When traveling to Mexico with children, the first step is to plan ahead. Before booking, make sure the hotel is child-friendly, has activities, and is located near a beach or city. Many non-beachfront hotels provide complimentary beach clubs. Check the beach club's transportation alternatives, as well as the departure and return times.
Trip preparation
After you’ve confirmed your hotel reservation, it’s time to start getting your bags ready! Pack all the essentials you will want for your time in Mexico! If your kids can express themselves, let them join in on packing their own bags! They are probably going to be super excited about the upcoming adventure! Do not forget to pack their luggage with cozy pajamas, comfy underwear, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a bathing suit, shoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, and some casual clothing like shorts, t-shirts, jeans, blouses, or light shirts that are perfect for the warm tropical weather. Do not forget to pack your child's special toy or Teddy Bear if they usually sleep with it! If they do not take care of this, it could lead to a bit of a tricky situation, making it harder for them to fully enjoy their holiday. The Caribbean is usually warm, with December to early March bringing mild lows of around 16°C. Thus, a light sweater is recommended.
Medication Tips
If the child requires any specific medication, attempt to pack the necessary doses for the duration of the trip. If you don't have enough medication, purchase the necessary doses before your travel. In Mexico, pediatric drugs for colds, coughs, and gastrointestinal disorders are readily available without a prescription. However, any form of antibiotic or controlled drug cannot be obtained without a prescription. Forgot the medication? Bring the name and consult a local doctor for a prescription.
Tips for the trip
After you've handled the preceding points, the following stage is to plan activities for the children during the trip. Include toys, storybooks, coloring books, or select an age-appropriate movie or animated series for them to watch on an electronic device.
Items for the Beach
Sunscreen and bug repellent are important for tropical vacations, but purchasing them in your city necessitates checked baggage. If they exceed the maximum size allowed at airport security checkpoints, they may be confiscated. Avoid transporting them in carry-on luggage or children's backpacks.
If you forget to bring these items, don’t worry! You can easily find these goods in Cancun or the Riviera Maya. Choose biodegradable sunscreens and repellents that keep your children safe. Here's a tip: Buy these products at a convenience store, pharmacy, or supermarket to save money, rather than purchasing them at your hotel or a shopping mall. These stores also provide beach things for children's pleasure, such as floats, balls, sand toys, and swimming goggles.
Transportation to the Hotel or Airport
If your holiday package includes transportation from the airport to your hotel, make sure to make your reservation in advance. They may only include arrival service; confirm in advance and plan accordingly. If transport isn't included, arrange it locally with a company like Van Travel. You can travel with confidence because they will take care of your ground transportation from and to the Cancun International Airport. If your children need travel seats, please specify this when making your reservation to ensure their safety.
Activities for Kids
If the youngsters tire of the beach after a few days and want a change, Cancun offers several great options. They can enjoy visiting the Cancun Planetarium, exploring Kabah Park, or shopping at outlets in the hotel zone and downtown Cancun. Paid theme parks like Xcaret and Xel-Ha, the Aquarium at Plaza La Isla, and hotels offering day passes like Nickelodeon and Ventura Park also provide great options.
Essential Do's and Don'ts for a Safe and Enjoyable Trip
We highly advise avoiding visiting archaeological sites or museums when traveling to Mexico with children. Youngsters under eight may not understand what they see, dislike the trip, or grow bored within minutes, leading to tantrums or whining to leave. This activity exposes kids to light, heat, and, seasonally, mosquitos.
Ensure your children join hotel-organized activities. Many hotels offer wonderful kids' clubs with safe, engaging activities. This way, they'll be tired and ready for bed at night, excited for the next day's adventure.
Parents Relax Time
Now it is the parents' turn. At the end of the day, they might want to go out with their partner to a lobby bar, nightclub, or romantic restaurant. Many hotels provide babysitting services. Perhaps they will consider using this choice to relax and enjoy their vacation, since it is also theirs.
