Diagon Alley || Katie & Draco
Draco was bored. He hated waiting in lines; he so rarely had to that he had never developed the knack. But he had insisted on shopping for himself this year—at least a little—which meant that shopkeepers didn’t rush out and usher him around the way they did when his parents, especially his father, crossed the threshold into their little stores.
When the line stalled as the girl in front of him demonstrated an inability to count knuts, Draco sighed heavily and rolled his eyes. He paused in mid-grimace however, because in turning he had recognized the previously-ignored witch: Katie Bell. She was a Chaser on the Gryffindor team, which meant that even though they had barely spoken, she was an enemy—or at least a competitor. Since Draco had actual enemies, it seemed silly to designate someone as such just because they flew on opposite Quidditch teams, but whatever Bell was, she was certainly someone whom Draco enjoyed besting.
As she made to slink away from the counter Draco smirked, unable to resist the idea of having a Gryffindor player indebted to him even if it was for something as utterly trivial as a handful of coins. “Here,” he drawled, stepping up to the counter so he could put down his own purchase as well as a glittering cascade of sickles, “ring it up with mine.”
"It’s only sporting for us Hogwarts players to stick together after all, isn’t it?" he observed, preening smugly as he met the witch’s brown eyes.
"You sure?" The cashier asked, and Katie nodded. The whole situation was mortifying! She'd worked over the summer, so it wasn't like she was completely broke, but most of her money was in the bank. At least she'd have more to spend later.
Sighing, the Gryffindor tried to make a clean exit, but she was stopped by a familiar voice. It belonged to none other than Draco Malfoy. "Oh, Draco, it's fine! I mean, I was..." she began, but the cashier had already rung everything up. "Err...Thanks. I owe you one." She shot a smile in his direction, face bright as a summer's day. She didn't know much about the boy, except that he hung out with Hermione Granger, so he couldn't be all bad. Besides, Quidditch players had to stick together!
The cashier coughed (quite rudely, in Katie's opinion), and gestured towards them to get out of the way. "Sorry!" Katie exclaimed, for what seemed to be the hundredth time in the past hour. She headed towards the store's entrance, assuming Draco would follow, before stepping outside. "What did you buy?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.
Grinning at his comment, Katie couldn't help but give Draco a firm nod. "You betcha!" She replied, sticking her hands in her pockets. Though competitive on the pitch, Quidditch players tended to share a certain camaraderie outside of it, and Draco didn't appear to be an exception. "So, what did you over the summer?"
Diagon Alley || Katie & OPEN
It was another bright day in Diagon Alley. Wizards bustled to and fro, haphazardly checking items off of their school lists. Katie grinned, glad to have avoided the pre-Hogwarts rush. She and her dad had visited a few days ago, on Friday, to be exact, so now Katie was just waiting for Angelina and Alicia to arrive.
"Miss?" A voice called, and Katie's head shot towards the register. "You're five knuts short on this purchase."
"Sorry!" Katie exclaimed, smiling sheepishly towards the cashier. She was sure she'd put out enough change, but... Crap. Her pockets were empty. "Um...Actually, it's okay," she began, fumbling with the package. "I'll uh...just buy this another time."
