Babies and Boy Problems | Brettella
It’d been too damn long since Ella had really seriously had a sit-down chat with Brett. Of course, a lot of it was her own fault with the whole disappearing off to a desert island and the sexy pool boy that lived there. Plus with Brett’s whole thing with Toby and the new baby, well… They’d fallen a bit to the wayside. And this was a problem that Ella found herself very determined to fix.
Not that it would take much to fix, Ella thought to herself as she packed up the tray of brownies she’d just finished frosting along with Brett’s favorite kind of pickles and made a headway for her best friend’s house. She’d already called to tease Toby about how he’d certainly not be seeing his baby momma tonight as she’d insisted on an old-fashioned girls-only sleepover. (Little Susie was invited, obvi. She was, after all, Ella’s second fave Barr.) Even offered up Vic to hang out with, if Toby thought he could stand him for more than two minutes straight.
Rapping gently on the door before opening it up and stepping inside, Ella called out brightly through the house: “Hey! It’s me! I’m here!” With a practiced air, she set the food down on the counter and knelt to scratch Lucky behind the ears as he bounded up. “Hi baby! Smell Victor all over me, huh? I know you wish your buddy could come visit, but I left him with his wifey over at Hollis’ this time. You’ll get him next, I promise.”
As Brett waddled into the room, though, Ella let out a small squeal of excitement and went to hug Brett tightly. “Oh my god, you’re getting so big!” She laughed loudly. “Susie’s gonna be huge at this rate! Has she been kicking? Can I feel? God, she’s gonna be the cutest baby ever, this one. I can’t wait to pinch her precious little cheeks!” She gently put a hand on her friend’s belly, beaming like the midday sun down at the baby inside of her. “I don’t know who you’ve got lined up for godmother, but I’d probably fight them for it. Gladiator-style and everything.” Ella winked up at Brett.
"I’ve already started spoiling her anyway. I’ve got hella amounts of baby things in my bag for her and you guys. Sort of an apology, sort of a bribe to not hate me after abandoning you for two months. Which, I’m still really sorry about, by the way… It just kinda happened." She smiled sheepishly and went to grab the couple of gift bags she’d brought along as well, holding them out to Brett with a flair. "So please! Accept my guilt-fueled baby shopping gifts, from me to you!"
"Okay, babe," Brett smiled into her phone, practically rolling herself off of the bed and waddling into the closet, "See you tonight, I love you!" She hung up the phone and placed it on the shelf before reaching up and grabbing one of her dresses. She paused to pout at her designer dresses from before she was pregnant. Brett let out a wistful sigh and reached out to run her fingers over them, "One day soon, babies." Begrudgingly, she pulled on one of the maternity dresses and then rubbed her baby bump, gazing down at it as she smiled a bit, "Better be glad I love you, Susie Lou, or else I'd be really resentful of the fact that you make me unable to wear my precious dresses."
She glanced over at the clock on the table beside hers and Toby's bed before looking over at the bed itself where Lucky and Lou were curled up together, "I swear you two are just like your daddy. Gay for someone who's supposed to be family." They both tilted their head at her and she scratched between their ears before jumping down at the sound of a knock on the door.
Brett couldn't help the smile that lit her face as Ella came and hugged her tightly. If ever something were to happen to Toby and the fifteen guys that Ella was dating, Brett was pretty sure she'd marry Ella. Oh god, the Belfronts were rubbing off on her, she was spending time seriously considering who of the same sex she should be with. "Yeah, she's been kicking, there was no chance she wouldn't. Toby and I are both whirlwinds in bed. I swear I'm surprised I'm not bruised with how she kicks."
She then gazed with raised brows at the bags that Ella held out to her. "Oh, Ella... You didn't have to do that. There's no need to apologize. You took a vacation! If I could fly at this point, I probably would too. Actually... That's a lie. I'd end up doing the same thing there that I do here. Sit and complain about my back hurting." She laughed warmly before going to sit down on the couch. "I'm just grateful that Toby dotes on me." She looked up to Ella and then blanched a little, "Oh, do you want something to drink?" Brett shuffled a little to try and get up. She then looked sheepishly at Ella, "Or I could sit here and open your presents and listen to you tell me about your trip??"
