NICK PRETENDING TO BE AN ALPHA!!! It’s so good please speak on that I reread that lil fic all the time ~@brentolo3
Saw this ask right before bed, so I got to think about it all night.
Personally, I find non-traditional a/b/o dynamics to be more fun. Some of my favorite omegaverse fics were "omega pretending to be beta"-coded. So when I saw (I don't remember who but it was probably you or Jaunty)'s headcanons on their second genders, it made me realize that I've never read a fic of a beta pretending to be an alpha.
And Nick is so perfect for that role.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
Even when he was a kid, Nick knew he was born to be an alpha, to be a natural leader, to take the world by storm. He wasn't gonna take shit from anybody when he grew up.
He knew that it took alphas a little longer to develop than other genders, so he bid his time as he watched other friends discover their secondaries at varied rates.
He waited.
And waited.
And waited.
At first, he thought he was just developing incredibly slow, maybe so his body wouldn't stress itself out on the incredible alpha he was going to be. He was even starting to pick up on pheromones!
So, he kept waiting, figured it would happen when it happened. He pressed forward in life, meeting some new friends online that were fun to play games with. None of them really talked about their genders or experiences until someone had to cancel a gaming session suddenly.
"Sorry guys. Can't make it. Heat started early."
As Nick sat there and stared at the message Vernias left in the group chat, he felt a pit open in his stomach. He was friends with a male omega?
The chat went silent, so Nick flung into action, making a joke about how it's for the best he's not around an alpha while in heat, even if it's just their voices. He didn't really know how bad heats got, but he knew omegas in heat could make alphas rut, so there was at least something truthful in his logic.
He saw Vernias begin typing a message, probably something sassy in return, but the typing stopped as another message popped up.
The idea of the crashers being women will not leave my brain.
Specifically, the idea of Nick having the smallest bust and being insecure about it. She swears she's at least bigger than Vernias (and also says Vern's pec muscles are cheating).
Sophist, of course, will not hesitate to tease her, her own back problems be damned.
I have been thinking about one of the prompts from the prompt lists you reblogged (‘do you trust me enough to close your eyes?’) but I never actually got around to submitting it. It could fit Clandestine or Dies Irae, honestly, but I’m always biased towards Clandestine.

GUESS WHO'S FUCKING BAAAAACK <333 ldsfkasldk while i haven't fixed my laptop, i had to get a brand new one ( which i'm getting used to but one step at a time lmao ). but yes!!
allow me to give ya something after a long wait :3c
"Oh. Hey..."
"Hey."
Pink eyes immediately darted over when his ears picked up the slightest scuff along the concrete. Upon seeing the familiar jewel embedded within the mask, those eyes widened then averted to settle on something more interesting. More distracting. That fountain had such an intricate design that Vernias couldn't help but trace the swirls and patterns that reminded him of the cosmos above.
He wondered how the celestial beings are doing...
"So... When are you heading back home?"
Vernias couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Wow, already that bad for ya that you want me gone?"
"Well, if you're gonna be like that-"
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Because!"
The angel raised a brow at him, where the regent shrugged in spite of his small outburst. "I just...wanted to know." At Vernias's silence, he elaborated. "Listen, I had to keep getting away from Brent because he kept wanting to talk about...something. I dunno what, but I didn't want to hear it. I think it was about you. Or about something else... I didn't want to hear it."
Vernias blinked, now turning to face him as his wings furled behind his back. "Didn't want to hear it? I thought you and Brent were..."
"We aren't."
Something flashed across the mage's eyes. Something stormy, but not necessarily malicious or dangerous. Vernias couldn't decipher it quick enough before it disappeared. "We aren't..." Sophist repeated in a mutter, stepping forward to join the angel at his side. He stared at the same fountain, watching the water spew out into glittering curtains that reflected beautifully in the sunlight. Even as the clouds would mask the rays, it was still a wonderful sight to behold.
"Sophist...?"
The mage didn't answer, but Vernias continued without much hesitation. "...You know I'm not mad at you. For what you did to me." He didn't respond; in fact, nothing upon his features told the other man that he even heard him. He simply continued to stare into the fountain, watching as petals from blooming flowers within the trees floated down to the water.
Crape myrtle, he noted. How poignant...
Something touched along the sleeve of his buttoned up shirt. Slightly jolting, Sophist turned to see fingers placed upon him. Touch light as a feather, they slowly dug into the soft material, which prompted the mage to peer up. Magenta met pink, both glowing of the power within them. One pure with heavenly light while the other felt electrifying even as his features remained passive, if not intrigued.
"Sophist..."
"Vern..." Please don't.
They remained that way for what felt like an eternity. The fountain's waters blissfully continued its fall with the sun still hidden behind puffy white clouds. A veil of shadow covered the courtyards yet they hardly noticed. Sophist became aware of the growing distance between each other, his lungs suddenly finding it difficult to capture air. Despite this, he didn't resist when the angel took a step closer and shifted him slightly so they are now facing each other.
The sheer difference in height was not lost on him yet he couldn't bring himself to comment as Vernias took hold of his other arm.
You want me to say sorry to him?
Why wouldn't you?
Because....I can't stand him! I just can't listen any more of his damn speeches about being friends or looking past our differences.
That's just how he is, Eevee. He wouldn't say that if you were a lost cause.
Are you suggesting that I'm not?
Well, no. You're my friend. Right...?
...Yeah. Yeah, sure.
"Didn't you hear me, Sophist? I said I'm not mad at you."
"I heard you."
Vernias's grip tightened. Somehow, the warmth felt searing as if Sophist was growing closer to touching roaring flames. His lungs expanded once...then shrank a few seconds later. Expanded, then shrank. It filled with him, then emptied without him. Shadows not caused by the clouds began to writhe and curled underneath him.
A repeat of last time. would he forgive me this time. would he believe that i'm not worth it? would this finally be it? would the punishment be the blade cutting him open for his disgusting guts to spill out or would it be those familiar lithe hands around his throat? Sparks jumped along his fingertips. The veil began to darken even more somehow.
"...Are you nervous, Sophist?"
"Why would I be?"
A strong breeze washed over them, droplets of the water creating a mist that sprayed over them. "Then why won't you listen? Why don't you believe me?" Sophist's fingers curled into fists. Those sparks grew in intensity before they disappeared. They continued to stare at each other, their surroundings melting away into a blur of colors. Then, Sophist's lips curled up in a wry smile. Something crooked and uneven.
"Do you trust me enough to close your eyes?"
Vernias blinked. His lips parted in surprise, though he didn't look taken aback from the question. Not entirely. His wings bristled, uncurling like they needed to stretch out before resting. "And if I did?" he challenged. Or...it sounded as such but there isn't really any heat or conflict behind it to find it daring. There wasn't much to believe there is any fear, either -- which made Sophist baffled.
"...What if you did." A statement repeated. Vernias blinked again before those pink eyes hid with a flutter of his lashes. Everything around them hushed. The misting fountain seemed to quiet down like it had a mind to wait for what would happen. Sophist quietly inhaled through his nose.
You know what sort of power I have, Nick.
He slowly leaned down.
I know.
Do you?
Darkness and light collided the moment their lips touched. The angel briefly stiffened before he slowly relaxed, his fingers now clutching at the mage's sleeves like he's the only connection to this mortal realm.
You're right about one thing, Vern.
Large hands would soon find their way upon Vernias's hips, neither shoving him away nor pulling him close. He wanted the angel to remain where he was. To stand there while he inhaled something more precious than the air itself. Vernias soon pressed himself up against the other, the misting water cooling the rising heat between them. The sun soon revealed itself to brighten the courtyards though they haven't particularly noticed.
Just like how they hadn't caught the shimmering orange glitter, distorting the air around it in odd ways, rushing back into the castle from where it stood from the courtyard entrance.
"So, that almost happened..." with any Sophist pairing please It's so him 🙏🙏
You are so right. That is such an Eevee thing to say LMAO oh I love him. I went for some Sophick :3 my OGs
Sophist was pretty, when he wasn’t talking at least.
It wasn’t a new observation, had been his immediate thought the first time Nick saw a picture of him: Shit, Eevee’s kind of pretty. Dimples popped out whenever he smiled wide enough, and his teeth were neat even if they weren’t quite white. His face was weirdly symmetrical, and his glasses suited him when he bothered to wear them. His facial hair was endearingly patchy. His eyes were that kind of shade where Nick could never quite figure out what color they were. Hazel, probably, a greenish brownish gray hazel. He did his best not to stare trying to figure it out. He was far too aware that at the moment, he was definitely staring, and Sophist was looking back at him with a bemused smile.
“Are you good?” Sophist asked, tipping his head to the side. Nick’s cheeks were warm from drinking, sparing him the added embarrassment of blushing before he looked away.
“Fine.”
“Okay.” He didn’t exactly hide the disbelief in his voice, but he left the topic alone, leaning back against the brick wall.
They were outside of some dive bar that Sophist liked, waiting for their Uber to arrive and take them back to his apartment. It was getting into the evening, but the air was warm and thick with humidity that made his hair cling to his skin. Everything seemed to wobble, which meant that Nick had had too much to drink. He always tended to when he was with Sophist.
“Why don’t you wear your glasses more?” Nick asked, and Sophist’s face went from light confusion to baffled.
“Why don’t you?”
“They make me look like a dork.”
Sophist waved a hand. “There you go. I’m stealing your answer.” He did a little grab, as if snatching Nick’s words out of the air, and giggles bubbled up from Nick’s chest. “Mine now.”
So Sophist was also definitely wasted.
“You already look like a dork,” Nick teased, pressing his shoulder against the wall. Sophist had slid down a few inches as he reclined, giving Nick a rare height advantage. As Sophist sputtered, he added, “Besides, they look good on you.”
He hadn’t thought it was a shocking thing to say, but Sophist looked at him like he had grown a second head. He raised his eyebrows, and Sophist raised his right back, nearly creeping into his hair line.
“You’re kidding.”
“No?” Nick frowned at him. “You look good.”
Sophist ducked his head, letting out a nervous giggle, and Nick shuffled closer while he wasn’t looking.
“You’re such a doomer, man,” he continued when Sophist made it clear he wasn’t going to respond. “I get that you hate yourself or whatever, but you gotta open your eyes at some point. You’re an attractive guy. That’s just like, a fact.”
“Fuck off.”
“I’m serious.”
“I know you’re serious-“ Sophist fell silent when he looked back up, realizing just how close Nick had crept. If he was honest, Nick hadn’t realized either until that exact moment. Their noses nearly brushed, and Nick could see every faint freckle across the bridge of Sophist’s nose. He could smell the alcohol on his breath, something that should’ve been repellent, but instead he drifted closer—
In his back pocket, his phone chirped and buzzed, and he jerked back in surprise. Sophist still hovered in the space they had shared, looking at him with wide, lost eyes.
“Uber’s almost here!” Nick said, too loud and high-pitched enough to be mortifying. Sophist nodded mutely, and Nick crossed his arms, not meeting his eye.
They were dead silent as they waited the last few minutes, the tension as uncomfortable and tangible as the humidity. He could feel the way that Sophist stared, not pulling his gaze from Nick. Stubbornly, he refused to look back, poking at his phone as the car drew closer. The driver coming to a stop up the street was a relief, and he waved Sophist along. As they walked, he could feel the drag of fingers against the back of his sleeve, and he swallowed painfully.
He held the door open for Sophist as an olive branch, giving him a tight smile as he slid into the car. Nick settled in after him, exchanging a few polite words with the driver, and they lapsed back into silence.
Sophist was looking at him again. This time, Nick peeked back, and Sophist broke.
“Sooo, that almost happened.”
“Eevee,” Nick said, rubbing his face. “I am not having this conversation in an Uber.”
“Why not? Chicago is progressive.”
The driver snorted before turning the music up a few notches. Nick felt a rush of warmth through his face and he slumped down in his seat, groaning. More pleading, he repeated, “Eevee.”
If nothing else, Sophist lowered his voice as he hissed back, “You almost kissed me! What the fuck do you want me to do? Ignore that?!”
“Yeah, kinda!” Nick whispered-shouted back, and Sophist let out a disbelieving laugh. “Sorry. It was, like, heat of the moment. The alcohol. I don’t know.”
“Heat of the moment? You insisting that I’m hot and then almost kissing me was just heat of the moment?”
“Okay, well,” Nick sputtered, “I didn’t say hot.”
“Okay, wow. Damn. Hurtful.”
Sophist didn’t sound particularly offended, but Nick still hurried to correct himself. “I mean, I think you’re more pretty.”
For the second time that night, Sophist was left speechless. In the dark backseat of the car, Nick was spared having to brace against the light gray of his eyes.
“You think I’m pretty?”
“I just said that, dumbass.”
“You’re so mean for someone who wants me,” Sophist said, giggling, and Nick scoffed.
“Who said anything about-?”
The car flashed with light as they passed under a streetlight, giving Nick a clear view of the way that Sophist grinned. It was only a brief glimpse, a second of well-aligned teeth and the dimples in his cheeks, but it was enough to steal the words from Nick’s throat. He struggled for a moment, then crossed his arms and looked out the window. Once again, pouting at his own ridiculousness, just far too aware of it now. From the continued laughter from Sophist, he was just as aware, and Nick’s shoulders crept up towards his ears.
“Okay,” Sophist said, a little too delighted. “You know you’re coming back to my apartment, right? You can’t keep ignoring me. It’s fine though. Take your time.”
“Do not reference that old joke at me.”
“Take your time,” Sophist repeated, and Nick rubbed his face. “You’re coming back to my apartment. You can’t get away from me.”
“I know, Eevee,” Nick said through a sigh.
The giggles wouldn’t stop on the opposite end of the backseat, and Nick pressed his forehead against the window, trying to cool his face. He closed his eyes, exhaling through his nose. Sophist nudged the toe of his foot against Nick’s ankle.
When choosing their own roles (for real this time), Brent chose to be a healer and Vernias chose to be wizard (support flavored), while Sophist stuck with wizard (offense) and Nick went with a fighter role. Despite being the offense members, Sophist and Nick both fled without even trying to fight, while Vernias risked himself to save Brent’s life. I don’t know exactly what point I’m making here, I’m just having thoughts
Once every few months I remember that Nick, Sophist, and Brent all just walk around without glasses or contacts or anything and I get so stressed I give myself a headache
Once every few months I remember that Nick, Sophist, and Brent all just walk around without glasses or contacts or anything and I get so stressed I give myself a headache
Do you have any random headcanons you would wanna share? I’d love to hear your thoughts :D
~ @brentolo3
hi :> i've found out that answering asks on mobile is kind of awful, and now that i've finally sat down at my computer and i get to type fast as soon as the thought starts, i cannot stop it. i am so sorry.
just as a heads up, there are some nsfw headcanons. its kind of hard not to have nsfw when all i've written about them is porn but oh well :b
(little note, any "they" you see refers to both themselves and their genderbent versions, and gender specific pronouns refer to their respective genders) (it's such a struggle to talk about them in masculine lmfao)
POLY CRASHERS
everyone is down bad for brent. that's it that's the gist of my fics
^ more on that, everyone just kind of realizes that they love brent first? or rather, that brent is the first person of the group they were romantically interested in
^ brent doesn't really choose between them though, they just kind of go "... oh. that... makes sense" one day lmao
vern is *drum rolls* the first one to suggest polyamory! its really obvious, but yeah brent is figuring stuff out, eevee is panicking about the stuff, and nick is struggling to accept their feelings so... yeah, it kind of falls on vern
i feel like they get together quicker if they're women than if they're men?? they aren't really comfortable with touch as men? but as women they're touching for no reason than the sake of it :b
they're all switches, both in top-bottom and in dom-sub dynamics. you can't convince me otherwise. there's some give and take, and most of the time it ends up with them switching around
BRENT
gay pc: aroace?? i feel that he would be maybe into women too? but it doesn't really feel right :b aroace fits best, i don't think brent would be very fond of calling himself gay
lesbian pc: aroace lesbian <333 just yeah, brent isn't the kind of gal to tolerate bullshit, and men are usually bullshit, so once she gets comfortable in her skin she'll avoid them like the plague <3 she's more comfortable with the lesbian label, its comforting to know that the whole thing with thinking she has to date men is a common experience <3 she might have a lot of comphet tho and amatonormativity is... eugh
they're probably the one who struggles with their sexuality the most :b the aroace experience is not fun, and polyamory on top of that??? yikes man i'm so sorry. polyamory is surprisingly the easy part of the entire thing
really shy at first obv but as soon as they get comfortable in themselves they go from service top to a kinda mean dom switch real fast <3
^ they still really take into account what their partners want? they're kinda mean in the sense that they'll push a little bit. and then next time you've already reached that extra but you won't notice 'cause now that's the norm, that's expected and you can do better than that baby. they'll push a little bit again :)
SOPHIST
really gay always <3 the struggle comes from religion mostly, but after that it's more of a breeze. they aren't really that phased after realizing they like their same gender!
^ girl sophist did not like the idea that she had to date men. she realizes she doesn't, and has very little comphet.
^ guy sophist on the other hand is really unsure about it? sure he'll date if a girl confesses to him, but he'd much rather spend his time with his friends, who happen to be boys and damn he sure would date them if he was a girl. bad thing he isn't! then he'll realize if there is no god he doesn't really have to follow those rules, does he?
there's a bit of a struggle with polyamory though, they'll get around don't worry about it ;) there's also a little bit of a struggle with gay sophist's gender, but he's not ready for that yet. he'll most likely repress it because he doesn't want to lose his partners :(
i can't really decide if they are the most forward when it comes to sex. like, vern is really forward, but they still have "just a little guy :))" act to keep up lmao sophist does not care. they'll want sex and they'll get it :b
really bratty switch, will push harder than brent and won't back up as easily. brent has a very easy time taming them, every one else struggles. as a dom though? they're dangerous. if anyone told me pc did fucked up sex i would expect it with sophist domming
VERN
bisexual always, yeah :b found out really easy, their struggle comes mostly from everyone else *not* being as sure?? she gets through it easier than everyone else :b
vern is probably the one who has the most similar "gender differences"??? guy vern and gal vern are the exact same person :b
the thing vern probably struggles the most with everything is that they're the Emotional Support Friend. the Therapist Friend. just, yeah, listens everyone out. do they get that in return? who cares! they're glad you're feeling better, teehee!
really subby, it's really relaxing to just give the reins to someone else and just feel good. don't get them wrong though, they can also be bratty <3 i don't know if there's a term for a bratty dom? but yeah that also makes sense in my head for them, putting pleasure just far enough away that you have to fight for it
NICK
also bisexual, but they lean more towards women?
^ for girl nick its the entire reason she's discovered she's bisexual. she might have thought that she was a lesbian and then saw some guy and just. was so annoyed about it that she tried to prove herself wrong. it did not work :b
^ for guy nick, its a similar thing with "these bozos are the first men i like" which is hilarious
struggles the most out of everyone with their feelings <3 the issue is not the fact that they're in love with multiple of their friends, but the fact that they're friends in the first place. they know how much of a loser they are, they're meant to impress the same people they're a loser with???? that's fucked up dude
^ they fall so hard though <3 nick is such a treat to write, they've got the emotional awareness of a rock <3 they all do to be fair but nick specifically gets angry about it instead of self conscious, which is fun
wants to be good <3 that's it, that's nick. will be really subby if it means they're good. nick is probably the one i would say is the least dom??? it's complicated to be dom when you wanna Be Good. they probably would be kind of degrading about it if i had to say anything, but i am unsure
i did not mean to write this much. i am again very sorry :b
