Wednesday 12th
Tomorrow we've got Nicola Stephenson from The Culture Company joining us, and also the Lionel Dobie Project Space from Manchester for an informal discussion in the Broadcast Leeds space 12pm. All Welcome!
After lunch Ryan Long is leading us on a walk to Kirkgate Market which he has specially designed for Broadcast Leeds. At Kirkgate Market there will be a number of demonstrations by different traders. Meet at 1.30 at Broadcasting Place.
Katy and Jen, students from graphics, installed their 'It'll all come out in the wash' washing line in our space today and asked visitors to answer thought provoking questions and attach them to the line in return for a Guatemalan worry doll. It fluttered in the fierce winds, but was a fantastic addition to the space!
Conway + Young's Utopias and Dystopias in the workplace workshop. We talked about the values and rights that we would aim for in our workplace utopia and created out own workplace manifesto's.
Here's some photos from Dean Cuffey's Caribbean cooking workshop last night, what an amazing turn out! Please upload your photos from the evening to our facebook, or to Dean's facebook page.
Pam Warhurst gave an inspirational talk about Incredible Edible and inspired an impromptu meeting of minds about the beginning of the Leeds Edible Campus project. We begin this Saturday by planting the remaining plants left over from the project into beds in front of cafes and local businesses around Broadcasting Place.
The start of something brilliant, a conversation between Marks and Spencer archive, and Leeds Met students. Sarah led the session, which was an open discussion and presentations that the students came up with after their visit to the archive.
Our dreamy sunday events, YSP's Dream Booth appeared featuring the amazing John Welding. Ryan Thompson performed his 'Bedtime Stories (Reprise)' originally featured at Vantage Art Prize, and Kerry and Charlotte led a recycled sketchbook making project. Such a brilliant sunny day at Broadcast Leeds.
Prop making on saturday, entertained the younger audiences. Some brilliant small people, and bigger people made these pirate-related props.
Check out some of the photos from opening night on Friday, such a massive turn out, almost 3000 people came to see the degree shows and witness the amazing music from Jordan Hodson, George and the Dragon and Clea Knight. We also had Henry Cryer on hand to do some broadcasting with his bellowing voice for us. A big congrats to all the exhibiting students and a big THANK YOU to all our performers. Fantastic Night!
Way finding, the space, enjoying the sun in snazzy shades and shameless press shot.
Another picture from the M&S archive. Marks and Spencer leading the way in the coiffuring! Collaboration between students and the archive is being shown and open to discussion on Monday 10th June 12pm.
Old/retro tin can label for a St Michaels fruit salad at the M&S Archive. Making me feel more summery and cheerful. It was a good visit let the collaboration commence, see the results on Monday 10th June 12pm.
The archive will also be bringing some old articles and food labels for your perusal.
A unique installation is created in the Broadcast Leeds space. Katy Knowles and Jen Clegg are asking members of the public to respond anonymously to a set of questions.
Inspired by getting to know your neighbours over the garden wall, this interactive piece will be a continually developing installation.
Bedtime Story (Reprise)
Ryan Thompson invites you to take part in his performance Bedtime Story (Reprise), one which he performed when nominated for Vantage Art Prize.
"Bedtime Story is an interactive performance, inspired by parents reading bedtime stories to their children, where the performer invites the audience to read them a story."
Tuesday 11th 12noon.
Hide and Seek
Hayley Burke is leading a giant game of hide and seek. Tuesday 11th at 2pm. Meet at the Broadcast Leeds space (Broadcasting Place, Woodhouse Lane) and walk up to the park at Leeds University. We've tried and tested this park, it has amazing hiding places! Indulge in your childhood and play!
