Charlie was in London. He didn't visit the city often, but Marcus said he wanted him to meet someone "from their world" so now he sat at one of London's cafes at 10 am on Saturday. Older Avatar didn't even have enough decency to tell him the name of the person he would be seeing just told him to wear the sweater with clouds on it, because it was what he told that person to look for. Not that Charlie didn't understand the reasons of its friend, having someone who was knowledgeable of Fears in its corner would be useful but it didn't understand why it couldn't continue to use its strategy of keeping under the radar and not engaging with the fear community as Marcus liked to call it. So now the young man was sitting in the cafe drinking hot chocolate and watching the doors.
The door opened, and in walked a woman wearing a very dull brown green coat, she stood around for a while before eventually walking in Charlie's direction, her long hair lightly swishing with each step, she stopped and looked around as if trying to make a decision about something before eventually sitting across from it.
"Hey. It's nice to meet you. My name's Charlie." Charlie said when the woman sat down.

On a gloomy day Oliver sits at the shop, sipping his tea as he waits for a customer. That would finally give him a chance to do his job and break the monotony of the gray day.
The magic shop is tucked away in the corner of a side street, with a sign reading "Crystals, tarot & more" over the entrance. The inside is full of tables and bookshelves, holding crystal chunks, jewelry and incense.
Oliver looks up as the front door opens, putting on his customer service smile. "Welcome. How can I help you?"
A young man around late teens early twenties stands in the door, with messy brown hair and eyes too blue to be natural enters the shop. "Good day. Do you sell.. good health charms? Preferably under twenty pounds"
"Quite a few, yes." Oliver steps out from behind the register, heading to one of the tables. "We have omamori, and some jade talismans... is there something specific you need?"
"I.. don't really know. I'm not into this stuff. It's a gift for my cousin. His girlfriend is having a baby soon and I wanted to give him a gift. They both believe in crystals so I thought it would be fitting to get them one." He said following the man to the table and looking over the contents of it.
"I'd recommend jade, then." Oliver nodded thoughtfully. There were quite a few jade charms on the table, carved out into different designs and decorated with red string and complicated knots. "The circle is classic, but other shapes work just as well... the Chinese zodiac sign for this year is the horse, if you wanted to go more personal." One of the charms is, in fact, carved into a simplified horse.
Charlie looked over the charms and after a minute or so of consideration picked up the horse. "I'll take this one then. How much does it cost?"
Oliver checks the price chart by the table. "Fourteen pounds. Are you looking for anything else?"
"Do you sell gift bags?" It asked. From experience it knew that some shops similar to this one sold these.
"We do." Oliver nodded, motiining it over to the register. There's a couple options there, of different sizes. The designs are simple, but tasteful. "They're a pound each."
It chose one that would fit the charm. It was now fairly certain that the man was an avatar or at least on the way of becoming one. But it decided to keep its mouth shut, in case man would react badly if the man was of the type to attack other avatars. "That will be all." It said.
"That'll be fifteen pounds." There was a heavy aura around Oliver, and his tired eyes made it apparent he hadn't been sleeping very well. He moved to the register, putting the sale information in. The sign behind him advertised cheap tarot readings.
Charlie took out money to pay when he noticed the sign. He didn't believe in tarot, or fate, but he thought it would be harmless at worst and interesting at best. "How much for the reading?" He asked
"It's seven pounds for a Past/Present/Future reading." Oliver hummed, looking over his shoulder. "Are you interested?"
"Yes please." Charlie said.
"Perfect." Oliver added the price to the other two. "Your total is twenty two pounds." Once Charlie paid, Oliver took him behind a red curtain. The room on the other side was decorated in a way that could only be described as vaguely witchy, and held a table covered in a thick purple tablecloth with several chairs around it. "Sit down, please. Have you ever gotten a reading before?"
Charlie sat down on one of the chairs. "No. Never. How will it look?"

So now the young man was sitting in the cafe drinking hot chocolate and watching the doors.
As he waits a odd looking man in a long leather coat walks in, he has a black turtleneck on as well as a considerable amount a piercings along with poorly died black hair, but the two most definitive features the man sports are the odd eye tattoos on each joint and the burn scars that seem to cover all his skin except his face and around those eye tattoos.
As he enters his hands seem to almost phase into the door before it starts to open, he takes a second to glance around the cafe before spotting Charlie and walking up to his seat
"...Hi, I assume you're the one Marcus told me to talk to?"
"Yes" he answers looking up. "My name's Charlie, what is yours?" The man looked strange but inhuman. If he didn't have experience with fears he would assume he was just a goth that was in a freak accident. He didn't look dangerous but Charlie was intertwined with fears long enough to know looks didn't mean anything "And.. if you don't mind me asking.. are you with the eye?"
He hoped that wasn't the case. He didn't met an eye avatar before, but from what Marcus told him they were a pain in the ass to deal with
"Nah, I'd guess I'm closer to the End now more than anything but I've tried my best to not become an Avatar of any sort"
He sits down onto the the other side of the booth and almost starts to fall into it before righting himself and swearing lightly
"I'm Gerard, Gerard Keay, though depending on how this goes I might let you call me Gerry, now how much do you know about the... powers that dwell within our universe?"
"It's nice to meet you Gerald." Charlie said. "I am aware that there are fourteen fears, their names and what they mean." Charlie took a sip of its hot chocolate. "I know that sometimes avatars of one fear form groups and that most prominent for vast are Fairchilds. That's all."
"...Ah, have you heard of the Magnus Institute, the Lukas family or the Church of the Lightless Flame? Those are the main groups you'd want to look out for." Gerard thinks for a moment then sighs "Sorry, I was much more prepared to give a 'there are entities that feed on our fear' talk than one about the prominent avatar groups around the UK" As a waitress walks up to them he orders a plain black coffee "...you're paying, right?"
"I mean I suspected that the institute had something with the Eye and I heard rumors about the desolation cult. But I didn't hear about the Lucas family. Which one do they serve?" Charlie said "And yes. I'll pay. Do you.. do this often? Introduce people into this world?"
"Ah, thanks, I've done it once or twice for in exchange for other things but it just ended up spiraling after I did it once. The Lukas' serve the lonely, maybe you're heard of Peter Lukas and the whole exposé on his apartment buildings made for maximize isolation? Then for the Stranger there's the Circus of the Other, the Desolation as I mentioned has the Cult of the Lightless Flame and the Eye has the Magnus Institute. There's the Fairchilds with the Vast as you know and the Dark has the People's Church of the Divine Host. The Spiral doesn't really have any Avatars working together but there is the Distortion which has taken the forms of at least two people I think."
"Oh. Thanks for explaining." Charlie said. "Uh.. would I encounter any of them if I didn't seek them out?"
When boy was asking the waitress came back with Gerard's order
Gerard ponders this question for a second while attempting to pick up his coffee, after the third time his fingers go straight through the cup he just sighs.
"The main one you'll have to worry about is the Magnus Institute, if you ever have victim escape they might make a statement there, and if the archivist there, Jon Sims, gets interested he might start looking for you to get your own statement. Besides wanting information, the guy's pretty harmless, but don't try to hurt him. For all the others I'd just recommend not taking anyone who's already marked by another Fear."
Gerard's form begins to flicker and he sighs again.
"Looks like my time is running short, any other questions?"
"No. That's all. Thank you for explaining things Gerald. It was.. very educational."

He came over, sitting down across from it. He was dressed in blue too, though his outfit was much more formal. Up close, a thin, pale scar crawling up his cheek was visible. He didn't seem eager to start a conversation, nor to keep eye contact for very long.
It looked at the man, its gaze staying at the scar for few seconds too long. "It's nice to meet you." It spoke as it assumed man wouldn't start the conversation. "My name is Charlie."
The stranger's expression hardened some when he noticed the attention on his scar. "I'm Mike. What did you want?" He asked curtly.
Charlie took a sip of his drink. One of the advantages to meeting in cafes was that he could use drinking to have some time to think over his responses. "To meet other avatars mostly. My friend, the one who set up this meeting, said it would be good for me to have more people who understand my situation to talk to." He thought for a second or two and then added. "I guess he didn't tell you why he wanted you to come here?"
"He didn't. We aren't exactly close, so he's lucky he caught me on a day off." Mike crossed his arms, glancing out of the window. "I was around your age when I Became, but I didn't have anyone to talk to. I guess it would've been nice." He hummed. "Did you want to... know anything?"
"Actually yeah." He said. "Are there any groups or avatars that would have a problem with me serving the vast? Marcus mentioned, ones I should avoid because I'm an avatar but he also mentioned that sometimes people's aggression has less with being not human and more with which fear avatar serves."
Mike raised an eyebrow. "Uh, yeah, anyone serving another power will kinda hate you by default. Hunters will go after anyone, and Buried avatars really dislike us, but it's not like someone from the Desolation won't be out to get you if you get on their radar."
"Noted." It said. "Why is there so much animosity? Like I can understand buried, it's direct opposite, and even Hunt because.. well the Hunt. But why would someone go out of their way to kill someone just because, if they're not of the Hunt?"
"Well, most of them have rituals to do." Mike shrugged. "And if another fear gets a successful ritual first, its followers kinda fucked things up for every other group, no?"
"Rituals are supposed to rewire reality suit one of the fears right?" Charlie said. "But.. what's to say that when one does it, it is done forever. Couldn't other avatars just.. change already changed world? Or a joint ritual. Like.. I dunno. Hunt and slaughter doing one together. They seem close enough that new world could suit both of them." It had some thoughts about rituals since it learned about them and decided it wouldn't hurt to ask.
