From time immemorial this debate has been going on that what should we eat to keep ourselves healthy and have a disease free body. Our grandfather’s and great grand father’s lived a very disciplined lifestyle to ensure that they remain healthy as much as possible. Infact my grandfather lived till the age of 75 and only in the last 2 years of his life, he developed high blood pressure and finally started taking allopathic drugs. All his life, he used to believe only in ayurvedic system of treatment, yoga, simple vegetarian diet and adequate rest.
So now the question is when you have so many choices to eat, doctor available for almost every human organ, investigation s can be done for almost anything, mortality rate has come down, super speciality hospitals are there at almost every nook and corner of the city, people are still suffering. Kids are suffering from diseases like obesity, diabetes etc which was not so prevalent in earlier times. Unfortunately, lot of these changes started coming in when we started to copy the west indiscriminately. In India, we never had the culture of “heat it, eat it”. It’s an American culture which slowly made its way into India. That’s why in America, medical is an industry, it’s not about health anymore. Pizzas and burgers were never a staple diet in the Indian culture. Kids got the flavour of them and hence problems like obesity, diabetes etc came up.
So the question now is what should actually one eat? I have also gone through this entire trauma and all kinds of experiments where your nutritionist thinks she is is the best person to tell you what to eat, your doctor thinks thinks he is the best, so on and so forth. In the end, you are still struggling either with weight issues or stomach issues. Finally I decided to take charge myself and thought since it’s it’s my body let me observe and listen to it carefully what it is accepting and what it’s not. The tongue has its own choices but the body will repel so I decided to listen to my body. Since I have been on medication for a very long time, first I had to reduce intake my antacids. Prolonged use of antacids affect the natural production of acid in the stomach so slowly I started cutting down on my antacids and at the same time minimised the use of oil and spices to strengthen my digestive system. My target was that my food should get digested within 1-2 hrs of my eating. Next, I stopped all flour products so no biscuits, bread or rusk. Flour has one very bad quality that it sticks to your intestine walls which in the long run can cause damage. Third, I gave up non veg completely. Precisely because it takes plenty of time to digest non veg food.
So, I categorised food items into three categories: acidic, precooked and predigested, heavy duty
