Chandler was just glad to be back in Los Angeles. The weather was nicer, the substance abusers were children instead of adults, and the drug dealers weren’t sociopaths who were out to get him and his boyfriend and make their lives a living hell. The Midwest was even worse than it had been when Chandler fled to boarding school more than a year ago. He’d been told some very shocking secrets in Michigan, and they’d almost cost him and Julian everything a second time. Yet suddenly they were home, like nothing ever happened...minus the fact it, of course, had happened. 

When Faye asked to hang out, Chandler eagerly agreed. He needed to get his mind off of everything and he hadn’t seen his friend since she suddenly took off a few months earlier. So after setting his nearly finished homework to the side, he packed his school bag with a bottle of vodka and headed to Faye’s room. He got there and knocked on the door. “Pizza delivery, don’t flash me your boobs.” He shouted through the door.

more than six feet was crouched down under the square windowed view of the guidance advisor’s office to ensure he wasn’t seen. with a screwdriver in one hand messing around with a few locks and knobs, ryder had a plan to continue his random reckless behavior - his way of somehow letting out the disappointment and anger felt, expressing his careless ‘so fucking what’ attitude. that office carried a scene of a series of lectures to the boy, the most recent being how unfortunate it was for his potential and work to be lost, unable to apply to university and unable to leave this wretched city due to events he refused to explain. “yo— let me know if someone’s coming,” he murmured to the knees that were at his eye level after hearing footsteps nearby. ryder continued his plan of locking the advisor inside her small office, probably ending the prank with a stink bomb rolled underneath the door crack.

chandler really hadn’t meant to get into any trouble. in the urgency of getting back to michigan last week, he hadn’t thought to tell the school he was leaving town at all. after all, his parents knew so why did he have to tell the school? he wondered if that was one of those things that parents were supposed to do, but it fell on him to do it in their mental absence. no matter who it had fallen on, though, he hadn’t known to do it and so he was greeted to his return to school with a visit to the principal’s office to clear up the entire misunderstanding. a short phone call home and a lecture about how the school needed to know where its students were later, chandler was leaving the office on his way back to class. but he didn’t get very far, only walking past the guidance office, when he was stopped by....a kid who was usually violent towards him. great, that was what he needed right now. he thought the other kid was breaking into the guidance office, not breaking the lock so the woman was stuck in there, so he crouched down out of sight of the window next to ryder. “why should I help you?” chandler asked bluntly. he’d woken up at what was essentially three in the morning local time so he could catch a plane, come back, unpack, go to lunch and then go to class. he wasn’t in the mood for ryder’s shit.
