To a degree it was painful to watch Cordelia at parties. Stahl wanted to interject so many times, wanted to approach the Pegasus Knight and tell her to enjoy herself, to not mind what others were thinking of her for once. Stahl could only imagine what kind of pressure was on her shoulders, he wanted to lift some of it and ease her burden, but how? How was he supposed to do anything when he was clearly invisible outside of the battlefield? An average man like him had limited powers, and his best efforts weren’t enough to let a smile appear on Cordelia’s face.
However, times changed. Their relationship was different now, it was like a dream come true, just that reality was sweeter than any dream or any candy in this world could ever be. Tonight would be different, tonight none of his efforts would be in vain!
Tonight, none of them would have to even try. In a way, that is. They just had to be themselves, enjoy each other’s company and relax for once. There was no war that lingered in the back of their minds, no people to please, no prince or knights to be chased, it was just them and that was more than enough. Stahl’s heart already skipped huge beats, he really hoped the ball’s music would drown it’s loud beats. Geez, how embassing.
”Oh, these rascals.” He chuckled, her touch sending shivers down his spine. "I pray they’ll know their place. At least for a few minutes." Concentrating on your own appearance was very tough, when you were fully enchanted by someone else’s. Luckily, there were no magicians able to read his thoughts around, nobody was allowed to catch up on Stahl’s “teenager having his first crush”-thoughts.
The cavalier nodded in agreement. "Then I am confident that this will be a splendid evening. I have no doubt that this chance will go to waste and I am happy we were granted with it. Thank you already, Cordelia. This night means a lot to me." His chest swell with pride and joy, slow steps got them closer to the entrance. "I will try my best to not do."
She was absolutely right about that. It amazed him, actually, that his feet didn’t hurt after all that secret practice. Tomorrow they could fall off for all he cared.
The few minutes it took to get to the entrance and gain approval to get in passed by in a flash. Pleasant music reminding him of Ylisse filled the room, the few people he knew and caught a glimpse of seemed to be having fun. There was also a huge buffet, Stahl mentally scolding his stomach for already demanding to be filled.
Carefully, Stahl let go of Cordelia, bowed and offered his wife a hand. "May I have this dance?"
