"Congrats, Bon Bon. You are officially a store owner."
The Bennett witch smiled looking around her new opened flowers and herbs shop. Today was the grand opening and everything was perfect...well not that perfect. There were some hiccups in the beginning, and they were BIG hiccups. Glass vases breaking, wrong flowers were ordered, and Bonnie's personal favorite - the electricity going out. How fun.
However, with the help of her Grams and mother to help with customers and the Salvatore brothers saving the day fixing the electricity and the breaker panel, the grand opening of The Raven Garden was smooth sailing all the way to closing time in the evening.
"Well I wouldn't have gotten through the day without you and Stefan."
Damon brought Bonnie into his arms to kiss her lightly sweaty forehead. "You owe me, witch." The Vampire snorted when he felt a sharp pinch to his side. "Rude."
"But really, Damon." Bonnie looked up at her brat of a friend. "Thank you for being there when I needed you. Opening this shop..." she sighed already feeling the stress weighing back on her. There was something else tugging at her chest but she ignored it. That wasn't important. "It was a lot."
Damon scrunched his brows together seeing the sudden sadness on the witch's face. "You know...ever since you came back from your little witchy trip -"
"It was not a witchy trip." Bonnie slapped Damon's arm.
"You said you were going to Australia to look up more witchy woowoo plants to study."
"Do you actually hear yourself? Witchy woowoo, Damon? What are you? Five?"
"Whatever you want to call it." He lightly plucked Bonnie's cute nose. "And don't change the subject. Ever since you came back from your tour around The Down Under, you haven't been the same."
Bonnie rolled her eyes pulling away from her friend. "Don't start okay. Don't start this again, Damon."
"I'm serious, Bon. Ever since you came back you've been different."
"Different how?" Bonnie called out from the back room.
"I don't know...distracted for one. Lost in some cases. Sometimes I see you staring out the window like..."
"Like what?" Bonnie came from the back holding a box of dried herbs that needed to be restocked.
"Like you're waiting for someone."
Bonnie felt her heart squeeze. A quick flash of a face entered her mind. She shook her head not wanting to think about it. But the more she tried to forget the face, the more it came back. Everything that happened within the year in Australia began flooding back. She tried her best not to think about her time there but it was starting become harder to hide what she was feeling. When coming back to New Orleans, the seven months she worked on The Raven Garden have been a great distraction but now there was nothing keep her mind off Al- ahem, Australia.
"And you make that face." He pointed to her. "All the time."
Bonnie blinked hearing Damon come from beside her. "What face?"
"Like you're about to cry."
Bonnie felt the familar sting in her eyes whenever she tried to hold back her tears. The tightness in her chest was becoming unbearable. Why? Why now? All these months she have been fine. Bonnie was able to keep her feelings contained around her family and friends. She tried to be careful because she knew if she didn't, she would have to answer questions. Questions she was not ready to answer. Answers that would lead to the conversation about him.
The Bennett witch shook her head clearing her thoughts. "I'm fine, Damon." A lie.
"It's nothing." Another lie. "I'm good." And another.
Damon stared down at his best friend with concern. He knew Bonnie was not alright. He knew that something happened in Australia and he knew it was bad. Whatever happened it pissed the vampire off. "Since when do we keep things from each other?"
Those words stabbed Bonnie in the gut. She felt guilty keeping things from Damon but she really wasn't ready to unpack everything. Especially not now. Not after the wonderful days she just had.
"Thank you Damon for helping me." She leaned up to kiss her friend cheek as she turned him around to push him out the door. "Tell Stefan I owe him one too."
"I'll cook you guys a home cooked meal sometime next week."
"Or whenever I'm free. The shop going to be super busy."
"Bonnie!" Damon blocked himself from being pushed towards the entrance. "What happened?"
Bonnie swallowed the lump in her throat. Tears finally fell down her cheeks. The squeeze on her chest lessened but pain wrecked through her body. Her heart was steadily bleeding out as her memories of Australia flashed forward. The blue sky. The wild flowers in the open field. The smell of the sun. The softness of fur under her fingers. The feel of hot kisses on her skin. Rough hands holding hers. Glowing yellow eyes in the night then soft hazel eyes in the light when she woke up next to him. To Alexander.
Damon felt immediate anger swelling inside him. Everything clicked. Everything finally made sense. "Was it him?" He watched Bonnie blink coming out her daze. "Was it that wolf?"
Bonnie took a second to actually hear what was being said to her but she couldn't find it in herself to try. Every one of her senses were preoccupied with everything Alexander. A werewolf she met in Melbourne Australia through an witch acquaintance that was teaching her about different flower and herb her properties to use in her shop.
Alexander wasn't supposed to be a part of Bonnie's trip. Alexander wasn't supposed to be a part of her life. However, the persistent wolf visited her everyday at the flower shop she volunteered. Then they toured all over Australia during the year together taking in the known and unknown beauty of the entire continent.
Then it happened. Something blossomed. Something new. Something sweet. Something magical happened between them. It wasn't no longer Bonnie and Alexander. It was them and Bonnie missed them. She missed him. Loved him.
But everything always comes to an end. Reality sinks in. Love breaks. A year was gone.
Bonnie took a deep breath. Her body was still rattling with pain thinking about her wolf but she had to keep herself from sinking into a pit of despair...at least until she was alone.
She wrap her arms around Damon's torso and snuggled herself deep into his embrace. This was nice. Her senses were briefly clouded with Damon and she was thankful for it. She was thankful for her best friend always being there for her. However he couldn't be here for this. He couldn’t fix this for her. Not heartbreak.
The Vampire looked down at the tiny witch in front of him. He just wanted to shake her until she tells him what was going on. Now he knew who was making Bonnie cry, he just needed to know the why. Whether Bonnie told him or not he already hated the mangy wolf. He remembered briefly Bonnie mentioning a wolf she met through her witch friend but he didn't know there was feelings involved. And he certainly didn't know why balto in some way hurt his Bonnie. Whatever the reason, Damnon was already planning to fly across the ocean to hunt the dog. However that could wait for now. Now he would hold his Bon Bon.
Damon leaned down to kiss Bonnie's wet cheeks then forehead. "I love you too, Bonnie."
With that confession and a few more minutes of some good vampy hugs and kisses, Damon left Bonnie in her shop. She stared at her friend driving off through the glass door. She was alone.
Now. Now she could openly-
Bonnie felt the back of her neck stand on attention. That voice. That smell. Those eyes. Golden eyes staring back at her through the glass door. Her mouth couldn't work to call out his name, stuck in her throat but her magic and mind was screaming it.
Here standing behind her.
Here with his broad chest pressed against her open back from her floral dress.
"I was waiting for him to leave." Alexander whispered against Bonnie cheek. "And I have to say...I am a little jealous." His hands then started to caress her shoulders then down her arms. "The way he touches you. The way he looks at you." He then kissed his little witch's neck. He hummed smelling the familar scent that was Bonnie. Wild honey, lavender, and sun on her skin. He loved it. The wolf found it simply mouth watering.
Bonnie swallowed the lump in her throat finally finding her voice. "Alex...what are you doing here?"
Alexander kissed Bonnie's neck again then her shoulder. "I think what I hate the most though," he continued with his thoughts ignoring Bonnie's question. "What really makes me angry...was the fact he got to tell you the one thing I always wanted to say to you." His finger drew little circles on her neck then down to her shoulder blade. "The one thing you refuse from me..."
Bonnie could hear the anger laced in his soft spoken voice and it made her shiver deliciously. "Alex -"
"That vampire said he loved you." Alexander eyes met Bonnie's green eyes in their reflection. "Loves you..." His eyes began to glow a darker gold and his teeth began to lengthen. "Such pretty words..." He sneered.
Bonnie closed her eyes feeling Alexander wrapped his strong arms around her waist pulling her against him. His lips kissing her wet cheek then teeth nipped at them. Pain bloomed on her cheek but felt it ease as he began to kiss the pain away. She loved it.
"He loves you, he says..."
Bonnie opened her eyes and gasped at the sight. Eyes she remembered as her wolf's were no longer golden-yellow but a deep crimson red.
"I can't tell you that..."
