Under what circumstances is it okay for a friend to date another friend’s ex?
“Are you asking for yourself or for a ‘friend?’ I dunno, really. There’s this brilliant thing called communication, and if your friend is a good mate, you’ll be able to talk it through. Feelings are a complicated mess, but you can’t really help who you love, you know? Official answer: it’s a case by case basis.”
Thoughts on the other Quidditch teams?
“I don’t think you’ve prepared yourself for this, but I have. It’s sort of my job to think about the other teams, yeah? As per usual, Slytherin’s decided brawn over brains is the way to it – so they’ve got themselves a particularly brutal team this year. I’m not too worried about it; they’ll probably piss themselves when they see our skill on the pitch. Hufflepuffs, my sweet darling badgers, are always good, but good doesn’t win a Quidditch match. Ravenclaw’s always been a bit tricky, because if there’s one thing they’re good at, it’s strategy. Should be an interesting year, to say the least – but Gryffindor’s still going to come out on top.”
If you could go back in time and fix any past mistakes, would you?
“Naw, why bother with it? Then I’d probably have a whole new set of problems, and could you imagine how bloody exhausting that would be? I think I’ll stick with the set I’ve got now, thanks.”

The stage was set; the actors were all in place. All James had to do was wait for the signal, and he was back to doing what he was best at -- finding holes in the world that he could slip through. All he needed was a quick glance at the map to tell him all he needed know, but he kept his cloak tucked beneath his arm. ( It was the one thing he was overly protective of. ) A nod at Sirius, a deep breath, a glance at the blazing determination on his fellow students, and he had all the courage he needed.
And just like that, they were off.
James led the group in the front, although he was far from the leader of the little band. There was very little thought to their plan; their goal was as simple as it could be. All they had to do was find Rosmerta. He kept his face stony, with the occasional flash of a reassuring smile directed towards the others, but inside, his heart raged against the darkness pressing in on them. Locked away in the safety of the castle, he felt useless, but out here, doing something, he felt as if this war might turn -- if only slightly. But what was victory in war but a collection of small battles?
He knew they would find Rosmerta, because he had to hold onto that certainty with everything he was. If he lost it, he would lose himself. ( With a stolen glance at Lily, he knew she would feel the same. ) There was a lot to think about and endless paths to consider, but he shoved all of those worries aside. Walking through the tunnel towards Hogsmeade, there was only this moment, and it would define them all.

“Oi, talk about good questions. Let’s see… From Gryffindor, it would have to be Lils – and no, I’m not just saying this because I’m biased. She’s just, you know, brave and caring and I wish I was more like her and brilliant, and that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? It’s about being courageous when sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is look past differences and extend a hand in friendship. Shit, when did I get so poetic?” He scratched at his chin as he continued to ponder the question, smile turning slightly sheepish. “From Hufflepuff, I’d be punched if I didn’t say Rosmerta. She isn’t all sunshine and daisies, which I think is what most people consider Hufflepuffs. She’d murder a man if he hurt her friends, but I think she’d also forgive him if that’s what it took. I dunno. I look at her, and I can’t imagine her anywhere else.”
“Now, the other two are a bit more difficult. From Ravenclaw, I’m inclined to say Fabian, mostly because he’s so fab – but that’s pretty much my only reason. From Slytherin, my treacherous little snakes, I’m going to have to say good ole Snape himself. He embodies all those shitty things that make the rest of the school wary of the house. He’s sneaky and clever ( which, yes, even I can admit ) and a purist through and through. All those reasons I can’t stand the bloody idiot are the same reason he fits in so well with green.”
What is the difference between a good friend and a best friend? And can you fuck them at the same time?
“I don’t know what you do with your friends, but just because I profuse my love for my mates at every term and just because I’ve already agreed to marry each and every one of them doesn’t mean we’re going to be fucking any time soon. At least get a ring on me first.”

“The squid, of course. I just know we’d be best friends, if only he stopped fighting the chemistry we’ve got. I wish Emma would stop rolling her eyes at me for a moment, so we could either be proper enemies or proper friends. Maybe Sybil lastly? I doubt we’d get along, but she’d be a riot at parties.”
Do you have any body modifications?
“Body modifications? Way to make me sound like some sort of extraterrestrial or something. This – ” He gestures to his body, grin broadening at the movement. “ – is all natural, I assure you. Granted, I’ve got a tattoo on my shoulder blade of the antlers of a stag, but that’s sort of an inside joke with the gang.”
Are your parents happily married? Do you think they'll stay that way forever?
“’Course they are! Now, they refuse to tell me the exact nature of their proposal – they change it up every time I ask – but the look they give each other makes me want to ralph, which means it’s the In-Every-Universe-We-Make-Up-We’re-In-Love look. Disgusting.” He shuddered, thoroughly dramatic in the gesture. “Lately though, Dad’s been sickly, so Mum’s been worried, but I like to think they’ve gotten their happily ever after. Obviously, it won’t last forever, but it’ll last ‘em long enough.”
Do you have a “type”?
“Red head! Wait, no – blonde! Is this a trick question?”
He cleared his throat, slipping into his preposterously serious voice. “Demoting people to types is shallow, and I simply won’t participate in such folly.”

If there’s one thing that Lily could say for herself, it was that she had a spectacular control of her outward emotions. She’d proven so time and time again for years that - but she was thinking now that it was simply because she’d never actually been given a reason to really put that control to the test. She’d felt sadness and betrayal and fear and joy, but panic - panic was new. Panic amplified everything - anger and fear had never been such close bedfellows, and she could feel them bubbling inside her from the moment the alarms started to sound and they were herded from Hogsmeade back to the castle.
And Rosmerta wasn’t there.
Lily was desperate by the time everyone was gathered into the Great Hall, and she realised that Rose wasn’t just lost in the crowd - she was missing, gone. Lily’s heart was pounding in her chest, her hands were shaking, and she felt her face heating in panic. Everything was chaotic in the Great Hall, people talking to each other, shouting across to friends, trying to figure out what was going on, and anyone she tried to talk to gave her the same confused and concerned look - but no one had any answers, no solutions, just questions.
Lily wanted to scream at every single one of them - what questions could they possibly ask? Isn’t it obvious? There was an attack on a muggle village because Voldemort and his Death Eaters want muggles and anyone that has anything to do with them DEAD, and now a student is missing, now Rose is missing,and all you people are doing is standing around asking stupid questions instead of doing something about it!
Finally, Lily snapped, and her hysteria broke lose, finally tearing out of her throat.
❝W h a t are we doing here, standing around, has no one noticed that my best friend is missing, and all of you are acting like everything is just fine? Is no one going to do anything to find her, or should I do it myself?!❞
In the sight of panic, James had a short checklist he went off one by one: the Marauders, Lily, the first years, Lily, the Quidditch team, Marlene, Rosmerta and finally, the rest of the Gryffindors. He darted through the crowd, picking out each of them with his wand already gripped tightly in his hands. He wasn't going to just sit here, but the school didn't need Brash and Stupid James Potter; it needed the Head Boy. It needed him to think before he acted, and he forced himself to take a deep breath as he searched out his Head Girl.
But then he saw her -- Lily Evans, panicking -- and his eyes grew wide. He shoved his way over to her, taking her hand in his own and pulling her away from the staring students. For the first time in what seemed like a long time, there was no hint of a smile on his face. Whether he recognized it or not, he was grabbing hard onto the title of leader Dumbledore had given him.
"Lily," he murmured, for even his voice was soft as he tried to reach through to her. Giving her hand a gentle squeeze of reassurance, he met her gaze, allowing her to see the determination burning there. "I need you here with me, yeah? I need you to focus and to calm yourself. Look, I know a way out of here, but we also need to make sure these kids are safe. I'm leaving this choice in your hands, to stay or to go find her ourselves, but either way, I'm staying with you."

Remus took the hit of the pillow with ease and quickly grinned at James’ excuses. Sometimes he wished James would just admit that he wasn’t the great woman-whisperer he claimed to be. “Well, you know when I said I had to go to prefect duties with her on Thursday nights last year?” Remus’ smile stayed plastered on his face, but his arms raised up to protect himself from any impending attacks. “Let’s just say what we were doing wasn’t prefect-y at all.” His eyes stayed on James the whole time he spoke, his gaze only moving afterwards as he ducked his head, knowing a push or a shake was inevitable.
As much as Remus joked, none of it was true. Lily was just a friend. She was the only friend outside of the Marauders who knew of his secret, actually. She had figured it out near the end of fifth year. Not only did they have nearly a year’s worth of patrol together under their belt, but they were also potions partners, after Sirius decided he wanted to be partners with some bird in the beginning of the year. They had grown close, but becoming more than that never seemed to be on the table. If fact, Lily would often vent her boy troubles to Remus. He was never very good at any kind of advice for those matters, but he tried his best to give her the insight she so desired.
James stared and stared and stared and stared at Remus, an array of emotions flickering on his face. It must have been a lot like watching the performance of a bad play: you weren't really quite sure what you were getting, but you were getting a lot of it. Finally, he burst into laughter, falling beside Remus on the bed once more. "Liar," he finally said, the firm tone of his voice saying all it needed to say. "Even if you, Lily, and me were the last people on Earth, I'd trust you not to run off with the woman of my dreams without at least some discussion first."
He let out a sort of dreamy sigh, curling up beside Remus as if he was some sort of weirdly shaped, over sized dog. "I'm glad she has a friend like you. Hell, I'm glad I have a friend like you, even if you're a royal prat -- at least you're our royal prat, and I wouldn't trade you for another fluffy soul." He stayed on the bed for several moments, eyes fluttered closed as if he had drifted off to sleep. Finally, however, he rubbed his knuckles against his lids and pulled himself up once more. "Now give Papa Potter a kiss on the cheek before he goes, mate. I've got duty tonight, and I'd hate to be late."
