The busy little chart above illustrates the current position of public radio stations in Alaska.  The recommendation from the House Finance Budget Subcommittee on 2/23/16 is to eliminate State Operating Grants, quoting figures from prior years’ grants from The Corporation for Public Broadcasting to illustrate how the monies can be made up by stations.  This is a false premise.  The Corporation for Public Broadcasting requires a local match.  If stations fall below their level of Non Federally Funded Share, they no longer qualify for their CPB funds. This would mean that the station in the illustration above would lose  63% of it’s funding.  This would put the small rural stations, which are the ones most important to their communities off the air.

nprbooks - IT HAPPENED.  

Well-loved and lauded science fiction writer John Scalzi joined us last night after crashing our website yesterday afternoon.  A great crowd, a great time, and we have the photographic evidence!  We highly recommend going to see John talk if you ever get the chance.

We were also the first people to hear anything from the unreleased The End of All Things.  And it was awesome.  Beyond awesome.

P.S. When he started tipping his chair back as far as it could go, we got a little worried.
