Native American (Zuni Pueblo)
1880–92
Object Place: Zuni, New Mexico, United States
This pitcher has a bulbous body with a wide, tall pitcher/cup neck. The legs of a feline, flecked animal that forms the handle, are attached to the pitcher in two places. The flaring rim is banded inside with a wide brown band and a narrow band outside. On the neck, an open, stepped meander with three parallel lines joining top and bottom edge of each meander decorates the surface. The top of the body is twice banded with the stepped figure attached to base. The clay body is gray with ocher fire-smudges.
