes obviously going to be less noticed but the prologue to the entire story is centred around him, his dynamic with seokjin is one of the most fascinating parts of the whole story, and hes the closest the narrative has to a main antagonist- not acknowledging his existence and how heavily it impacts the plot severely limits your understanding of both the story and the characters

as of an hour ago i just finished playing the zero escape trilogy for the first time ever and. i can't not project my hyyh hyperfixation on it

TIME LOOPS. SOCIETAL MICROCOSMS. FOUND FAMILY. DOOMED ROMANCES. A LOT OF PEOPLE DYING IN A LOT OF FUCKED UP WAYS. GREEK LEVELS OF TRAGEDY

eternally thinking about both hyyh scenes where jungkook is playing shooting games and imagining the other members as the enemies to varying degrees of projection. can we talk about this more. like its such an interesting way to portray his growing paranoia and antagonism against the rest of the group

id never wish a hyperfixation thats constantly talked about but rarely ever actually understood on anyone not even my worst enemy. wdym i have to scroll through posts daily that sound like the op has never even seen it to even find a single post thats remotely accurate or relevant. wdym theres like 10 fics on ao3 max that are remotely canon compliant. wdym i have to watch as people get hit posts on something that literally makes 0 sense for the characters or their plot and all the replies are going omg so true. wdym anytime i bring up any of my favourite aspects of canon or character work people go huh ive never heard of that. i need a gun
