The Last Kingdom Fandom on Tumblr
I have posted this before, and I am going to post this again. And again. Until the right people see this and understand what I am trying to say.
Almost every week I see people complaining in the tags about The Last Kingdom fandom being dead. I have no idea if they are trolling, or genuine, but always they are accounts I have never seen before in my life, and when I reply to them they ignore me. So I have no idea what is going on, but...
THE TLK FANDOM IS NOT DEAD!!!
It may not be as active as it was when the show was airing, and many of the original posters in the fandom have moved onto other things, but not all! It has always been a small fandom, and nothing has really changed. There are new people joining the fandom literally every day to take the places of those who have left. There are a devoted group of people who post very frequently; I myself post at least once a day! If you look at the main tag for the tv series you will see new posts constantly! So, no WE ARE NOT DEAD! We are all very much here and very much ACTIVE!
Rather than COMPLAIN about the fandom being dead, there are things you can do!!
You can write your own fic, make your own fanart, edits, videos, gifs, and all sorts of other things. But there is one thing that you can do that will matter more than anything:
>>> REBLOG!! <<<
Yes! Reblog all those posts you see in the tag! And in the TLK KingdomSource Source Blog! And in the Community!
Even if you are not able to create your own original works, reblogging other people's creation is what will keep the fandom alive! Do you know why??? Because no one likes posting into a void!! Reblogging is the ONLY way other people will see these posts. (Unless you hang out in the tags like me). But these make the posts more visible to more people, AND it shows the creators of these fics/gifs/fanarts that you appreciate their work!
It is the least you can do to keep the fandom alive. Stop complaining, start reblogging! Start in the tag and the source blog and reblog posts you see! Follow the active creators here. Join the community. Reblog your mutual's creations! The fanfics, fanart, and gifs that they spent HOURS AND DAYS AND WEEKS AND MONTHS making!!!
This fandom simply DOES NOT WORK unless people reblog stuff! Tumblr is designed to reblog stuff! Your personal blogs, fandom blogs, whatever! Just reblog PLEASE!
Here’s one for any new/existing Skorpa enthusiasts (disclaimer: yes, I know he’s overwhelming reviled in the fandom, for good reason, but I’m the weirdo who finds him as a fictional character attractive despite this).
Due to the dearth of Viking Rob Zombie (credit to whoever coined that moniker) fics, I’m writing my own. That is, I’m writing an ‘unconventional’ take on one—a mixture of detailed plot outline and actual fic parts. I’m not good at writing fics; I tend to get stuck on arbitrary non-smutty details and find myself unable to surpass them, which leads me to abandon the fic before the dirty parts. Ergo, if I leave those details as plot outline rather than prose, at least the smutty parts get written (let’s face it, that’s what most people are here for, right?). So…
I’m aware I’ve put altogether too much thought into a story, or simply a story idea, that maybe a handful of people will ever read, much less care about. But it is what it is.
I think it’s safe to say our bitey lad was pretty ruthless, viewing everyone as expendable unless they were useful to him in some way. It’s unclear whether his war band were loyal to him or purely mercenary, and how invested he was in their wellbeing beyond whether they were healthy enough and willing to fight on his side. I would, however, like to think there was a camaraderie between them in general, albeit a superficial one, as long as their allegiance remained.
I’d like to think his approach to women was similar: he wouldn’t harm them if they were useful, or at least inconsequential, to him. Disposing of them notwithstanding, he doesn’t exactly strike me as the monogamous type. So, I was trying to envision a fleet of unicorns scenario wherein he’d not only not want to end a woman, but keep her around, and be satisfied with monogamy. Don’t get me wrong, it wouldn’t be a warm and tender love story—if he were to be faithful to one woman it would be because one particular aspect of it was amazing, and that’s what the relationship would revolve around.
Unlikely there’ll be many takers, but I’m writing it regardless.
Well, he likes to keep his teeth, beard and hands nice and bloody, preferably by going feral on the battlefield, so it’s not a stretch to imagine he could be into biting and blood-letting elsewhere too. What if fates aligned and brought him into contact with a Saxon woman who shared his kink, as the masochist to his sadist? Having never met anyone who enjoys being biten and having their blood drawn, he’d be riding high on that thrill for a good while.
So, that’s the premise.
