When she first heard that he was also coming back to Hogwarts she had to admit she was shocked. After everything he had been through over the years Ginny had figured that he would of taken some time to himself. Taken the time he needed to truly heal and figure out where to go from here. But no he had in fact chosen to come back to Hogwarts. She was excited and nervous all at the same time. She was happy that he had chosen to come back but also nervous due to the fact that the two of them had yet to actually sit down and talk about things. To figure things out. To find out where they went from here.
She knew that things couldn’t be put off any longer. The two of them were on the Quidditch team, in the slug club, he was best friends with her brother, they had close friends in common, not to mention that they were in the same house here at Hogwarts. Licking her lips she made her way up the staircases of Hogwarts wondering if he was going to be in the common room. On one hand she hoped he was sitting there but on the other she hoped he wasn’t. She wanted to talk to him… boy did she want to talk to him… but at the same time the nervous butterflies swarmed inside her stomach. Would he want to talk to her? Would he try to run away? She had no idea.
Taking in a deep breath she finally made her way to the Fat Lady sighed, stating the password for the common room she slipped inside the portrait. Glancing around the common room she smiled softly to see him sitting there on one of the couches. Her guess had been right, here he was. All she had to do was open her mouth and say something. Yet there she stood as the silence surrounded her.
Blinking not once but twice she moved closer and tucked her ginger hair behind her ear. “Harry… hi…” two simple words slipped out. They were so quiet on her lips as she stared at him with questioning eyes. “I wanted to talk to you about Quidditch….”
Things between Ginny and Harry had been left very inconclusive. They had broken up. Well, kinda. Harry had tried to break up with her, she understood but still, there was a lack of disconnectedness. They had kissed at the wedding and again when they saw each other at the battle of Hogwarts. During all that time they had still felt together. Something about this summer seemed to change that. Before they had no way of contacting each other, it wasn’t safe. When Voldemort died they were free to be together and yet, they still weren’t.
Harry had stayed at the burrow the first two weeks after the war but things were heavy, different. He told everyone he felt they needed space but the truth was it was Harry who needed it. He needed the silence the Black Manor brought him. Hermione and Ron checked in on him but he made little effort to reach out to anyone. His life had been so constantly changing, always something else to do that the sudden halt left him feeling empty and alone. Harry hadn’t had a moment to deal with his losses and now that he did, he couldn’t seem to dig them out of himself.
Eves lifted under thick brows as the portrait swung open. Guilt had burdened his chest for months, more and more as the weeks went by for not reaching out to her. He should have asked her how she was but something kept telling him to hold back. Ginny was always one to deal with her problems alone. But no matter how much logic he fought it with the guilt one. Now, looking at her, it was heavier than ever.
“Hi.” He breathed out, his mouth opening to say more but she was quicker. Her words made his brows pinch together in the middle. “Oh.” It felt too casual. He had prepared to apologize, for her to open the conversation with talk about how they haven’t spoken. Something about the dismissal of it all set his gut heavy with stones.
“Right, what about it?”
