Dakota: Those movies were my fucking childhood. I mean, I'm already pumped for this show. But watching the movies again in all their original campy glory would just make me EXTRA PUMPED!!!!👍👍

Calvin: RIGHT? That's what I was saying! The nostalgia factor. Some of your costars would rather not mentally compare themselves to the film which is valid, but you don't really have to worry about that so I'm glad to have you on my team with this!

Dylan: I say that's a terrible idea. No offense, Mr. Abbott. But I know personally, I'd prefer my performance to be entirely removed from Vanessa Hudgens's and having the movies so fresh in my mind will absolutely hinder it. I'm sure there are others in our cast that would feel the same way I do.

Calvin: Ugh, I love your dedication, kid! It's why I cast you. I already put in the request to Riley but if she chooses it and you want to preserve your technique, you and any cast members who feel the same can have your own little movie night somewhere!

What (and/or who) are you leaving behind this summer? What does your home life look like away from Shining Stars?

I’ve already been away from my apartment in the city for the better part of a year while on tour, but I do go back on weekends since it’s only a three-hour drive away. So I’m not really leaving much behind. During the week, I stay in an AirBnB in Saratoga. 

Who’s in your family, your friend group, etc. ?

Well, my family is back in Florida in my hometown of Jacksonville. But my mother and father are sweet and old and retired. My dog, Tails McWaggerton started staying with them while I went on tour and now while I’m here. He’s having a grand ole time staying with grandma and grandpa. As for friends, my touring cast of Waitress are all people I had to leave behind to come here, and I’ll miss them for sure. 

What will you miss the most?

I think I’ll miss being on stage! It’s cliche, but this is my first time behind the scenes of a show -- it’s my directorial debut. And coming out of my comfort zone in that way makes me want to just go back to what I know. But I can’t do that, because directing has always been a dream of mine.

If you’d have asked me ten years ago, I’d have laughed in your face and let you know right away that I’m definitely more of a Finn. But now that I’m an adult, and I have the opportunity to be a role model to these kids...I’d say that I’m learning a little bit from him. Though I will never ever rap. You’re welcome.

Why would I think that would happen? She’s my assistant, we’ve gotta keep it professional. If there are any rumors circulating about our professionalism, this is me putting an end to those right now.

For someone so young, she’s so professional! I’m enjoying having her as my assistant. Her opinions are always valued and she’s never afraid to speak her mind. Love having that on my team.

Do you mean like....literally kick? Like, physically? I can’t do that. I’d get fired instantly, come on. If you mean drop from my show, we’ve only had rehearsals for a week and a half. It’s impossible to tell if I regret casting anyone yet.

Not at all! This is just a voluntary break from the stage. I just got off of a national tour of one of the biggest shows in the country. And that Tony I lost? My first nomination ever. How could one be washed up when their career is just beginning?

No rest, and no escape, Victor thought. But the idea of having a sanctuary of quiet outside of his cabin sounded like it would be helpful, so he supposed it was worth it to stay friendly. He had his cabin, sure, but based on his few interactions he had had with his roommate, there was a chance it wouldn’t be much quieter or relaxing than spending time with the campers.

“I might just take you up on that. Um. Thanks.”

“No problem! I’m the guy you can come to for anything -- naps in my office, girl advice or hey! Guy advice! Do you. And if you ever just need anyone to talk to, I’m right here.” Cal put a hand on Victor’s shoulder and grinned.
