Through the grand city of Canterlot flowed the steady beat and melody of music. The evening was on it’s first legs, and a steady stream of ponies slowly strolled through the streets, all heading towards the picture perfect gardens of the royal castle. The guests, ponies of all kind from all over Equestria, were all dressed finely in their best formal wear.

The gardens spanned a large area with beautiful hedges surrounding the area and dividing the land into sections, originally serving to display pristine monuments, statues, fountains and flower arrangements. But tonight, they served as dance floors, bars and lounge areas. Ornate gazebos had been constructed for the guests and in the centre, a large dance floor where both bands and DJs were stood around a small stage, ready to take their turn to entertain the party goers.

With the slowly dimming daylight came the lighting of fires around the gardens, flames of all different colours licked upwards from the braziers. A constant vibe of excitement filled the air as the guests continued to arrive and join the festivities. As the music changed from song to song, as did the dances that filled the grounds. From slow music, where couples enjoyed each other’s company and slowly went through the steps of dances that flowed with the music, to more upbeat music where everyone joined in and danced their hearts out.

Though for almost all, the nights of this party would be a break from their regular routine, and give them the joy and fun that came with such a magnificent experience, an underlying thought could not be shaken from a certain stallion’s mind. Perhaps the prom is more than just fun and a chance to have fun with and show affections of all kind for each other, but rather a beautiful collective of ponies of all kinds coming together to share in something they can all appreciate.

((Mod: A little thing I wrote on how I thought the prom might be like. I am unsure about posting any character based stories just yet, partly because of a lack of confidence. Anyway, really looking forward to seeing all the artwork for the @annualponyprom !! ))
